    its a disease

Just face it, we love to hear music played how it should be, and like to push the envelope when it comes to acoustics I have been playing around with stereos forever it seems, chit, the first time I smoked an amp was when I was 10 haha. Audio happened to also push me into the direction of my career. I knew what I wanted to do in life when I was 15... I can thank this disease for turning me into what I am today

    10 guage wire

Skin effect happens only in higher frequency voltages. Even 60Hz voltage does not see the skin effect. Wire is wire...

    pretty bummed...

Your problem could be two things: 1) You need to do the Big 3, 2nd gen Neons have notoriously bad grounds. 2) You are clipping the amp, causing excessive current draw, and the amp to shutdown. SRT-4's have big alternators compared to the rest of the Neon platform, something like 120-140A.

    Ported for 12" Rlp

Of course you can The port acts the same in the box or outside of it.

    Ported for 12" Rlp

Why not port to the cabin? Not enough space for the port to fit? You do have the space between the box and the rear deck, and well as the height of the box to fit the port...
  22. Here is what to do: If they are amp powered: Disconnect the RCA's from the amp... Noise still there? It is the amp ground that needs to be fixed, or a speaker wire is bad.. If the noise disappears, then you need to fix the HU ground, or have bad RCA's. If the speakers are deck powered, then only a cpl things could be wrong, speaker cables, or HU ground.

    Ported for 12" Rlp

OR... nearest size to that. And yes, aeroports need to be longer... ~ 1" longer.

    Ported for 12" Rlp

Yes, you are correct about the 2-18" ports. I would personally go with the single 4.5" port.
