I know that the enclosure is one of the more important items in an audio system, but wouldn't some woffers hadle the lower end better than others. I understand that enclosure is important but so is your choice of equipment. Thats the information that am trying to get, what equipment is better for a low end application.

Welcome. They are great subs man ive heard them in person, and they can get loud as a mudda f#&$er. But let us know what you want from your system. SPL? SQ? Will this setup be for daily uses or comp? How much space you working with? What are you looking to spend? Have you upgraded your electrical system? What size woofers are you planning on using? Just an idea of what you want and am sure other members would gladly help you out.

I guess ill just take it to an auto shop. Thanks a lot.

DD Audio, Audioque, and DC Sound Lab also make great products. Since you have the money, and willing to look around, I think these companies may also be good options. Not to take anything away from your current choice. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the input guys

I've seem guys use a spray to coat the exteria of their enclosures instead of using carpet. I dont know if its bedliner or texture spray which may be the same or not. Am asking because i dont know what it is. I was just wanting to know what it is and how much i will need. Thanks

I posted under another topic but calculated the wrong numbers so here is the updated version. The other post topic is misleading so that is why i posted a second time. This should answer any questions of why i posted another topic. I apologize Admin. This link shows the design outline: http://s883.photobuc...re.jpg#comments Here are the numbers: Wedge Enclosure Width: 43" Height: 27" Top Depth: 8" Bottom Depth: 20" Total Volume: 7.885 cb.ft. Port (32Hz) Internal: 20.0"H X 4.0"W X 24"L External: 20.75"H X 4.75"W X 24"L Port Displacement: 1.3689 cu.ft. Woofer Displacement: 0.38 cu.ft. (2 Fi Q 15s) Bracing Displacement: 0.1255 cu.ft. Net Volume: 7.885 - 1.3689 - 0.38 - 0.1255 = 6.0106 cb.ft. Will this design work for 2 15 Fi Q's? If not, can anyone give me some enclosure ideas? Thanks in advance for your response.

Hey nice build dude. Where did you get the spray that you finished the box with? That looks real good man.
-
ok thanks guys.
-
Ok, the manufacture says to use 12-16 sq.in of port per cb.ft of volume. What i was asking was how would i calculate that?
-
I have a question. How do you calculate the port area if your using multiple round ports since its recommended that 12-16 sq.in be used per cb.ft?
-
I've decided to go with PVC ports which will give me more box volume.
-
Nope. Thats all the space that I have. Am planning on putting my amp and battery on one side of the enclosure and i think that i maybe pusing it just a lil bit with the current dimensions. If i used an external port, 7" would be the full length that i could extend it. The enclosure is going behind the seats of a 2000 Dodge Dakota Ext. cab so its kinda tight. Do you have any other design ideas that i might be able to use??
-
Shit, I wish. lol. But since I already have the 2 15s which is more cone area, I was just trying to see what would be the best setup for those. Havent heard a 18" sub yet those. I have owned subs from 8" to 15" but have not yet seen a 18" sub in person. Sucks I know. My aim for this setup is to get that LOW ground pounding bass that i heard the Q is famous for. The seal enclosure that I had them in got low but not like Ive heard ppl talking about throughout the forum. That is why I want to go with a ported enclosure. Am wanting to see if I can produce that low end bass. Am not really worried about the high end as much.
-
I agree with you both, but these are the max dimensions that I currently have. I maybe able to squeez an inch more in height but thats it. Would it just be better if i used these dimensions for a sealed enclosure? Would I be able to notice the difference in output if I used the seal instead of the ported?

Have deminsions need some ideas
wof131s replied to Lifted07Duramax's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Whats the net volume that you have after all displacement? What is your freqency range? -
You will have to extend the port length to get a lower frequency or make the box alittle smaller with the same port length which i dought you would want to do. Bigger box produces a better lower end
-
Had some miss calculations, will post recalculation later.
-
Lets say you have a 6.0 cu.ft. box and you have woofer displacement of .38 cu.ft. Now you have a net volume of 5.62 cu.ft. before port displacement. How do you know how to calculate the port length if you dont know the exact box size since port displacement have to be considered. I know how to calculate port displacement but i am not sure about calulating port length with a changing box volume as the port size vary. Can someone help me understand how this is done please. I know to some of you this is a dumb question but am just looking for some help and wanting to understand how its done and not mess up any more designs. Looked through the forum but couldnt find the info i needed. Thanks in advance for any help.

I hope that am in the right section for this post, if not, am sorry admin. I have been trying to post a drawing up so that i could get some feedback on it with no luck. Can someone steer me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for the help.
