Hey guys, I finnaly found the Powerbass forums I have herd so much about! I have been a PBX Dealer for some time, when I first started AJ (who is here on the forums) was my sales rep.....& one hell of a nice guy. We have been competing with PBX very heavily over the last 2 years & absolutly love the stuff. I have been convincing poeple on the car sound & performance forums to try powerbass for a long time, & I am glad to say it was about the 3rd most popular sub at the 04 USACi world finals! My team is the loudest in northen CA, so if any1 wants to E-mail me to get a 2nd opinion with SPL setups (after 1st ofcoarse talking with the folks at pbx) feel free!....my E-mail is always open lol.

they are both starsound amps. the 1200D is the old 3000D with is the Startsound SSA7000D & the ASA2000.1 is the starsound 6000D...& is the same amp as the Hifonics brutus & the VFL150

go for an XA2150, you will love the headroom, & the clarity. the ASA400 might leave you wanting more. the ASA line of amps seems like Interfire/power acoustik/lightning audio the XA line I would pit against JL/ARC BUT the bigger ones have more power than either of those lines have to offer. -
eeehhh.....I dunno about that 2/3 volumne thing. we just toasted a set breaking them in like that. I went against my better judgement & poof! so when we get them back, I'll break em in like the old XS's, & let y'all know (BTW the ols XS's were in this setup, & we swapped for the 3XL's)
-
LOL, no usually they are pretty burly subs. LOL Also I don't work for Powerbass....ehh, one day maybe, but they would have to convince me to give up my shop

size box & tuning all depends on vehicle & what you are looking to attain with them. comaprison wise.....here is list of sube about the same that I have used: Atomic AP with SPL motors (Atomics are .7 quieter & don't handle as much power) American Bass VFL (almost identicle to the Atomics) SoundStream T4 Tarantula (2db ish quieter & slightly less power handlng) MTX 9500 dual 4 (MTX 3.5 quieter, but MTX sounds better & handles WAY more Power...they just take the power, but don't get any louder) Memphis Mojo (.3 off of the Powerbass, & handles about the same power...we used the dual 2 mojo) We have run the XS's in just about every setup imaginable. they seem to do the best with 1 XA-3000 to a pair of the 15. Here is a list of my #;s in my rex with a bunch of different amp setups. My box is 10cuft, & setup as a wall. tunes at 50Hz, & my burp note is 52Hz with 2 XS15D1's. all #'s are with the new TL XA 2150 (300W rated figure around 1K at 17.5 V) 149.9 2 Interfire IFD1000C's (rated 900W total Power around 3500) 152.8 1 XA3000D (rated at 3KW on 12V) 154.7 4 Interfire IFD1000C's (around 7KW at 16.5V) 155.8..my usual setup 4 Powerbass XA-3000D's subs blew in less than 1 second, & swapped to the dual 2's for the show, & still blew both subs before we got the burp off, rolling onto it still pulled a 158.5......just a side note, about every 2-3 times we blow a sub with the 3000D's, we blow an amp ...BUT PB is AWESOME at getting us new amps
-
wait....they are dual 1ohm VC, then how did you wire 1 at 1 ohm? hmmm. check where the tinsel leads are soldered onto the push terminals to see if the solder broke. I have had that happen MANY times with the older PB subs. Other than that the XS's are almost bullet proof.

just did a 300.2, & it had about as much power as the VR3 amp it replaced, but was cleaner. It didn't like running bridged to a single 4 ohm sub though (Pioneer 10). for the price it is an ok amp, nothing at all like the XTA amps. (XTA's being WAYY UNDERRATED) the "600watts" on the case of the asa300 was embarrasing to try to explain to the customer though. I told them it was an "ALS" measurement (As Lightning Strikes). come on PB put 250 on the amp & make us all happy (20 amp fuse...so not even on 18V would it come CLOSE to 600W) -
OK folks. I am getting ready to drop a sizeable order with my freinds at Powerbass, but am wondering if anyone that has used the XS subs, & swapped to the XXXL subs, what they thought of the change. I have a customer that I did 2 XS15's, & wants to try the XXXL's, & I don't want him to spend the $$ & not get as much outta them....so let me know what y'all think....please no lip service, if they are better great, if not please be honest...as we are talking about $800 of this guys money (I would be selling him the XXXL for $400 each)

Actualy we have had good luck with the DS line ( ES12DS specificly) we are puling 57's out of 4 of them (USACI NEW TL) in a wall in 94 Blazer. Also, we tested the ES12DS's right along side of 4 Atomic AP 12's (with SPL motors) & only lost .1 (this is with 2 Earthquake D1's). But yes the XS's are the SPL guys sub of choice......up to about 3500W each....then we have run into thermal problems......Best we've gotten so far was 167.7 on the old TL......but we only get about 12burps out of each sub, so tuning is VERY frustrating. BTW that 67 is with 2 Powerbass 3000D's NOT strapped.....at 18V

if it is one of the early v.2 PB had a glue issue. If it is one of the older all black basket ones, I would think you are WAY over extending the sub. I would give PB a call. Also if you wanna fix it yourself (if you get no where with PB) I use "Automotive Amazing Goop" you can find it at Andy's true Value. It is in a red tube & comes out clear. It gives about 1 min of adjustment time before it sets, then is totally set after about 24 hours. But yeah, FIX it before you play it any more. Because what you hear rattling is the Voice Coil on the pole peice!!

