Testing an amp?
mrray13 replied to Bayt's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
without a power supply in home, in car is the only way to test. even i fwiring isn't in car, it's not hard to rig something up. also, if a friend has a system that is easily reached, use his/her car. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -

Enclosure finish... anyone know what this is?
mrray13 replied to Audio Junkies's topic in Home Audio
I didn't say it looked good. I said it looked the same as the day I built them. That's a big difference. I think they are hideous. Green marble to match the green logo on the woofer. It's a 3 way design using an Annihilator 10" woofer (Earthquake's cheaper brand), a Pyramid 2" dome mid and Pyramind 1" dome tweeter. This was back when I was just starting to build speakers so I used a textbook crossover with 2nd order slopes. The enclosure is ported and tuned to about 35 hz. It would make a great dorm speaker because it rocks. Not a bit of sound quality. lol, my bad. but i'd still like to see 'em. we are truly suckers for pics around here. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -
blowing up stuff for a top!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

my son's friends were over last night as i cleaned out the garage some. so, before tossing a few subs, i decided to blow them up (all had cones/surrounds that were torn). man, you should've seen those kids. especially when i sent the first memphis pr to it's grave. scared one kid right off the sidewalk, lol! here's the break down... 15" kicker L7 @ 8ohm..wouldn't die. wired for 2 ohm, it lasted 1:45 (minutes, seconds) i'm impressed! 15" memphis pr @ 2ohm and up firing lasted :45. again, i'm impressed! 15" memphis pr @ 2ohm and cone down on the sidewalk lasted :32. impressed again! 15" jlw0@ 4ohm went pfft. maybe :05. there's quality for ya right there. lasted as long as a jensen 10 i smoked last summer. one kid called his mom and asked if he could stay over as "Damon's dad is blowing up speakers! it's loud and he's plugging them into the wall. it's cool!" so, i'm sure i'm some kinda town psycho now, lol. was fun. need to do it again. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

oops, my bad, lol. i was thinking a meter was roughly a yard, but instead of going 1:1, i went 1:3, as in feet. it was early this morning, cut me some slack, lol. 82 feet then, or 27 yards, shouldn't be too hard to qualify fairly high. it's not like the goverment is asking for sub MOA groups, are they? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

How to determine amplifier output
mrray13 replied to tejcurrent's topic in Technical Info & How To's
again, nice catch helo, lol. damn, i suck at this. and i second helo. fixed load testing is great for paper, but real world, where it's relevent, it's just not accurate. using the actual load with the actual power source will give the real world numbers the OP wants. a car will hardly ever duplicate a test bench. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -
HBD big man! enjoy and stay safe!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Enclosure finish... anyone know what this is?
mrray13 replied to Audio Junkies's topic in Home Audio
that poor mag12, lol. it's gotta be feeling a bit inferior. robert, any pics of said 15 year old speakers? be cool to see something that old looking that good. great links too, btw. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -
those berettas are nice, but no where a favorite gun of mine. but accurate enough for goverment use. lol good luck jordan! 40/40 @ ~ 75yards with a pistol like that is going to be hard, not impossible, but definitely a task. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

How to determine amplifier output
mrray13 replied to tejcurrent's topic in Technical Info & How To's
one could do it with sine or music. and yeah, it's accuracy won't be precise, but it's a daily application. and the stuff your used to messing with is beyond any normal person. maybe the whole idea is pointless, but for someone who just has to know, roughly, what's going on, it's accurate enough. and then you aren't dealing with some manufacturers "wishful thinking" ratings. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -
kicker cvts. the 10's are 4 3/16 deep, but come with a metal plate and gasket so one can gain even more clearance behind the motor. they don't require massive boxes, handle 400wrms easily and get low. they are accurate as well. i have 4 of them in the silverado. i have messed with three shallow mounts, clarion, pioneer and kicker. and it isn't even close. kicker hands down. another option, kicker ssmb 8s. yeah, they are designed as midbasses, but they will drop to 30hz. and they are shallow as hell. i happen to have a pair of the rmb8s NIB, sitting on my office floor. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

chevy's rock!lol, at least mine does. we just finished an install in a 1973 'cuda, dressed to look like a 68. the owner claims 500hp outa the 383, yet it feels like 250. and yep, i gassed the hell outa it, from 10mph, all i got was a little chirp. well, today the 'cuda comes in, seems the gains are a bit high. after we get the gains reset, and his clock set, he proceeds to do a mini burnout. not to be outdone, i light up the silverado. standing burnout, in reverse standing burnout and then a parking lot long burnout. (i think my tires are finally fully rounded, lol). denton (owner of the 'cuda) suddenly has things to do, lol. while i'm in no way saying i could beat him at a strip, i just wanted to show him that burnouts don't take 500hp. and his car doesn't make 500, not on a good day. my truck pulls harder. hehe, trucks are fun! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

lol, not quite matt. one male, samson, will be studded out only. he's double registered, and none of my females are. so that kinda cheapens the breeding. now, my other two males, magnum (primary) and felony (full brothers, different litters) will eventually be double registered, but will breed in the yard with cora and queenie, who are only adba registered. samson might eventually get a female of his own, if the right double registered bitch comes along. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

many subs out there that can handle that power, and at a good price point as well. the si bm, ss rl-p, fi q and even the mach maw, email a few of our manufacturers and check them out. of the two, in a sealed box, i'd take the L7. not bashing the 8500, it might even sound better, but i'd go kicker every time between those two. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeee

we want more pics!! nice deal though.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

to barnie... in reality, pit bulls are breed to be very human friendly. why? due to the fact that they are used as fighting dogs, handlers don't want bit when they have to seperate a pair. it's not in the dog's nature to be aggressive towards humans, but rather it is to be towards other animals. due to this, it's not hard to turn one onto humans, especially since pits really want nothing more then to please their owners. in the right hands, a person can't ask for a better dog. they are even making it into police/rescue work as they will work to their death to do as their master asks. it is owners, not dogs, that create the issues with pits. like all things, the occasional bad apple does happen. but for the most part, pits are some of the most loyal, loving and protective dogs one can own. yes, i'm biased. tonight, i pick up another male. owned by a cop, and a brother to my primary male, he is only letting him go due to the fact he's becoming a K9 officer and he can't own any other animals. my kennel will have three breeding males, two breeding females, and one non-breeding male. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

those look sweet!! and if you don't finish the trunk in a similar manner, we will hunt you down and takes all your sound quality!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

the rl-i8 would be an awesome choice, and only requires a .17ft^3 sealed enclosure. if money is no object, the 5.25 focal subs would be cherry. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
