the white MB prawns the chit out of the H2 piece of chit the truth is, the H2 is a fairly capable vehicle. alot more so then it's tahoe/yukon brethern upon which it is based. while not as capable as the 'mog, among soccer mom suv's, it is the king. range rover's highend stuff and teh big lexus are it's only true competition. and they are the queens, due to the fact they look like every other suv on the planet. wiat, can't forget the porshe or volkswagon. the vw will probably be the new king. the TD powerplant is badass. way better then the turbo gas motor of the porshe. TD torque FTW!!! as to the mog, the H1 owns it. no other vehicle on the plant can tranverse hills the way the H1 does. or the steepness. and with the, (crap, i forget what they are called) gear reduction axles, independent of each other, the H1 is truely a torque monster has well. with the duramax in one, wow!! but i will take NOTHING away from the mog. it's one badass piece of machinery. i'd own one in a minute, second only to the H1 Alpha. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

but that would imply that some work be done. not just some simple sealed, rectangular enclosure. and here in america, that just can't be thought of. only the easy way out please. but your right. a little fiberglass and blam! totally cool, custom install! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

x2. but only if proper airspace can be achieved. in a standard cab silverado, a pair of ported tens is usually the way to go. but since you already have the 12's and mike isn't makeing rl-p 10's....... i'm a chevy guy, but this is where dodge boys own us. we've actually put a pair of 15's sealed behind the seat of a standard cab dodge. if only we had that room... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

we just did a toyota highlander with that crap. pulled everything out. put boston acoustics up front, memphis in the rear doors and memphis for the sub stage (sealed of course). used an infinty reference 4 channel for the highs and a memphis m class for the subs. night and day difference. only thing left factory was the head unit/touch screen/dvd/ navigation thing. best factory system i've heard to date? the harmon kardon (spl?) system in a mini cooper. it rocked! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

for a typical "custom" box, ie: one built to fit the car and sub specs, runs $100 for sealed and $150 for ported at the shop. that includes carpet. this includes wedge boxes and rectangular boxes, all mdf. some will be 1/2", some will be 3/4", depending upon application. those are the prices i use when i build for people, except those would be a two sub box. single sub, i drop each one down about $25. the truth of the matter is, it's your labor. if the person won't/ can't build their own enclosure, then they need to pay for it. simple economics. i don't see/ feel like the prices i listed are too much, especially when you consider the quality of the enclosure. if people feel your charging too much, then they can go elsewhere. my time is valuable, as is my skill. if they don't want to pay for it, cool, someone else will. and in most cases, i'd wager that someone will end up with a better product then the one who won't pay. but that's just me. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

what new truck? i missed something..lol.. l8rs ryan wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i'd still wager that if you run the 6-700wrms port noise will be minimal, if at all existant with the 4" aero (especially if it's f;ared on both ends). run full power and then i'd suggest a second 4". wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

T.O.P. yep, that spells top! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

What size enclosure and power? Lower power, you'll be fine. I was thinking 2ft^3 gross and prob 6-700W. You'll need more vent area. bah....one twelve, one 4" aeroport. unless he goes mucho power, i'd bet he'll be fine. unless he listens to the port right next to his head..... yada, yada, yada wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

here's some pics of the 1971 impala install i'm working on (in between all the other stuff..lol) first the car... now the box build up. it's bandpass. roughly 2ft^3 sealed and 2.75ft^3 ported, two 2" x 14" ports 11" long. rough bandpass figures are 35hz thru 95hz or so. honestly have no clue, it's for a 15" treo ss, and it's my first bandpass build for anything other then flat out spl. my home away from home... the brace and parts..... and the build up...the sealed part is "stepped" to get the need volume... pretty much finished the box...here's a side shot and a look inside the beast. i'll take some more as the install progresses... yeah, it's alot of pics, but what the hey?! you guys are worth it..lol... i have about 10 hours in that box so far, with design and build time. it's a pain in the ass, but it sure looks good..lol....i hope it sounds good. btw, the ports will fire up thru the little 90* notch in the top right of the box in that side pic. i'll have pics of those later. enjoy...and comments/ questions are welcome. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

lol at elias....i didn't think my 3434 was all that hard to figure out. steve, you will have package on the way tomorrow!! justin....i can see the vids just fine. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

nope, not yet, but it's worth a shot. and a ported single 8 should be plenty of loud..lol but i wonder if a 12 sealed would work in the tailgate. the only issue would be the added weight on the struts that keep the gate open. but i shall look. let me know if you do it first..lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

