built it a little big but 3.5 cubes for each chamber and tuned the cone side chamber to 50 hz and the rear to 30hz using pvc ports but i doubt thts spot on because for the rear chamber i had to use elbows so i took the average of the inside and outside lengths and hoped for the best

hey thanks to bolth of you and i think ive got it figured out but i have a bunch of 6 in pipe but tht wouldnt give me enough port area but two 6 in pipe runs would be plenty so could i use 8.6 in a calculator as the equivilant of two 6in runs since they have the same port area

best 1500 rms amp for the money
mikee72 replied to loondizie52's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
i use a soundstream trx 2000d and love it and though its puting out about 2000 at one ohm at 2 its puting out around 1500rms. -
dont no what i was thinking but got it figured out after i posted it but what if you have to use two smaller diameter pipes that roughly equal out to what you had speced out but the pipes arent the same diameterdo you just make each one half the length of the original like a 7x30 inch port on a 3.3 cube box would tune it to 30 hz so could i use a 4 in and 6 in and make them bolth 15 inches long

i forgot the price but i think it was like 30 a gallon could be wrong though and i will most likely be using secound skin for the actual deadening

hi all went up to a local truck shop the other day and found a demo for a truck liner which consisted of a few pamphlets and a coke can covered in bed liner, well a friend of mine and i started playing with this can and soon enough we were breaking a sweat trying to crush it. then later that night i was watching my truck as the fi q 18 i had in the bed played and i saw how much everything was flexing so i was wondering if i coated the inside of my truck with the bed liner if it would save me from running into a problem like iamanmp3pimp (sorry if i butchered the Sn )had with his roof flexing till it cracked. thanks
-
yea but ive never seen them in person before and tht can was a great demo and this would be more than deadening because it would also help kill the flex since im gona have plenty of it coming from 2 ia dp 21s

whats the difference in 1/2" and 3/4" mdf
mikee72 replied to lilwhteranger's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Well you should predrill all of your holes anyway. And the screws really only need to hold for the first few hours, because after that the dried glue is what holds the box together. When I USED to use screws, I always predrilled holes. ALWAYS ALWAYS. However, I've found that a Titebond3 glue joint is more than sufficient. i always pre drill my holes any way regardless of the thickness of the wood but what i was saying was that when you have to drill a hole nearly as large as the screw itself you lose alot of holding power while with a thicker piece of wood to screw into you dont have to make the hole quite as large because the wood is less likely to split. and i dont like just using glue the screws are kindof an extra security for me The glue is stronger than the wood itself idk just like the extra insurance and never really tested it but i think one 1 1/2 wood screw is rated to hold 50 lbs so if you have ten screws on thts 500 lbs -

3/4 inch is also much easier to work with because 1/2 inch will try to split on you if you put any sort of screw in it. you can use 1/2 in but then youve got to predrill all of your holes to almost the same size as the screw and then you lose holding power. just go with the 3/4 because its only like a 5$ difference per sheet. also what type of box are you building and for what sub? -
an external port might be able to save you some space if you do it right

i personally love my 18 q and btw with the bp power option the rated power handling is up at 1500wrms but you can safely push 2000 to them as i did without any problems. also i had mine in an 11 cube box tuned to 27 hz and was hitting low 140s on music. and weather u get the 12 or 15 you will be verry happy with it a friend of mine has a 12 q in a center consoul box thats 3 cubes tuned to 33hz and the thing is amazingly loud for its size and available power. he even gets a fair amount of door flex

hi all i was just looking at a cabin gain chart and saw that most vehicles had about 25 db of gain at 25 hz but at 30 hz dropped to about 20 dbs of gain so that got me wondering if i would be better off tuning my box to 25 hz than to 30 hz because of this gain. JW. also does anyone have or know where i can find a cabin gain chart on an 01 tacoma single cab because the chart i have doesnt so i used a dakota instead thanks mike

im thinkin now 2 IA DP21s with a trx 2000d to eachin about 20 to 25 cubes tuned to 30hz
