February 20th MECA SQ Show @ Autorama Sacramento
SoCalSQ posted a topic in Competitions & Other Organized SPL/SQ Events
This will be the first MECA show in California. I have decided to promote MECA shows this year instead of IASCA. Please stop by the MECA website: http://www.mecacaraudio.com/ The rule books are FREE! (Imagine that) Just print them out. I will be running the So Cal shows and Aubrey Carter will be handling the Nor Cal shows. Jeff and Andy from World Champions and World Class Judges Test Your Boom™ will be doing SPL at the events that allow us to have SPL. The website for the Autorama show is : RodShows.com - The Longest Running Indoor Car Shows in the World! The entry fee for this show is : $30 The show will begin at : 10am and run until judging is finished. We will be offering all classes of MECA SQ You can pre-register by contacting me ( Todd Woodworth ) at : [email protected] or by phone at (909) 816-2640 The entry fee includes entry to the show. Normal entry is $18 ea. and parking is $10 for the "normal" people attending the show so you can do the math really quick and realize you're getting a $28 value plus competing in the MECA show for $30, which is a hell of a deal. I'd like to thank Fred Lynch and Arc Audio for helping to make this a possibility. Their continued support of sound quality in the automobile has made many of the SQ shows on the west coast possible. This will be an awesome event and a great way to kick off the 2010 season in Cali for MECA. I know many of you from my shows last year. You can expect bigger and better shows this year. We will be incorporating SPL at the shows at any venue that will let us. In addition, I expect much more industry support this year, as well. See you there -Todd -
After much thought I have decided to do MECA shows instead of IASCA shows this year. The rules can be found at http://www.mecacaroudio.com I have made this decision for many reasons, but the main ones are: 1.) A fair class structure for SQ 2.) Better manufacturer support 3.) Fair yet simple scoring system that allows for "best of show" I encourage any of you who will be at CES to stop by the MECA booth and talk to Steve about MECA. We are holding a judge training Friday night Jan 8th after CES, beginning at 6:30pm and running late that night. I still have 3 spots open for that training session. I will provide the location when you register. In addition, we are also holding a training Friday,February 12th in Modesto, Ca. this will take place at: Beebe Racing Enterprise's 4866 Salida Blvd Salida, CA 95368 This training will be followed by Mark Eldridge's SQ seminar, which will occur on Saturday and Sunday at the same venue. I do still have 10 openings for this training. You must register for the seminar SEPARATELY with Mark, if you wish to attend. We have made arrangements with the Hampton Inn, located within walkign distance from the training. If you call them and tell them you are with the "Mobile Soundstage Engineering" group you will receive a room rate of $84 a night. Hotel info: 4921 Sisk Road Salida, ca 95368 (209) 543-3650 The MECA judge training is priced as follows: -Training alone (includes judge shirt) $50 -Training plus membership (includes judge shirt) $75 -Training plus membership and CD (includes judge shirt) $100 You must contact me in advance to sign up for the training. Pre-registration is required, but payment may be made the day of the event. Contact information: Todd Woodworth - California MECA Promoter Phone: (909) 816-2640 Email: [email protected]

IASCA West Coast Regionals Oct 24th in Riverside, CA
SoCalSQ posted a topic in Competitions & Other Organized SPL/SQ Events
Because of the huge amount of interest in SQ IASCA has decided to hold a Western US Regional event. The show will be held at Audio Shoppe in Riverside Ca. Registration will be from 8am-10am. The registration Fee will be $80.00 for one class and $140 for two classes. Because this is a Regional event PEOPLE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO REGISTER LATE. I have been very lenient with late registrations this year and I know you guys are used to this, but for this event, I will not be making any exceptions. This is a money event and we need to adhere strictly to the rules. So BE ON TIME please. We are starting judging early because there will be a lot of cars there and I know noone wants to be there until 8pm. If you would like to pre-register you can do so by emailing me at [email protected]. I will send payment instructions, and a confirmation email once I have received payment. We are holding the Competitor meeting at 10;00 am. Judging will start immediately following the meeting. We will be using judging lanes. Once your car is in the lanes it is considered ready to compete. There will be 4 judges at the event. Two of the judges will be from the west and two will be from the east. YOU DO NOT NEED ANY AMOUNT OF POINTS TO ATTEND REGIONALS. Finishing in the top 3 in any class at regionals will automatically qualify you for a spot at finals regardless of how many points you have. Winners of FIRST PLACE at regionals in each class will split the Prize money pot. They will also be crowned West Coast Champion and will have an opportunity to be the US champion. The prize money pot will consist of the following: The gate fees from the event minus expenses Money contributed by manufacturers Money contributed from other sponsors The prize pot will be spilt evenly between all the 1st place finishers. As we get closer to the event and I have a better idea of the exact amount, I will be posting here to keep you up to date as to what the pot is at. WEST COAST COMPETITORS- IASCA is standing up and taking notice of us for the first time in a long time. It is imperative that we show up in force with some badass cars and make a good showing to let the organization know we are here and we are serious about competing. I have been pushing hard to get finals moved to a more central location that will not preclude us from attending. If we SHOW UP and compete here it will make my fight alot easier. Finals this year have already been scheduled in Florida and because of commitments/deposits it will stay there this year, but my aim is to make Regionals so big that they are forced to take notice of us and move it to somewhere central, such as Oklahoma. If anyone needs any kind of help especially on the INSTALLATION scoring please feel free to contact me. I will be happy to answer any questions you have an even meet up with you to help you to be prepared. Remember we will be going "by the book" here. This means: Make sure you have pictures of EVERYTHING that is hidden (wiring, head unit mounting, speaker terminations, firewall penetration, deadening, box/enclosure construction, hidden components, etc.) Make an upgrade list that you will hand to the judge at the end of your presentation (as per the rulebook) I WILL HELP YOU PUT THIS TOGETHER if you contact me. Upgrade scoring is a very important part of winning in the SQi classes. I will probably make a separate post specifically about upgrades. Practice your presentation. make sure it is thorough and covers all the aspects of your system. make sure you cover eash area(engine compartment, interior, trunk/hatch area) Make sure you use as much of the alloted time as you can without going over. Going over is a good way to lose points. TALK TO PEOPLE. I will help ANYONE who contacts me to make sure they have a thorough understanding of the rules. Most of the judges and many of the seasoned competitors also have good info for you. If you didn't do the installation make sure to talk to your installer so you thoroughly understand your system. -Todd Woodworth IASCA West Coast Director (909) 816-2640 [email protected] -

