not !!! just a ripple in the overwellming Tusnami of SQ guys with additudes bashing the SPL guys... the i.e. i was reffering to is every thread for the last 2 yrs ! anyone posting i have a Killer quad sub setup getts hacked down by the Sq crowd while i don't fully disagree with what you are trying to point out, i think you are going a bit overboard. every thread the last two years? comeon, it has gone both ways. i can point out name calling on both sides. and with both sides starting it. people are going to argue over terminology, definitions of loud and or quality and everything in between. and that is always going to cause friction. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

LB, if this is the thread that started this thread, http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...=15960&st=0 , please point out where anyone is calling down on people for their POV? i do see one mention of turning it down, but that was responded too in the appropiate manner for the situation. i honestly see good advice being given by the sq snobs in this particular situation. and pretty much exactly what the OP is searching for. so, what gives? yes, some members of this forum stick to a higher standard, but that doesn't make them snobs. can they change the way they reply? sure they could. but is it really going to make their answers any different? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Is a single ICON 12 ported to the optimal specs loud?
mrray13 replied to bmr4life's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
while you're pondering jim's question as to what your definition of loud is, let me tell you that my single 12, with 1100wrms in just about 2cubes at 34hz did a mid 130 legal on a tl in my xcab silverado. downfiring box with a single 4" port. in short, the potential is there. the box and vehicle will finish the puzzle, and either add or subtract from the final answer. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -
i went with the kumho escta ast, so far so good. road noise coming home was nil, ride quality over the runflats was 250% better and handling hasn't seemed to suffer, though i haven't pushed it yet. one otehr thing, price was great, i got the tires for free. seems the factory 17" wheels have an extra tall safety bead, probably due to running the runflats. in anycase, the tire guy was a no0b, having never dealt with a runflat or a mini. i watched him work on the last tire and in the process of trying to get the new tire over the bead, he was using a metal prybar. i watched as it slipped twice and nicked up the rim. i then looked at the three finished rims, all three had nicks. the owner/manager is a friend and coworker of the wife's. we went to him about it and he offered us two solutions. we pay for the tires and get new wheels or we get free tires and they wet sand the rims to attempt to fix them. i was for new wheels and pay for the tires, but the wife went with the free tires. and they did a decent job of touching up the wheels as well. in any case, regardless of how the tires last, we can't beat them for the money, lol! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

did a little research on the 1 series (i won't call it an M). seems all you get for ~29k is 230hp, a manual, leatherette interior and it's a coupe or convertible only. still, it's teh 6 cylinder from the m3, teh 300hp version is turbo'd and just over 30k. while i probably won't buy one, i'm still going to look at one. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
ok, i get ya, and fully agree. but you gotta admit, especially for a bmw, starting under 30k and 300hp? pretty good deal if ya ask me. even if it is sacrilege and has to sport a manual. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

have you removed the rear speakers and associated trim? if no, that will free up some room. (i'm assuming this is a newer ranger) youhave one of the worst standard cab trucks to try and get loud in, without a blowthrough. simply no room. if removing the rear speakers and such is no option, a monster 8 might work. definitely enough room to port that. also, you'll need to watch the depth if you need any kind of leg room. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

why? i'm no bmw guy, so i curious. teh commercial kinda caught my eye. and we have a bmw dealership about an hour south. and we'll be in st.louis saturday getting kicks on teh cooper, might swing by a dealership while there. my m-i-l has a mk vIII, and she gets about 25 or so on the highway. topend is good, but it sucks at the stoplight. i don't feel it has any headroom either adn find myself hitting recline to get any type of headroom, though legroom it has in spades. overall, i like the idea of an older cruiser though. maybe find an imp ss like tom's? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i know you said you didn't want new and take the big hit, bu ti just saw a commercial for the new bmw m1, starts under 30k and is 300hp. bieng bmw, it'll hold it's value, should get very respectable gas mileage and it's a bmw, lol. did i mention it has 300hp? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

