dave_Edwards replied to dave_Edwards's topic in Off Topic
thanks guys----I want to name him Phoenix but the wife said no---oh well Sean Erik or maybe Liam Erik.-------Liam=Irish for William----since I am 100% Irish it makes since. -
I am thinking of Extremis 6.8's in the doors (with some heavy dampening) wonder how they will sound IB?
-
the new Social Distortion "Sex Love and Rock and Roll" is totally insane---GREAT guitar and awe inspiring vocals----if you like socal punk with a harder edge----it is a great overall CD. "Don't take me for granted" one of the better tracks.
-
sounds good to me.....maybe you can teach me a thing or two-----
-
bring her too----the wife would keep her busy----and you can come see my "lil" workshop of horrors.------I'm serious---you should come up some time----we can make a weekend of it.
-
you need to just come down here for the weekend-----maybe even help with some FINE tuning.
-
When are you going to Demo the Magnum?----I really want your feedback.
-
Aaron---you arn't gonna make it this weekend? That sucks
-
Kyle----glad to have you here.
-
let's say----someone here was to make a limited batch of handmade amps that were very easy on the pocketbook----I have a few questions--- 1----what options would you want---power wise and such 2----what size would be the best 3----what class would you want 4---and finally would you buy from someone here building amps? just wondering
-
I know I will be at the State Finals(WV) on the 16th----Jim----you coming?
-
none---just a plain ol' amplifier----nothing fancy----think of something like a Sinfoni amp.
-
not if they are hand made by me----I know I can keep my costs low.
-
Class D by far is the cheapest to build----Class AB for durability and overall power to sound. I have never tried a common ohm power amp---I'm sure that I can find out about them though. I am checking into semi-switching PS----IE---runs Class AB until current is needed and switches then to a Class D----kind of like a hybrid amp. I have desided to make only about 3 or 4 amps----keeping the Beta version for myself of course-----NOW---I am going to be doing this in my spare time and if anyone here knows me knows I don't have much---but I will try.
-
the first few will be free demos---just to get my name out there.
-
I am seriously thinking of building just a few amps and see how people like them.
-
I demo Dire Straits---greatest hits----Romeo & Juliet one of my favorites. Eyna---of course and even the Red Hot Chili Peppers----"Higher Ground" anyone that listened to the Magnum up @ Princeton hear a bunch of differant music in it.
-
I also agree 1 watt = 1 watt no matter who makes it (Kicker/PPI/PG/whoever) now saying that----when you buy most amps now a days you are paying for filters and eqs and crossovers(stuff I really don't like in an amp by the way) so the power goes by the wayside and you get an over EQed sound(un-natural) but to some people it sounds good---Jim has a good point with Class A amps----not many people run them because-----1=they are too much $$$ and 2= not enough power for "the kids" that are coming into car audio. I will say this in closing-----give me a Class AB amp that can do good power and leave all the EQs and stuff off---please---the SQ in all of us would come out. like I always say----just my 2 cents---take it for what it is worth.
-
I know I am always looking for better sound----always----be it in home or car-----car audio to me seems to take more talent. in home----buy sub cabinet---install to a good home reciever----buy good sounding speakers and install---then boom----done-----it car there are so many more variatons and it takes skill to get a car to sound as good as a HT. just my 2cents.
-
I am more than happy with the Brahma. thanks though---lol
-
Thanks splblazer98----I got home and did some more tuning---the soundstage is now hovering above the dash and alittle further away. thanks again to Jim and all that listened to the Magnum. 137.1 @40hz and proud of it.
-
Jim---for you van and the air space you have to pressurize---you did VERY well today. PS----for your size van vs my car----you are louder than me!
-
don't worry------I will be taking pics------and I will be doing demos of the Magnum getting some other peoples opinion it.
-
I will be there-----can't wait for you to hear the Magnum Jack.