use one crossover. set it at the slope you want. you'll never match them up correctly unless you spend a lot of time with an RTA a 24 Db slope is plenty, i almost never go over 12 except on sub/midbass

I just received a phone call from Matt Borgardt at ID. Due to the fact that he is seriously ill, we will be unable to have the IASCA event on Jan 24th. The event will be rescheduled for some time in April. The next IASCA show will be February 15th at Beach Autosound in Huntington Beach, Ca. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause any of you. Please try to spread the word so we don't have people driving in from out of town to show up at an empty parking lot. -Todd Woodworth

If I can get enough interest I will be doing an IASCA judge training April 11th and 12th in Santa Rosa. I need to get judges up there before I can have a good amount of shows. If any of you are interested in attending a judge training in Santa Rosa please email me at [email protected]. The training is $100 for both days. It includes a full year of membership in IASCA (which is normally $60). Even if you just want to compete the judge training is a great way to get a full understanding of the IASCA rules. When you consider that you get the membership it boils down to $40 for 2 days of SQ instruction. Schedule is: April 11th 9am-5pm -IASCA philosophy -IASCA classes and rules -SQ definitions -Listening -Judging etiquette April 12th 9am- 1pm -Using an RTA -IASCA judge test -Practice judging cars I need to get 10 people to commit to go before I can officially schedule the event to cover the costs of the trainer's flight, accomodations, and training fee as well as course materials.

I believe the cost of the heat sink on the gladius is about $25, which does account for 10% (with burr browns) of the cost. Recent improvements in technology and improvements in design account for the ability to produce amps cheaper but at the same quality. The point of the post however wasn't to talk down the new series, it was to try to find support for Steve to produce an amp he has already designed, but isn't going to make because people bitch about price. I am sure the the new amps will be every bit as good as the older series, if not better. When you have a person like Steve who basically makes amps as a public service (because trust me he DOESN'T make a profit and if he does its usually under 20% of manufacturing costs, which doesnt include his overheads) and refuses to have distributors and car audio shops selling his stuff to avoid a 400% mark-up, it just amazes me that anyone can complain about receiving one of the best made amps available made and designed by a legend in the car audio industry whose designs have consistently been top notch. I hope some folks can voice support for the 4x100. I can tell you, I'd pay in advance.

I spoke with Steve about what kind of amps he will be making in the future. I am frankly amazed that the #1 complaint from customers about the Old Zeds was price. I mean come on ! I have 2 Gladius, a Deuce, and a Minilith running a 4 way Dynaudio setup fed from the alpine F1 head and processor. It sounds absolutely incredible. My $1200 worth of amps clearly blow away amps from other manufacturers whose product costs 2-5 times a much. I will not mention names but I compared other amps with his with the same head and speakers and the Zeds outperformed or hung with all the high dollar brands. I sent one of his Gladius amps into Car Audio Magazine to be reviewed and the tester said "this is one of the best amps I have ever tested, not to mention one of the least expensive" Unfortunately then didn't get a chance to run the review before tehy folded, but I am hoping they will run it once their online mag gets rolling. Steve has gone with a new design that tried to keep costs and size to a minimum to meet what he feels is the consumer demand. But this isn't what I am after. I honestly care less about cost (to a degree of course) and space than how my music sounds. He has also told me of a design for a 4x100 amp that cuts no corners and is an all out bad ass amp in the $600 range. He has chosen NOT to manufacture it becuse of customers complaining about costs. For those of you who complain about teh cost of his amps take a look at say a 4x100 Zapco competition amp's MSRP and get back to me. I don't know about the rest of you, but I would be first in line to pay $600 for this amp. When you look at what's on the market, its sad. The amps are either Chineese junk or overpriced American/Eurpean stuff. Lets show some support for the no holds barred 4x100 and see if we can't get the design off the drawing board and into production.

Also remember you may have to double the hardener if its cold. On a hot ( 90 degrees) day you can add about half of the hardener. On a cold (40-50 degrees) day you may end up having to double the hardener to get it to set in a reasonable time. I learned this the hard way doing some fiberglass in the winter time. Not that we really have winter in Cali, but it was about 50 degrees and the cure time was about 8x as long as in the summer.
