    The Mag is here.

Thank you... Though my next install will be less focused on how it looks and more about the LSQ. Sound reeally promising. Okay expect 2 or 3 songs from my end. ...lets hope the subs can perfom sweetly with those songs. I will send them to your email address. Well I just hope I can manage to fit 3x subwoofers in my car...

    The Mag is here.

Hi Nick! Damn it looks good already and hopefully, like you said, it will sound perfectly as well... I am still considering buying 3 (three) new Mags in 1 cu. ft. sealed enclosure (each) running them from 2 (two) linked SAZ-1500D amplifiers at 3 ohms (don't want to lose out on the dampening factor with 1.33 ohms). Meaning the new Mag's will get 800W RMS each. I take it the new Mag's will be able to handle this for daily listening / driving? Any other recommendations? Do you have any T/S yet, or should I wait a bit more... Hehe. One more thing; I already pm-ed you about this, but here goes: Will these new Mag's be able to perform like my old (Mark I) RE XXX's and thus perform better than my 2 (two) SoundSplinter RL-p 12" subwoofers (no offence meant to Mike). Cause I really didn't like the way the Soundsplinters performed on my kind of "music". Also, on a more personal note, can I send you a MP3 song of one of my favourite songs by email or something? To check out if the new Mag really performs good? I don't think you will like the song, but it will really tell me something about the potential about the new Mag. I would really appreciate it, if you would give it a go Nick. Man, I just hope I can fit 3 (three) of the subwoofers in my car... Cause my car (Lexus IS 220D from 2007), does not have a lot of trunkspace. :S If your interested in my car's setup, check my website: my car & sound gallery. Though there were a few changes after thos pictures; a second JL Audio 1000/1 amplifier and went back to sealed. But still it didn't perform like I wanted it to... Boy I really miss my old (two) RE 12" XXX's subwoofers. Hopefully the new Mag's can compete with them in output, sound quality and speed! Thanks for your time, like I always I appreciate your time!

Well it doesn't surprise me that the SS's don't add up to the XXX's. The new Mags are going to sound better than the current Mag's and do it in slightly smaller boxes. They'll keep up with everything you can throw at them. You won't have to worry about them only sounding good on certain types of music because if the new Mag doesn't keep up, then your program material is messed up to begin with. I'll give you my listening impressions (Jacob from Sundown is going to be there also) when I get the prototype in, but I'm anticipating my impressions being better than the current Mag. And yeah, in 1 cube sealed you can fit 3 new Mag's in the space you can fit two other 12's...and you'll still be lighter with 3 Mag's vs. two other 12's. We do have an anechoic frequency response of the Mag and it's impressive to say the least. Upper-frequency extension is un-heard-of for a higher power handling, high-stroke, superwoofer...which means that it will blend sooooo well with your front stage. I can't wait until it gets here!! PS: I'll publish the graph pretty soon. Look for it on AudioJunkies also. Wow it really sounds sweet. ...I am already getting excited. I hope the shipping costs will be good (to the Netherlands) once they arrive. But count me on the bandwagon already.

Okay thanks for ansering... I have one final (and probably stupid) question; Will this new subwoofer be suited for all kinds of music? I mean not just for Hip Hop and R&B (no offence guys & girls), but also for Techno and Trance (which requires a quick subwoofer with some good punch) even when sealed (trunkspace is very mediocre)? I previously owned 2x RE XXX (the old model) and man... They sound friggin' great on a RF 1501BD (old Rockford amp) in a sealed box. I now own 2 x 12" SoundSplinter RL-p's, but they make me miss the XXX's even when being powered by 2 x JL Audio 1000/1 amplifiers. They just don't sound the way I like them to... And yes, I have tried several different boxes as well (even ported = burps)... Also since the subwoofers have almost no depth at all (compared to regular subwoofers), I am thinking about getting 3 or 4 of these baby's (if I can afford it of course) powered by 2 linked Sundown Audio amplifiers (2x SAZ-1500D). Let me know and thanks for your time (once again)

So if I get it right; the subwoofers will be 12" dual 2 ohm...? Please correct me if I am wrong, cause I am going to order amplifiers, so I need to know if the ohmage is right...

    2 x RLp-12, sealed and 2000W RMS...

