help tuning port(s) in a clamshell
germandark replied to germandark's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Chuck, have a look-see at mock up three. I almost certain this is what I want to build. -
I have a desired tuning frequency that I want but I will have two ports...I think. The best example I could find is in the Stealth Avalanche build, basically the same idea he did but in a different vehicle and different subs, bit more air space. Here is what it looks like. As you can see, there is a port with a partition in between. So my question is, how do I figure out what to tune too. Do I tune each port to what I want the tuning to be...do I need to do some calculating and figure it out through equations....I could use some help on this subject. Also how does this type of enclosure work since the port is firing directly in front of the subs? I would assume there is some kind of db level gain...

I believe #3 will be my enclosure. I'm going to call my conect. and purchase soon. -
SAX100.4 RCA outputs.... how do they work?
germandark replied to groundpound4200's topic in Sundown Audio
use y-spliters. you will halve your output voltage but will work. or use the outputs on the amp. -

help tuning port(s) in a clamshell

here is mock up #3 it is very much like supergumby's. I followed his advice on taking the subs "out of the port." this gave me less air space but the subs will still be getting enough and each chamber is tuned to 32 hertz with 79in^ of port area. it is more a true clam shell now. I really like this design. again it will all be braced with threaded rod and fiberglass. questions & comments. edit: after doing some other measurements, tuning maybe actually be around 30 hz. anyways its very low 30's -
Elastomeric coating vs. 2 stage paint for inside of box
germandark replied to tahoexfixssd's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
lay resin all over. that will give you a harden surface, and mostly flat. could have some low and high spots. you could spray down with contrasting rattle can paint and then sand till even. and then sand it with high grit. or just leave it with a coat. -

#2 here. 6.73ft cubed each side, 6.93 before guesstimated displacement. 99in^ of port area for each side, total of 198in^ effective port length is 24.5in so Ill just say 24in. tuned to 35 hertz, actually 35 point something. questions & comments? -

Update.\/\/\/ okay here is my pos sketch up # 1 each port has (rounded up) 85in^ of port area. each is tuned to 36 hz. <<<< am I supposed to tune each port to the total desire tuning or what?? each side is 8.125ft cubed. ______ My port area is a bit small, I know. I would glass corners/etc. and use threaded rod for bracing. I was thinking of double baffle for the subs. this is my first mock up...I am not too happy but I will keep on. ALSO I plan on dc level 4 15's -
lowes is never gonig to get the cuts right. they simply don't care. cut it yourself or find a buddy who has the equipment for the job

what made you choose to put a 4.11 in for the rear end? I hope you don't do any high way driving.

wow that must have been teadous work on that port, good craftsmanship though.

Hey everyone I've been trying to mock up an enclosure for my truck in Sketch Up for 'bout a month now. I originally wanted to do 8 DC Sound Labs Level 3 12's. I really like DC audio and I have capabilities to get them at low costs. I wanted to do a 4th order but, I've been doing different designs and punching everything in to a 4th order calculator and using WinISD. I'm sorta stuck with ideas. Here's a rapid share of the usuable airspace and how the box would be shaped...a shell in a sense. mucho grasis, thank you, danke shon! http://rapidshare.com/files/184601903/blan...ge_perfect..skp I wanna stay using DC subs but I can change things around. I have a DD Z1 to power them so with good voltage I have a bit over 5k on tap. my voltage will be sufficient, 300 amp mech man alt, (4) 2400 kinetiks, two runs of 1/0 welding cable to kinetiks -

this was an actual idea in my head. I'm new on here not familar with the members yet, but I'll contact them maybe. a quasi-sixth can be tri-chambered? like each side of the enclosure would be where the subs are and then the center is the area that would port via blow through. -

maybe I should be more specific. I know a good deal about the construction of them...I would like to know if anyone could shed some light to me on how to get my calculations correct and not have crazy high gain from the enclosure so I don't destroy my subs and with a decent bandwidth response from the enclosure. I like my lows, not looking to go all out SPL for competition. I've been tinkering with an s factor of 0.7 and low tuning, but only to have very high gain...
