New England SPL Competitions

really? how'd I miss that? It was probly my run where I forgot to plug the friggen rca into one of my amps, lol I'm such an idiot. Both my slammin bass runs were a disaster. By all rights I should have skipped that format altogether, I wasn't focused in the least on either of those runs, used the wrong song and a list of other screw ups. I just couldn't pass up a chance for a trophy in it and I like donating the extra $10 to NESPL lol. But really I wouldn't change anything from that day, I'll never forget that day so long as I live, with getting my Gram home from the hospital after 3 months on Saturday and then an amazing Sunday (with all the drama of coming down to the last minute) that had to be the best weekend of my life to date. Where's the video posted Steve, I'd love to see it? -

I like it man you guys did a bang up job on it. Still trying to decide what screen name I want on it, I'm torn between a few but as soon as I decode I'll register. I wish I had a video of my run so I could see how bad the gasket came out, from what everyone said, the reactions of people and the teasing about I can only assume it was pretty hilarious. -

hahah ya, that was some funny chit! I'm glad I had friends there and that they noticed it and did their best 2 jam it backin, but I'll def. have to find a permanent or more permanent solution for that for sure. As much as I love my enclosure its def. being replaced, Dave L. and I have already had several brain storming sessions on a new one taylor made for these subs, got to make it easier to pull the subs in and out too cuz its a nightmare the way it is now. My plan is to at least triple my power going to the subs, and to do it properly electrical wise. I know thats just for starters, I got alot of work ahead of me. Glad you like my goal, I feel its improtant to have specific goals like this to stay focus'd, cuz really I am competing against myself and against that meter. I also need to figure out WTF I am gonna do about my spoiler, unfort. I don't really like the look of TC's without them, I'm open to suggestions. & I know I like to make things difficult for myself, I should just remove the damn thing but that would dissapoint me greatly. It's possible to be real loud and look good doing right? lolol Maybe a carbon fiber one wouldn't crack like this one has It'll still loosen badly but I could always just tighhten it on a daily basis. I'll have to talk to shizzzon about this I guess. I didn't even see that link Kyle, thanks for the heads up, I'll pass along the word too. -

Thats what makes it fun, and painful like a woman hahaha. I want the 155 mark and I want it bad. I know 160 will be very very hard and may take more then just another year, but its my long term goal and what I'll be shooting for, music @ 154-55 would satisfy me for next season. I do remember Keith saying he paid $6K for .6 db at one point, I dunno if I think thats badass or retarded or both but I got the bug and want to play. Thanks Kyle, it was a one hell of a year thats for sure! -

I'll have to look again, I can't remember why I thought I didn't fit perfectly into it lol. You'd think their Nowall class is out of my reach (I would too) but I looked up all the results from '09 and not a single person hit a 150 in their Nowall class. My goal for next season is to crush my 150 by at least playing music in the mid 150's and by years end I want to burp a 160. I need to prove (to others and myself) that this season was no fluke, so I need at a bare min. to increase my burps by 5 db or next season is a fail for me. I am very happy breaking the 150 mark but still very hungry for more. -
I like your suggestion eggy, and djphilly you hit the nail right on the head with your last post. A totally random thought here, but wouldn't it awsome if all HU's and amps had "clip blockers" making it impossible to turn the volume up to the point of clipping. Would change ALOT of peoples opinion of deck's internal amplifiers and save so many people from blowing speakers and subs, aaww in a perfect world.
-
"high powered head unit"? that doesn't exist, there really isn't a HU on the market with an internal amp worth a damn really, and I never said nor implied he needed an amp powerful enough to make his ears "bleed". I'll agree that perhaps eggy should have been more clear what type of amp to use, but I'll take a crappy HU with a SAZ50.4 powering average components over a high end HU powering any speakers, even Focals. Also, a 2 channel amp of 70-100 watts is not much power, not even close. Perhaps we are arguing over symantics, but I am having a hard time with the comments about coax speakers, and the implication that there is any HU with an internal amp worth the material its made out of, in a perfect world all HU's would have only RCA outputs and no internal amp. Really tho its the coax speaker thing killing me, guess I'll just have to let it go. All healthy arguing aside, your a member now so I hope you stick around and check out the site. If your a fan of SQ, or SPL or good people in general you will love it here. I've said this before and will ay it again, discussion leads to progression, so enjoy the site and again stick around.

holy crap, when the guy stepped in and closed the door tighter I realized how tiny this thing is, WOW. Thats one unique car, how did you fit a 15 in there? -
I think your missing the real point, the way you make it sound a person would have a better SQ sound stage using a head unit to power coax speakers then a class a/b amplifier powering components and we all know that isn't true. Your explainations were misleading at best.

