    Shin splints.....

so i have been working out for the past 2 months, 3 days a week, for about an hour. sometimes i switch up my routine, but for the most part i will do 30 minutes of cardio, and 30 minutes of weights. i have tried running on the treadmill and on the track and i still get shin splints. i do calf raises everyday as well. i am 5'6" 230 lbs, so im definitely overweight, so i know that has something to do with it, but also, i would think it would improve at least a little bit by now. is there anything i can do to prevent these shin splints from running? i have tried to get on a diet, and i have cut back on my portions and i try to have a small healthy snack every few hours, rather than eating 3 big meals, but i just cannot get motivated enough to stick to it. i work out on the road, and the guys i work with all eat fast food everyday, so it is very tough to bring a lunch and eat by myself while they eat fast food. any advice / suggestions?
  2. I'm not sure if this is in the correct forum or not, because this isn't quite as technical as the other topics I searched through, but hopefully this one will do. I've got a friend from work who's son has an amp that is not working. I don't know a whole lot about amp repair, but I know how to check diodes, transistors, and simple stuff with a meter (no oscilloscope at my disposal unfortunately), so I am just taking a look at it for him. I dont have a whole lot of description about what the amp is doing, but from what he tells me, the amp will come on, won't go into protect or anything, but the subs will pop and them hum continuously. The first thing that came to my mind is RCA plugs or a ground problem, but he had another smaller amp that he put in and it works fine. Just from this information, is it possible to have any idea of whats going on, aside from a grounding problem (which I can't check since I don't have the car)? could this be a MOSFET or a transistor something like that, or would I just be wasting my time with checking those? All of the solders look solid and nothing is burnt, except a spot on the board around a jumper connected to ground, but this guy tried to solder it in himself so it looks like maybe it was rosin or flux. I realize that isn't much information so I don't expect much back, but if someone can point me in any direction that would be great. Thanks
  3. hey fellas, i recently bought a new car, a 1999 olds 88 ls. its a grandpa car, i know, but thats ok, cuz i like it. now i like keeping the stock look for now, and dont have a lot of time/money/energy to put into the stereo right now. the stock system is ok for now, but i would like to upgrade the speakers for a little more clarity, midbass, and maybe the ability to turn it up a little louder with a little less distortion (though i realize this is probably also because of the stock cd player.) im wanting just some low-mid level upgrades for front and rear speakers. front speakers will probably come first. first question, is this even going to be worth it, if im not adding any amplification or an aftermarket head unit? if you answered yes or even maybe to this question, continue to question 2. second question, what are some suggestions? i dont want to go component because i dont want to have to cut any holes for the tweeter or run wires or anything. i did look at the elemental designs e3.65i system, because i can put the tweeter on top of the mid, and still have the crossover, but i dont know if it will still fit behind my door panel. anyways, any suggestions are appreciated. thanks

Stock HU, worth a speaker upgrade?

so im reviving this thread, i may need to make a new topic in the general forum but im lookin for some opinions. i thought it over some more and now im getting the itch to put a complete (or at least somewhat complete) setup in. so i've decided that i want to do one 8" sub, and i want to amp the door speakers. i still plan to go with coaxials as i do not want to cut into any panels to mount the tweeters. i still want to stick with the stock HU as well. i plan to get new door speakers first, then shoot for the LOC then the amp and sub. are there any recommendations for door speakers first off? secondly, i've never used an LOC, so i dont know the in's and out's of them. are there some equalizer functions on them, or do i have to use the plain ole' bass and treble settings on the stock HU. any other hints/tips/recommendations on them? thanks for talking me into spending more money fellas

Stock HU, worth a speaker upgrade?

yea, no doubt that is true, and that is in my future plans, but for now i just need to stick with some coaxials and no amp. if i had some more time and energy i probably would, but for now i just need a plug and go thing.

Stock HU, worth a speaker upgrade?

