no wall...lol... the solo x performs quite well in about 5.7cubes...with 2.5kw+ or power...all the ppl claiming u need 5kw+ to extract full potential are full of crap! for daily driving , and i know this for a fact, 1500 is more then enough. that's correct, 1500wrms is more then enough to make the 18" solo x sing!! how do i know? the 18" solo x i had in my truck (for all of 24 hours) is now in a 2002(i think) durango...in my box (5.7ft^3, 70in^2 of port tuned to ~37hz) being pushed by a memphis m1500d....it's louder then two 15" memphis m3 mojo 15's in 7ft^3, about the same port area, tuned about 34hz. it(the solo) also plays lower and is almost as tight. yeah, the m3's win the sq part, but not by much. oh yeah..it's seems louder in his truck off 1.5kw then it was in mine off 2.5kw+...i hate suv's..lol what does this mean? by virtue of the solo sounding so sweet in the durango and Garrett apologizing for being a crybaby about it, i'm not angry about the raw deal quite as much. scott and i still need to work out an acceptable reimbursement for the enclosure as i feel as though 24hrs definitely isn't enough to determine if i liked the x. os once that is settled..lol... in the end, all i need is about 11ft^3 net for two 18's.....hopefully i can get that without a wall...lol...we shall see. and like i said, i have no idea when this is going to happen...it could be 6 months from now and it could be as early as next week!..lol... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

What wire you use?
mrray13 replied to o42o's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
i use 10g for most big stuff...8 gauge is pushing it. the 18 solo x has a neat terminal setup that allows 8 gauge pretty easy. but for everyday drivers, 12 gauge is more then enough. also, a certain team will tell ya that u don't gain anything with bigger speaker wire as they have even used 4 gauge. score didn't change, so they went back to 10 gauge. they will tell ya that more runs from the battery back with the biggest wire u can shove thru ur vehicle will result in gaining tenths on the meter. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -
get this..and this is awesome.. my wife is going to let me buy two, that's right two, 18" solo x's...i also get to buy either another orion 2500d or two memphis mojos or lightning audio 2000d or a 4kw off a friend. also allotted in this budget is a new altenator, a new yellow top and a couple of xstatic 800 battcaps... hehe...have no idea when this will happen....hopefully next month sometime... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

didn't say u started a war...lol.. and, at least around here, discussions like this can happen without a flame war starting. like i said above, if u've had great success with eD, awesome. i didn't. ben, IMO, is/was about money. maybe that's changed, i don't know. i just know what i experienced a few years ago. as to the comparision, if someone can get both subs, then it will happen. till then just speculation. and until then.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

he's only pushing 1500wrms, so i doubt he'll hurt it. also, he got the box as well, as they had no other box for the solo. they wanted me to run the 10 solo agaon, but after a few hours building the 18 box i really wanted to run it more then just overnight. i dunno, i heading to the shower and then to the shop. scott wants to talk to me..lol...we'll see what he has to offer. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

13.98" is the cutout listed at soundsplinters website...lol click here and then click on the enclosure recommendations for ur sub..lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

2ft^3 sealed with just 500wrms should be perfect for ur sub. how are ur gains set? u could be clipping the heck outa it. i'm running a 12" rl-p in 1.25ft^3 sealed off 750wrms, and have run it ported in as much as 2.5ft^3 with 1200wrms. that has been the only time i've felt i've pushed it too far. the rl-p will tell ya when ur clipping it however.as setting the gains in the sealed box off 750wrms has taught me. which leads me to believe that ur expecting too much outa ur amp and hence have got the gains cranked, the sub control on ur h/u cranked, loud on or what ever. i'd recommend switching to another amp. something in the 750-1000 watt range. u'll be able to get the volume outa the sub ur wanting without having to send it a clipped signal. otherwise, look into making sure ur box is sealed all the way around. and yes, the subs performance will change trunk lid open vs closed. so it does indeed make a difference. however, i don't believe that's ur problem.. i think ur having amp issues as the rl-p will handle well over 500wrms in the proper enclosure. i've had my rl-p going on a year, almost always running 750wrms, other times, it's been 1200wrms. no issues, no problems. check back and let us know. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

thing u gotta remember si that icix was started by ben milne, the owner of eD. ok, that notwithstanding...he said his compareo was with only subs changed....but he points out that he changed front stage and also had each setup wired differently. different power levels. and all he compared was eD subs.... so, with that said....i believe the rl-p will hold it's own against ANY sub with 1kwrms of power , ported or sealed. and i've ran it directly against an re xxx(same boxes, same power, same vehicles) and prefer it to any other sub i've ever owned for sql. but if someone wants to send me an eD to play with, i'd gladly start throwin power at it!! lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

ok jordan... the sealed box was bigger then re recommended and the ported box was exactly what re recommended...i didn't use enough power..remember? it needs all 1600wrms to get low regardless of box..lol.... ryan...infinity..blah..lol..only old people or people who don't turn it up like infinity. otherwise they go blat, not boom..lol.. bastages... i should've drawn funny faces in ryan's box....lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:slayer:

i think the 12 spoke offers better cooling as well... jack...any decisions on ho wur going to h/t the sub? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

well...my day went from bad to worse.. first, as most of u know, i got laid off again... then i go to the shop and they sold the box outa the salesman's durango. guess what he wants in his truck? yep, the 18" solo x, which has sat in the showroom for about 3 years until i built a box. now it sits in his durango because he basicly cried until i gave it up. crybaby.... oh well, i'm supposed to get it back, but i'm not for sure i even want it..though it did sound pretty damn good and got stupid freakin loud!!! so what u think? take it back when he gets a new box built? or just do something different? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
ryan, yep, again! oh well..lol.. y don't u like ur fipk? nothing special on ebay..looking for a nice rollaround toolbox so i can get my tools organized instead of having them in 6 different boxes..lol and not much wh0ring this morning, running behind.. so off to work i go!! nick..i own three special posts...lol... i>j0o!!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

and if pushed with their "rated" power, tend to fail quite often, both speakers and subs. i bet i've installed and then replaced 5 sets of speakers and subs, all pushed with rms or lower and all have failed. most were replaced with memphis pr series stuff, all of it still going strong! so there..neeneerneeneerneeneer!! but Ton remember this..my experience with them isn't going to be the sames as everyone else's..one will see nothing but bad, while one will see nothing but good. that's why it's up to you to decide. and nick and mike are indeed stand up guys! david from re is. wellllll, just don't say his subs aren't perfect and you'll get along just fine. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

ok..time for ebay...lol... i'll be back!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
