  1. I just changed my old PG Tantrum 1200.1 (great amp by the way) for a JBL GTO 14001 and I gained about 3 dbs! I'm driving a JL 13W7. So I think It really does rated power. How did you measure the 3db gain? Audio Control RTA So about a 1.5dB gain in real life then. Well maybe but you can feel the difference.
  2. I used to have a VW Golf and I had a JBL BP 1200.1 (1200rms) pushing a pioneer TS -121SPL and had almost no dimming. Both cars have simmilar electrical systems if not the same so I think you should check your alt and/or battery.

How many more dbs using internal bracing?

Those types of braces I've never seen being used, are those as efficient?
  5. Ok, guys I have a ported enclosure with a 13W7, It hasn't been braced... How much more spl do you think I could gain if I braced it? I'm using 3/4" MDF and I'm driving it with a JBL GTO 14001.

Bout 1000 USD. I've been hearing a lot from those BTL's. Are they any good? I mean I don't recognize the brand... Yes, Fi car audio makes good sub woofers. I have heard nothing but good things from them. Also it would have costed about half of what you paid for that W7 to get a fully loaded BTL. Hey, do you have any pics or links of those subs?

There are not too many good sub brands back in my country, unless you like Audiobahn, Fusion, Kenwood... Well Kicker's a good brand but anyways I love my 13W7 and yes it was expensive as hell!

    Amp question

Really interesting... Both amps have the same crossovers and boosts the only difference is power.

    From: Amp question

Thanks for that info man! So it I have 2 amps a RF 200.2 and a 225.2 ( The old punches, the first makes about 400 watts and the latter about 450). Do you think it would be ok to hook them up each at a voice coil of a dual voice coil sub?

    Amp question

This is 100% a myth. The outputs never have to be matched when running seperate coils with seperate channels or seperate amps. Either way you want to do this is fine. Could you comment more about that? I'm no expert but have been researching on these topics for years...

    Amp question

Be careful if connecting each voice coil separately as the amplifiers outputs have to be exactly matched or else you might damage your speaker. You're better off driving the sub at 4 ohms bridged.

  19. Yes it will! And it actually is underrated, it produces about 1700 watts rms with the apropiate voltage and load.
  20. Had a similar problem a while ago.... One of the things you should check are the connections to your battery. If you have bad connections anywhere in your car it could cause a problem with cables heating up. Another thing you should check are fuses, specially your amplifier fuses, they should be as the manufacturer recommended (the right amperage). Check your ground wires, make sure your ground is a good one (stripped of paint). Also you should check if the burning smell comes from the back of your HU. Do you have any other equipment connected, like Capacitors?
  21. Do any of you guys know what's the maximum unclipped output voltage for a PG tantrum 1200.1 at 3 ohms?
  22. Do any of you guys know if I would get a greater spl using the JBL 14001? I was also thinking of the JL 1000/1. A bit pricy though....
  23. Hey guy don't know if you've heard anything about the JBL GTO 1400.1 amp. I was thinking of changing my older PG Tantrum for it. I'm currently driving a JL 13w7 with the PG but I think it's not putting out the wattage it says it does, I mean the fuse rating is only 80 amps compared to the JBL 160 amps. What do you think?
  24. You know, I was actually thinking of using it for driving two JL 18 W3 with my home theater....
  25. According to the birthsheet of the amp It's about 67% efficient and the wattage goes to about 1500 but at 14.24 volts. Do you know anything about the new JBL amps? I previously owned a BP 1200.1 and it rocked!
