Would it really? I am thinking along the lines of a 12 and a new Icon would be my first thought. However the Icon I have is in pristine condition and I have no reason to want or need to replace it.My son bought the Icon I have here and get a hell of a deal. I can'[t remember who he bought it from but I know there is a Youtube vid of the original owners car that had 3 tens in it. He took very good care of his equipment. I would not doubt it, Mark and Aaron have doe a lot of changes since the first gen Icon, I would not upgrade unless you had to. I was thinking along the same lines....A company like SSA is always going to find ways to improve. But....What I have works great. If and when I need to upgrade a new Icon will be mine. Understand...the wife isn't crazy about a semi old man like myself still having a fascination with car audio.

I knew someone would ask....I had my mids running off a Usacoustics 4050 bridged in 2 channel mode. I was never really crazy about doing that. If you ever look at an original manual for those amps Mantz dances around telling you how to wire it the right way. Do you y plug channels 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 or 1 and 3 and 2 and 4? Anyway.....The 4050 is now my son's again....And the 2150 is now on my mids.

Great sub...I do have a question though. I bought the sub from my son.....he bought it here. We built a 1.35 cube box tuned to 32 hz according to the reccommended box designs. I have been running it off a Usacoustics USA 2150 bridged rated for 500 watts. Probobly a little more than that......It has sounded incredible. I had the pleasure of recently aquiring an ESX Q275.2. Bridged rating is 800 watts. Am I getting close to the power handling of this sub? I have tried to find specs on the original run of Icons but have had no success.

Thank you...For some reson I couldn't find that.

Solid 300w 2 chan?
ou812 replied to dekciw's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
That is not far from me. Roadtrip Aaron! That is a steal for that! It looks like its in great shape. I sent an email. But I will call tomorrow morning. Me and my problem with ZED A/B amps. Here's another steal. For $100 and maybe just a bad rca I would take the chance. http://athensga.craigslist.org/ele/2814493113.html -

Unless they had a regulated power supply. Which was a lot more common then and yes....I am a huge OS fanboy. -
Are there specs posted anywhere on the site for the afore mentioned OG Blue cap subs? BTW....The 10 I have is kinda strange....It's really hard as all hell to believe how damm good it sounds with 500 watts.
-
Yeah...Uh...I didn't notice that.
-
It looks like my sub in that pic.
-
What part are you referring to? It looks good to me. Maybe I'm missing something? Have you tested it? Does it work ok? Just being nosy...How much are you getting it for? Great amp btw....
-
I have been watching that as well. It would make a great tweet amp.

they don't come up for sale very often. and when they do they usually command a huge price....considering when mantz was clearing out his old stock he was selling them for $139...I believe he even resorted to buy one get one free.
-
Gorgeous....What do you have the 2300 running? I imagine one of those would make my Icon really thump. Not sure if I or anyone else has ever posted this here but it gives you an idea how underrated these amps are. http://amp-performance.de/619-US-Acoustics-USA2200.html

You might have better luck at DIY. Beautiful hu btw.
-
I agree with everything stated above. Mantz has his own theory on fusing that most others don't agree with. And they certainly do over rated power.

I bought an SSA Icon 10 from my son a while back. My son is SQJEEP here. We got around to building the box for it. We used the box design in the tech section. Fantastic box design....We built it exactly to the design and holy shit this thing pounds. We did the 1.35 cubes. It's not finished yet but here are some pics. It's running off a Zed built Usacoustics USA 2150 bridged and rated at 500 watts. Please note....The panel sticking up in the back is the amp rack and it is going to be replaced. It's the old one and it's just in there temporarily. I realized after mounting the box that I should have done a spacer underneath it and on top to allow more area for the trim panel. I just have a router...No tabel no nothing. After I cut the shape for the sub hole ( Guess that's what you would call it) I only had about 3/4 or maybe an inch to guide the router along.....I kinda tipped the router off a bit. I have a feeling I am gonna rip this apart and do it again....I focus on mistakes. Thanks for the compliments guys...I got some more done today. I recut the amp panel and covered it in vinyl. Keep in mind....After this the next thing is a panel to cover the amps and hide the wire and distro mess. I am considering cutting kinda windows to show the amps and doing plexi. I have never done that ....I think it would look kinda cool but then I would have to do fans. Anyone have experience with them? I can assume there's not a whole lot involved.
-
Sorry guys...Almost forgot to give an update. The son and I got some vinyl work done....Ok ....SQjeep did the vinyl and I watched basically. I will be the first to admit that the vinyl magnifies the mistakes I made routing the mdf.
-
Yes it's an old school with the blue lettering. Let me see....We bought vinyl to cover everything with. That might take some time. System rundown is....Eclipse cd8454 running 3 way active. tweets are Alpine ring dome running off a Zed built Usacoustics USA 2100. Mids are Image Dynamics OEM running off a USA 4050 bridged to 160 watts. And the Sub on a USA 2150 bridged to 500 watts. All those ratings are rather conservative. It amazes me that a sub tuned so low...Basically sq oriented would be so loud off this amp. That is how the amps are mounted now minus the passive crossovers. That whole thing will be redone.