that would be $20k well spent! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i understand what you are saying with the first statement, but that is what the specs of the amp shows, its an audiobahn so....... lastly, i read on some guys reveiw of a sub that he had his system wired at some shop and when he looked at it, it was wired to 4 ohms. so he re-wired it to 2 ohms and it hit a lot harder.........i dont think they guy knows what he was talking about.........but is that even possible? also, does wiring subs to 2 ohms cause for more of a draw on your battery and stuff, compared to 4 ohms? like make your headlights flash more and stuff? basiclly what i'm saying is this.... if an amp is rated 200 wrms x 2 @ 2ohm, and 400wrms x1 @ 4ohm..you will be getting the exact same power outa the amp. 200+ 200 = 400. when you take a two channel amp and bridge it, you combine both channels to make one channel. when you do this, you have to add the rated impedence of both channels together, 2 ohm stereo stable means 4 ohm mono stable. as to the review, that all depends upon what amp he had. if he had a mono block amp that was 2 ohm stable and the shop at it wired to be getting 4 ohm, then yeah, what he said would be true as he is now getting full power out of the amp. in most cases 400wrms @ 4ohm is better on your car then 400wrms @ 2ohm. it takes less current to create the same power. but it's amp dependant. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

if showcar shows up thursday like he said, and hopefully he's in his imp ss, i'll snap some pics of his wheels. they tuck nicely (i believe 19" upfront, 20" in the rear) and the rears carry huge meats..like 305's. it is the sweetness!! i will do my best! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
steveo..i'll do my best bro!! elias..i think so..lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
ok, first of all...200 x 2 @ 2ohms = 400 x 1 @ 4ohms. you amp will put out the exact same power bridged or stereo if using the proper impedence. second...subs aren't "stable" to any impedence. subs are what determines the impedence you show the amp. when you purchase your sub(s), this is what you'll need to look for. single sub will need to be either a quad 1, dual 2, dual 8 or single 4 ohm voice coil driver. those will give you the proper impedence to show your amp. if you get two subs, they will need to be quad 2 or dual 4 ohm voice coil drivers. these can be wired to show your amp the proper impedence as well. third..i've never seen a dual 8 or quad 2 vc sub, but i imagine they exist...lol fourth..one 12 ported should run with two 10's sealed. but no prefab box is set up for sql. most (like 99%) are tuned at 40-45hz. you will need to have a box built to fully realize a good sql setup. and lastly, i'll agree with jim. get the pair of tens. only, port them. tuned low, a ported pair of tens will kick you in the chest and still wang like a mofo. as to owhich tens...budget. if the type r's are more of your budget, get them. they aren't bad subs. but if you can afford the rl-i's, get them. loud and low with awesome customer support. honestly, don't skimp on the enclosure. that's what will make or break any sub you buy. regardless of brand. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Memphis vs UsAmps
mrray13 replied to JoeHemi57's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
why the need for seperate power supplies? i'd mention the mc3004 as flakko mentioned the 1600.4, but i'm curious as too the above. nothing wrong with either amp, but i'm partial to memphis. though i wouldn't hesitate to own another USAmp product. this is a tossup. are you going to be buying online? not sure about USAmps online policy and warranty, but with memphis, if bought online, there is no warranty. otherwise it's 4 years. just something else to consider. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -
nice! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

throw between 750-1000wrms at it..and man, that'll be sick!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
rli FTW!!!! not even a question. look at the service so far. that's worth more then anything in my book (assuming you've already talked to mike, otherwise i'll extract the foot from my mouth...lol) which in anycase, RE, IMO, can't hold mike's jockstrap when it comes to customer service/courtesy. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

yeah, well...my 18 is field replaceable!! and currently the cone is seperated..lol....well, not anymore, we epoxied it. hopefully it'll hold until the dual 2 cone comes in. then the 18 will have a kicker 2500.1 on each coil...currently has a memphis mc4000d on it wired @ .5ohm...though with the cone breaking, it'll get rewired to 2 ohm...he's a chickenshit...lol.... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
mirror image of my thoughts exactly...lol.... and 80..thanks man. the chambers are like 2ft^3 sealed and 2.5ft^3 ported, or somewhere along them lines...was kinda hard doing the math. but under the 600wrms, the thing gets low enough the owner is way more then happy. which is a good thing, that box was a PIA!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

would be an awesome idea for the wife's TB, but the factory amp is in that freakin quarter. looks sweet as hell though bro! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
