Sure... in test equipment, price does mean better. I wouldn't want to use a $30 DMM when checking voltages on the equipment that makes sure that your plane is lined up on the runway! But... for what you are using it for, it does what it needs to do.

MDF is MUCH stronger than PB. You will not have any issues with flex with 3/4" MDF in the size of enclosure, and power level you are using.