1 ohm strapped. so you only have to deal with 1 bass knob & you don't have to gain match them
-
yeah, they'll take it, not 4 street bass though...although I doubt that you listen to 2 of em for SB....for burps hell yeah, & they put out a little more BUT SUCK down the juice 2 do it. you have better have some batteries on em. we run ours at 18V running at .35 & get 115V ish outta them.....be carefull though, if you toast a sub, chances are you will take out an amp. they have very little protection in them...wich is good, for the fact they they will let you abuse them for comps, but don't over do it
-
you want it for street bass, or for SPL. also what year? Please let us know wich subs they are, ES, ES double stack, XS, V.2, PBB, PBC, ACB, NBC, CBS LOL
-
the basket can limit exusion, can only allow for a certain #of spiders, & can also effect the backwave from the cone. Just using audiobahn as an example here......their first SPL sub had the AW lines basket, all Audiobahn did was change the basket to the big 4 spoke design & the subs gained substantially. I do not know exactly what makes them louder, but my guess less restriction on the back of the cone.

OK, so as some of ya know, Johnny Avarado is no longer with Powerbass. Johnny was the guy with the hookup for recones. Today I tried to get some XSD1 recones, & they said they knew they had the version 2 D2's no D1's , but will call me back if they can find any Version1 D1's. Also, they have recones for the ES subs, but they don't have any for the ES Double stack line......so I say, if you all compete with the powerbass subs, order up some recones NOW, weather you need them or not, otherwise you may not be able to get them. Some have said the Atomic AP recones will work NO THEY DON'T. the AP's are 2 1/2" VC the XS's are 3" on the 15's, I do not know about the 12's (The Atomic AP's use the same basket though.....so does RE, & 1/2 the audio world...IMO it is the loudest basket available) Also, if you compete check out the USACi SW regional website, as there is some kick azz new classes this year (caraudioevents.com)

That would be 16 12's. LOL it look a lot of routering for me to make all those holes!!!! That is our teammate Bill's excusion. The goal is not to beat Steve's truck. Please don't start any cagada that even insinuates that we are. Bills truck will be playing around with classes probably all year as different tunings and amp setups come about. I personally would like to see a 60 out of it, but it all depends on how much time Bill is willing to put into testing & tuning. BTW Bill burped a 54.1, wich was Meade's street beat score for the day....LOL I know Steve has a 57 in his for burps. I would love to see what Bill would do with the box better tuned & 4 3000D's in there instead of the 8 Audiobahn 1800hc's. LOL here is some fun facts while I am typing... Bills box weighs 680ish pounds Bill pulls around 800amps of current for a burp if the amps put out a full 1800W then each sub is only getting 900watts Bill Likes cheeseburgers Bill has 1 of my tape measures!!!!!!!

I don't have any pics. My CRX got broken into & they stole my camera bag (amongst other things). BUT it is all supposed to be out in 3 months or less, you y'all wont have to wait long. BTW the XA line of amps isn't suppose to be changing. It is still up in the air if the cosmetic changes are really gonna happen

SO, I done seen the new PBX stuff at CES. the Entire line has changes, as most of us have herd. the new still looks nice. I sure hope it performs like the old stuff........they clain it does, but the XS replacements don't look near as burly as the current XS's, wich are IMO a step down from the old black XS's. The 3000D is still their biggest amp, & the Autosound line of amps are supposed to be out shortly....for real this time, & they look nice....pricepont is even better. I think retail on the smallest one it $200ish. they have a badass higher end coax, with full x-over network mounted to the spk.....intended for custom applications where you would usually use a set of seperates, but only have room for a coax (cool.....I guess. I say MAKE ROOM for the seperates). I can help answer most questions. I am not here on the forums much, but you can E-mail me at [email protected], if I don't reply to your post. I do not work at PBX, I am just a dealer, but did get a lot of info on new stuff at CES, & can compare it to most the old stuff & am more than willing to share whatever info y'all need
-
ummm....if it was USACi it was 901-1800. Not a bad score though
-
hey, if your subs is 3 years old, it is time for a new one anyway lol ....I jus don wanna see PBX getting whored out all over the net like every other brand
-
oh man, I sure hope you all arn't buying this stuff off internet stores. Call up PB Directly & have them direct you to your closest authorized shop....only then will you be able to take advantage of the 3 year warranty.