Needed or not, I already placed the order. Ah well, I guess I was spoiled with my previous configuration: 2x RE XXX 12" subwoofers in a sealed enclosure powered by a RF BD1001... Man I envy the trunk space I had back then... Anyways, I really hope 2 JL Audio 1000/1 will provide enough "juice" to power each RLp-12 subwoofer, to make my heart jump twice. Or at least more then it currently does.
  8. Hi guys, After much consideration and listening, I am thinking about redoing my current setup, especially the enclosure. Currently I have a the following setup in my car (Lexus IS 220d): - Original (Lexus) HUD and amplifier - Rockford Fosgate 3SIXTY.2 - Front Tweeters: 1 pair of Scan-Speak D2904/6000 - Front Woofers: 1 pair Seas W18NX-001 - JL Audio 450/4 amplifier - JL Audio 1000/1 amplifier - 2 SoundSplinter RLp-12 subwoofers - Cap., 2nd battery, etc. Anyways the current enclosure is a ported enclosure, about 3.1 cu.ft., but I really dislike how the subwoofers perform. They sound to muddy, unclear and kinda slow (especially with fast techno-based bass songs). Here is a picture how the enclosure looks like: http://auto.mvdl.info/Lexus%20IS%20220d/Lexus%20ICE%2016.jpg Anyways, now I am going to go use a sealed enclosure instead of a ported enclosure. Also, since I will lose output (compared to a ported enclosure), I am going to order another JL Audio 1000/1 amplifier. Meaning each subwoofer will receive a 1000W RMS at least (I guess JL underrates their products a bit, hence the name). Will this be a problem for the RLp-12's? I am thinking about a sealed enclosure around 1.25 - 1.35 cu. ft. for each subwoofer. Cause currently (especially with the music I listen to), the subwoofers are to slow and muddy. E.g. with a song like 50 Cent - It's your birthday (music I normally don't listen to, sorry) it's loud and hard, but still muddy (it keeps going where it should stop imho). And with songs like the song from Blade (sorry, "best" example I can come up with), it simply cannot keep up with the fast paced bass and sounds muddy. Sorry I cannot explain myself better... One more thing to note; in my previous car (Audi A3 Sportback) I had 2 x RE XXX 12" subwoofers in a sealed enclosure powered by a Rockford Fosgate 1501 BD. Each XXX would get about 800W RMS. Man this setup owned! It sounded much louder then my current setup and could keep up with it. Therefor I really hope going over to sealed and buying a 2nd JL Audio 1000/1 amplifier will re-create this effect for me... Also if anyone is interested to view the project, take a look here: http://auto.mvdl.info Thanks already! /edit I just notice Mike (SoundSplinter) has emailed me back with some more information. Thanks Mike! ...but still feel free to enlighten me on the forum guys! Always appreciated.

    2 x RLp-12, sealed and 2000W RMS...

So the sealed enclosure did sound good? After intense searching on the internet I discovered that JL Audio 1000/1 will do at least 1200W RMS each. So the subwoofers will be getting enough. Yeah well ported, I head a lot of good stuff about the Rlp-12 subwoofers being ported, but I didn't like it... Maybe the enclosure is wrong or something, but I lack space in my trunk. I think the subwoofers are currently in a 3.1 cu. ft. enclosure, so each sub is having 1.55 cu. ft. or so ported. Yeah it's not a lot, but blame my trunk. Hopefully the sound will improve when running sealed, at least to my taste. And I will be backing it up with an extra JL 1000/1 amplifier...

    2 x RLp-12, sealed and 2000W RMS...

Good to hear! And what did you think of it? Love it ported and tuned real low, but I don't lay into it much. Thanks for your input... ...anyone else has some comments to make or suggestions (regarding going sealed). Other remarks etc. are, as always, also welcome!

    Just a "Hi"

Thnx. Always nice to see when your welcome.
  14. Well, I've been using Kenwood (at start; 2 models) then I went over to Pioneer (2 models or so as well). Later on I tuned to the Clarion, but I didn't like the thing at all... Dunno, just didn't like it. Then went back to my old Pioneer. And now I have an Alpine 9835R, which has still to be installed in my new car... But my best friend has the same unit and I love it, lotsa good settings and stuff. And the dark design fits my car perfectly (or so I am to be believed). Never had the pleasure to use an Eclipse though. But there is a simple reason for it; it's not for sale in the Netherlands (nor Europe for that matter). Really too bad. Seemed to me a very good headunit. Don't like their designs though. Although I could probably import one to my country, it's not very wise, since most of them don't have a removeable faceplate. And just let's say, Holland isn't a very nice country when having a mighty fine car hifi installation...