? this is in an xcab silverado right? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

wow, let's not make this a LB hate-fest. everyone's ears are different and sq is subjective. disagreeing is fine, but it is just his opinion. again, i'll say this, as far as subs goes, teh w6 is far and away, IMHO, the best driver jl makes. ported, sealed, doesn't matter. they get loud, will play low and handle transitions with ease. however, at their pricepoint, when compared to some 'net brands, they are easily overpriced when compared to similiar subs, like the ICON. that does bring up a good point, most internet subs are held in such high regard that they are usually compared to subs that mainstreme companies have in a different league. like the rl-p vs w7. to be honest, the rl-p isn't even soundsplinter's best sub, the rl-s is. but early on, before the rl-s and even i was guilty of this, teh rl-p would get compared to the w7. and it could hold it's own. but to be honest, that's not completely fair to either driver. but again, even when one compares something like the LMS driven rl-s, it overshadows the jl woofers because of where it's from as much as it does from it's performance. i think having an unknown woofer is like having an exotic car. it just puts you in an whole other league and you save money to boot. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

anyway, ryan1, pics of the belle are up. i'm out for awhile..another gun show today, early easter dinner with family and checkup on the grandfather. though he was having congestive heart failure friday, got lucky. nothing serious, mostly bad diet and some fluid in his lungs. at 88, he's lived a long life, but it's just not his time yet. he's gotta see his great grandson (and his pride and joy) graduate from high school in 4 years. anyway.... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Have you heard a W6v2 in a sealed enclosure versus that T4? I have read some really nice reviews of the W6s. They seem a bit pricey though. Are there other drivers out there that can compare to the W6 in terms of SQ without the hefty price tag? My old Audiomobile Mass2012 was the best sounding sub I personally have evr heard....well kinda...it seemed to have a lot of mechanical noise..but in a trunk it sounded outstanding in cabin. 1. there are better Subs with better Sq @ 1/2 the price of the JL/Tommy Hillfigure rich boy toy... 2. if you read magizine articals about a product it is usually written by the manufacturer, usually.. not at all Bias... 3. DD / Bring it on ill put my SS subs against any and all takers, they out preformed DigitalDesign 9515's in the same box with 1/2 the power the DD subs did 153.3db with 2 IA 40.1 amps in the same box the SoundStream T4 subs did a 154.6db w/ only 1 IA 40.1 with only 1 battery... i say beat me in the lane then talk smack. 2 weeks ago i used 1 M3mojoMaxx quad coil and did a 151.7db the guy with 4 DD 9515 subs did a 151.5db & he had 4 batterys & bigger amps... in the local world of spl you play in, teh SS subs might be something. no offense, but go play in dbdrag and see how far you get. those numbers you're posting regularly get beat with one amp, a pair of tens and one battery with car off. and god forbid you step into street c, where those numbers won't even get you into eliminations. until SS can step up (sundown is indeed proving themselves though) and play with the big dogs...... agian, no disrespect intended. but in the bigger picture, SS just isn't all that. neither is memphis and their mojos. their product quality has gone downhill in the last three years. back to the OP, i think neil summed it up pretty good. and again, thanks for cleaning up my mess, lol. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

that's my bad for misrepresenting info. for whatever reason, stupidity or alcohol or both, i was thinking teh tc9 and other drivers were indeed underhung. my apologies and thanks for cleaning up my mess. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

yes i did. and customer service sucks for the price you pay. kimber's are great shooters, of that there is no doubt. but kimber will never see another dollar of mine. j, what model, do you remember? for about $650 one can get a taurus or springfield and for not much more a s&w. not too mention sig is making a 1911 now and the countless custom shops. i went to a gun show today. picked up some ammo and a rangefinder. nothing else grabbed me. though i just inquired about a 4" s&w 629 pre-lock. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

no, but something a bit better, lol. and it's still a few hours away. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