My budget is around $75, mayyyyybe $100 if i can get a better speaker for a little more than $75. that is per pair of speakers of course. also, i have shopped at crutchfield before but never bought anything from them. how accurate are their measurements on whether the speaker fits in the car or not? am i able to rely on those measurments?
  7. been shopping for an upright bike to have at home and just do home workouts from now on. i got some resistance bands and i actually like them a lot, they do a great job. I plan on buying more stuff but its a work in progress on my budget. Anyway, i need to buy a bike for now, I need some cardio, and running just isn't for me. I've got about $300 to spend, but it would be great if i could keep it lower than that. Im looking at a few bikes, between the $200 and $300 range and I was wondering if there were any recommendations. I want a quality product, but i have read some reviews on each bike and no matter what the price, they all seem to be about equal. Here they are: Proform 450 UR Upright Reebok 365TR Upright Golds Gym Power 210 Upright NordicTrack AudioRider U 300 any input would be helpful thanks

    Shopping for an Upright Bike

alright, so i have found a used bike, but i dont know which is better. i can get a 4 year old schwinn airdyne for $75 (price seems a little low, i have yet to see the bike, the lady has no way to get pics on her computer), or i can go with probably the golds gym bike. The thing i dont like about the schwinn is that it is loud and also i live in a second floor apartment and im sure they are heavy. is it worth it?

    Shopping for an Upright Bike

yea i was hoping i could find a good used one, but so far the only thing i have found is a schwinn airdyne, which i like them a lot, but the lady never got back to me on it. hopefully sooner or later i can find a used one..
  10. So, almost two months ago, i bought a brand new Dell PC. I recently got a job after graduating college, so i figured i'd get a good one (for what i use it for, im not into gaming), since for the first time in my life, i had the money to spend. I got 4 Gb of RAM, the new Intel Quad Core processor, 500 Gb Hard drive, Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers, etc... the total cost was a little over $1300. Until two weeks ago, i did not have internet, so i didnt really use the computer, just dicked around since it was new. Once i got the internet, i used the regular ole' Internet Explorer, and at least once, each time i used the internet, it would lock up and i would have to literally hold the power button to re-boot. This got annoying very quickly, so i thought maybe it was IE, so i downloaded firefox, thinking this was my problem, and yet it still does it! granted, i will have iTunes going, and i will usually have 2 - 4 tabs up, but they are nothing major. usually facebook, ssa, maybe crutchfield, but nothing full of flash and taking a lot of bandwith and memory to run them, and i would think that i should have absolutely no problem at all running this. When it locks up, my music will keep playing fine, and act like firefox locked up, but when i hit Ctrl + Alt + Del, the monitor goes into power save (it auto detects an input) and my music locks up too, and makes that horrible noise. am i really overloading the computer, or is this some kind of problem?? p.s. please, no comments about how i shouldn't have bought a dell or any biases. i have been happy with Dell's products and they work fine for what i need them for.
  11. im not sure where to post this, but it should work so im looking into buyin a new car (new to me) and i found an awesome deal on a 2002 Mercury Sable. i looked at the stock radio and it looks to have the climate controls embedded into the same panel. anybody have any experience with a sable?? do they make a mounting/install kit for an aftermarket head unit?
  12. bobby_7

    Aftermarket audio in a sable?

where abouts would i find one? i have google and looked thru car audio sites, but i can only find ones for the earlier models... EDIT: the first time i looked on crutchfield, nothing came up, but now this thing comes up, and the description sounds like it would fit, but when you put in your vehicle, it says it does not fit.. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Ite...=3486&avf=N

    wanting film camera

yea it is starting to look like it may get into more money than i want it to. im not exactly the richest yet. i will give it some time and maybe buy a good one on down the road.

    wanting film camera

so yea, i've been wanting a film camera, because i think you can get some astounding pictures with them, and i love playing with shutter speeds. only problem is, i dont know what to look for, and also, i dont want to spend much at all. i know i wont use it enough to justify putting some cash into one, im just wanting it to take a few cool shots when im bored. any advice on what kind of camera to look for? i dont care if it is old as hell and looks the same, as long as it works.

