ok, double check my math... if i'm using a pair of 12" pr with an sd of 480cm^2, my effective radius (combined) is 10". this relates to a 20" diameter port, (or two 10" ones, length is 175.75 per that way) in a 2ft^3 box means a 351.5" long port for a tuning of 34hz. converted to volume and then to weight, that means roughly 433g divided between the prs. each pr has a mms of 200g, so i would need to add 16.5g to each pr for a rough start? btw, the pr part number i'm looking at is SD315 at partsexpress..... and does 2ft^3@34 with ~475wrms sound ok to you mark? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

R = (Sd/PI)^0.5 i need a little help with this one... if sd of each radiator is 480cm^2, what is the effective radius of a pair of them? i get 153, but i'm sure that's wrong. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i thank you sir! after reading that page, i guess i picked a good sub, lol. with a qts of .27 it fits right in the recommended range for a pr. so, to get this to layman's terms... i design a ported enclosure for the maw12.. i then do the equations to determine what the two prs "effective"port radius would be i then get the length of port, and figure out it's volume do the math and convert volume to weight and that's what i need the prs to weigh. and simple test is to send sine waves at the pr in the otherwise empty encloure to dtermine if it's tuned correctly that sound about right? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

what happens if the port isn't perfect?
mrray13 replied to king alpha's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
yes, most ported enclosures (install dependant) will peak 7-11cycles above tuning. hardcore spl people aim for the peak of the box and car to match so that the sub is doing very little work while the box/port is doing the majority. what you saw though is typical of a "daily driver" wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -
dual 1s can be wired for 1 ohm, .25ohm and if series/series, 4 ohm. if your for sure upgrading amps in the future, grab the d2s so you're set. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

if your looking at a pair of dual voice coil 4ohm subs, that means you need to look for an amp that's 1 at 1ohm stable, 1 at 4 ohm stable or 2 at 2ohm stable. with those three options, there are plenty of mono block amps available that are 1 ohm stable, and the last two are found on most all two channel amps. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Nah this guy hadn't bid at all, then he put in his bid at 1 second left. which is cool I guess he still put in a higher price then I put in which is all really wanted to spend so it wasn't like he cheated, just been bidding hard on these mother lovers and can't catch a break. Sounds like he had a program bidding for him... I snipe like crazy, but call me old fashioned, it's just un-gentlemanly to have a computer do a person's job is there any other way to bid? lol....though like you, i do the sniping personally. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
oh, i will. it'll be a 12" pr (price is only $27) and a sonotube, maybe "V" shaped. i've got lots of thoughts going through my head. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i vote you sell them to jim...he has the proper vehicle for the subs.... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

mounting the amp on an angle won't hurt it, neither will mounting it to plastic/carpet. like johncon mentioned, all i would worry about is overheating, but if ran correctly, that shouldn't be a problem. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