^^^ I like the sounds of this Marcus! Glad to hear we'll be seeing much more of you. As far as combining amature classes I don't remember saying that was a good idea, I remember listening to your thoughts on it and considering your thoughts on it, but I def. think it would hurt the League. Having 20 people in one class would not only suck but would make alot of the people in that class lose interest quickly. Besides Kyle think of the amount of people we know alone planning to built for those classes, that would screw them pretty good. Hell if anything I'd add an Amature 3 class. I know Steve is probly not interested in adding another Am class but I'm just saying. The Am classes is where the league gets it primary growth from, year to year. Its where we started. I know either way I would have been addicted but I would have had alot less fun if I had to jump right in with all the "wolves" . Think about guys like Brice B. he came out just to check it out one weekend, entered the A1 class and won, the win, trophy and excitement got him instanly addicted. Think about Justin F. he came out to his 1st comp ever last Sunday and won, I guaruntee we will see him at alot more events next season. Would that be true if things were different and there was no Am class? Who knows, and I know your not proposing to eliminate AM classes and if AM classes were combined he would have still won but I'm just trying to make a point about how important the amature classes are to the league overall. Maybe instead of adding an Am 3 class Steve a str8 up show car SPL class would be good. I don't think a single show car won or even placed in an Am class all year lol. However most (actually all I think) were in conjunction with car shows. My thought are it could help to not only get more show cars to enter but raise the potential to get a show car guy addicted. Maybe charge them $5 or just $10 for one run and do certificates only for that class or just a trophy for 1st and certificates for 2nd and 3rd. Just a thought to kick around. -
he's an SQ "judge"?? I missed that I guess I need to read more closely, if thats the case then WOW is all I can say, this guy needs to put on a santa hat and
-
I would love to be a fly on the wall while this guy and M5 got into a "conversation". I would buy a ticket for that for good money, although I don't know how much time M5 would waste on him, just a guess tho.
-
Thank you for posting this cuz I needed a good laugh today. The only thing he said that I agree with is sq is somewhat subjective however that is with in reason. Think of it this way, its guys like this who make people like "us" sound soooo much better. He needs to get out of the dark ages. I also don't see where you said you need "70 100x2" amplifiers. Just because he has been installing for "30 years" doesn't mean shit! A year ago I had a guy who has installed and built enclosures for 20 years (and I knew him for 14 years) build me a box, it was the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen in my life. He didn't fullfill a single one of my needs, and yes I told him very specifially every single one of my needs. I trusted this guy without question and was very dissapointed. My point is that years of experience in itself means very little, esp. if they were no good in the 1st place. He obv hasn't learned anything new in those 30 years lololl.

Ya I'm looking forward to it, after reading your email about it last night I spent an hour or more looking through the classes and what not looking for my niche. I'll say look out TNESPL's Pro No Wall class cuz I am a coming! I'll be much louder by the time the season rolls around, any one else in that class better hope they are too ;-) lol The woofer cooker classes seem pretty cool but I don't quite fit into those classes nor plan to build for them, so Pro NW is def what I will launch my assalt on. I am pumped for this, I always thought TNESPL needs to have events in New England to be a little more "true to their name" and it seems this is going to be reality! Looking forward to meeting/seeing Thorrs hammer too, I can only assume he'll have a few excuses to be bringing Frank and himself of course around my way, been wanting to meet him but I never got around to it. So whats up Thor, you as excited about this am I am or what?! -
my last enclosure tuned @ that freq. slammed very very hard to DJ Magic Mike "Make the car go boom" & "Feel the bass" by same guy.

Welcome, nice car! The people who ever they were gave you solid advice. Great equipment, people and information on this site!
-
Welcome, people here are very helpful so feel free to ask questions, sometimes questions are easier to think of then personal intro's. What do you have for a system and/or what kind vehicle do ya got?
-
Welcome, you picked the right place to learn IMO. If my memory serves me correct there is a few build logs here for the same vehicle you have, always cool to check out what others have done to see if they had any problems or good ideas you can apply to your vehicle.
-
welcome, I'm sure your exsperience here will be much better then any other audio forum on the net., it certainly has been for me.
-
welcome, glad you decided to start posting.

Thanks to SSA I found the SPL league i love and compete in every weekend (NESPL), also for lots technical info and advice I found here helping in my quest to be loud. Hit my 1st 150 (150.4 to be exact) in my rookie season and gained 12 db. This is a premier car audio site and has helped exspand my knowledge base by alot. Just wanted to thank the owners and technical team here as well as fellow forum members. I am a better competetor because I am a member of SSA. -Bill

Thank you very much! It happend thanks to alot of peoples' help, including SSA! Plus it all started right here, I really have learned so much from this site and its members. Def. would not have been a possability without SSA. I wouldn't have met the rest of the people that had a hand in the number either... I could go on and on but I'll save you all from a drawn out "Oscar Speech" lol. I will say this though, I have accounts on several sites but this is the only one that has helped me. I'm as addicted as can be, next year 160!
-
Nice keep the vids coming. Your pretty crazy for making vids while your driving tho lol. You should try to play the song you played at the audio werks show, with your door closed, cuz your roof flex was out of control that day.

Thanks Jay-cee! They say you never forget the 1st time you break 150 and after having done it I can see why, I'm so stoked! 1st I must clarify, the enclosure was designed and built specifically for 2 soundstream T5-15's, I got my new subs less then 2 weeks ago and just dropped them in this box, so its not perfect for the subs but got the job done :-) My internal space is 6 cubic feet net maybe a tiny bit less cuz these subs are so much bigger then the T5's. Every wall is doubled, so 1.5"'s thick. I have 3 external custom aero ports flared at both ends and as you can see in my avatar the flares are all one solid piece of MDF. Originally we went for a tuning of 49 hertz, but after installing it and testing its peak is @ 40 hertz. Not exactly sure why, but it sound sweet on all types of music! It plays music pretty brutally and but sounds evil on burps. Somehow I got the best of both worlds out of it, my builder is amazing to be honest, Dave Lehneman. I am not exactly sure on the total port area but I know without the flares it has 350-360 square inches of port, so more with the big ass flares. It doesn't have 45's and is not glassed but the wood feels like velvet cuz of the way he sanded it (sooo freaken smooth). The screws used to help bind the double walls together are perffectly symetrical, he measured location for them on every single screw! He really went over and above the call of duty on this box, I know there's even more in it.