    Shin splints.....

i think it is a combination of a weight issue, my form and stride, and just not having ran for quite some time, so maybe i will just stick to the bike or elliptical til i can get rid of some of my belly. thanks for the info though

    wanting film camera

while $469 is out of my price range, it may also be a worthwhile investment, as i could use it for a long time and still get some great photos. and while i realize that its not about megapixels (necessarily), i definitely do not want to see pixelation (sp?)(even a word?) in my photos, as that is what i love about film. i have no experience with a digital SLR camera, so would that be an issue? EDIT: found a few AE-1's and some F2's on eBay for about $100, here are some links AE-1's: http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-AE-1-Program-Cam...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-AE-1-Film-Camera...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-AE-1-Program-w-5...1QQcmdZViewItem F2: http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-Nikkormat-FT2-35...1QQcmdZViewItem F3: http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-F3-35mm-SLR-Came...1QQcmdZViewItem

    Shin splints.....

i think i have some insoles layin around my apartment if i can find them. i have some new balance shoes and they are very comfortable to me. granted they were only like $40 when i bought them, but they should be ok for what i use them for. my shin splints, when i get them, i can quit running, and switch to weights and they will go away within like 20 or 30 minutes and feel fine the rest of the day. should i still ice them post workout even if they dont hurt? i would just slow down my pace and keep running while i have these shin splints, but sometimes they are really painful, and i have also heard that when you get them, you should stop running, as it could cause further damage. is that true?
  18. yea it was in my car when i bought it. i was trying to salvage the thing so that when i sell this car, i have something to put back into it, but im considering just destroying the thing to get my cd out. who knows.
  19. so when i put my latest head unit into my car, i left a cd in my old unit, and i have been trying to get it out. i have a power supply that i plan to hook up to it, but i can't figure out where to hook my wires up to, so i need a diagram to find out where to hook my positive and negative leads....any one know where i can get a diagram? the unit is a Clarion ProAudio DRX6375. i googled and eBay'd and all i found was a picture of the diagram but the seller on eBay made it microscopic because he only wanted buyers looking at it.
  20. i may do that, the unit is 10 years old so i didnt know if they would still have that stuff. anyway, hooking the power to the rem was the last thing i tried, so either way, everything i've done to it hasnt worked, but yea, i may have fried the board. oh well, just a good reason to tear the damn thing apart and get it out.
  21. well i tried your way and that didnt work either so i guess im stuck unless i want to buy a connector.
  22. well thank you for actually understandin what i need, first off. anyway, i ended up taking the case off and looking at the circuit board and it was marked which pin was gnd., then there was another that said acc., one that said batt., and another than said rem. i hooked my ground to gnd, then put 12 volts on batt and 5 volts on acc, and rem. i woulda thought that would turn it on, but it didnt. lastly, the setup you gave me, with the ground being on the bottom right and what not, that doesnt match up to how it is on the circuit board, but i will try it anyway.
  23. no, i need to know where the power and ground are on the unit itself, i dont have the wiring harness that hooks from the stock harness to the unit.

I need help picking a car!

true, it just bugs me when its idling and it rattles my seat and the steering wheel.

I need help picking a car!

so i am no longer able to afford my 2003 dodge neon, so its time to sell that and get something cheaper well i am between 2 cars right now, one is a 1999 ford ranger with 144k and nothing extra. no carpet, vinyl bench seats, 5spd, thats about it. the other car is a 1997 ford contour, GL i believe, has power everything, auto, and here's the shocker, it has 244k.... well first off, i am only getting this car to last me about 2 years, until i graduate college, so it needs to be able to last that long.. the contour has pretty much everything new except internals, it has a new battery, new tires, new alternator, new water pump, new radiator and hoses, used transmission with 80k miles on it, pretty much all the major components except for internals. all the miles are highway driven, as the owner has a job about 50 miles from here, so it was driving 100 miles per day, and thats it, they have another car for stuff around town. i know the owner, so they are good for their word. i guess my question is, does the contour just have too many miles, or do you think it could last a few more years? i like the truck, but i am afraid of being very unhappy with the ranger because it is so plain, rubber floor, vinyl bench seat, crank windows, 5 spd. i just can't decide..
