what is the point of bass boost?
SPLScion replied to Lucky 76's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
lol x2 my buddy just blew his sub for the 4th time in a row cuz of this "wonder knob" he finally believed me after his sponsor rep flipped out on him and made him promise to keep it all the way off -
Help with amp (Again)
SPLScion replied to tech2332's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
sounds like you have it wired down too low, what impendance is amp stable to? are absolutely sure you have it wired to your sub properly? -
they are just trying to help, for the insane $ you will spend on those kickers you could get MUCH louder and more clear subs, like Fi, SSA, Sundown or SoundStream with much better customer service for much less dough. But to answer your question 3.5 sounds about right not including sub, port or bracing displacement, of course that also depends on your goal for the box. sounds like a daily driver box and tune to me

I owned 2 of these when they were new and ya they were pretty loud in small enclosures, 2.5 would be fine. they really did take a pounding, at the time most people around my way described them as being able to be literaly kicked and not miss a beat. I had them in a custom (and small esp. for the time) bandpass enclosure in the trunk of an '88 Pontiac Grand-Am w/ a ton of room left over, if ur familar w/ those cars they have pretty small trunks. GL with them, Im a fan of them, post a pic of the box when ur done if you would. I also might have the original paper work fromn the factory, if I do they are under tons of papers so may take a few days to find but I'll def. look for you.

New England SPL Competitions
SPLScion replied to creatormass's topic in Competitions & Other Organized SPL/SQ Events
I went to the last 2 shows June 20th n 27th and they were a blast! He really puts on a great, smooth running comp.! Not only is he friendly and easy to talk 2, but so were all tthe other bassheads! there are some crazy installs/cars there that alone make the trip worth it! Hope to see you @ the Boston event and GL! I will def. be @ every event he has! -
dayum! WTG to you and Sundown! very impressive

hi and welcome, I was in the same situation as you, away for ten years or so and back into it now. I'll tell ya what you heard right about this place, I haven't made very many posts, theres sooo much great information I just read, and read and read... and have learned alot! (tx ssa) dunno if ur interested in competing or just want to be loud for louds sake (a worth while reason for sure) but you can find the path to a pounding system in these pages, these guys really know their "stuff"

I fit 2 15" subs into the trunk of a '89 Pontiac Grand-Am ... it sounded sooo horrid that I sold the car, used an Axe on the encloser and threatened the guy who made/sold me the box in the 1st place. I kept the subs and had a real pro design and build me a box for them and put it into an old Saab 900 ... never lost in comp. w/ it... stick with your one 15, have a proper box design for it w/ the proper amount of power and you'll be happier then trying to do 2 of them improperly I promise you. One 10" sub in the right box w/ the right power can SMOKE four 15's if they are in a crappy box esp. when crammed into a trunk without the correct amount of "breathing" room even if you had tons of power to 'em.

What processing is available for Active 3-way?
SPLScion replied to MKader17's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Kenwood Excelon decks have a good 3-way X-over built-in with total slope control and db (+) or (-) , @ least mine does (model KDC X-991) and i know @ least a few of the other models have it too but not sure on model #'s) however it has NO subsonic filter which is why I scooped up an AudioControl 3XS with several extra chips that is new in box even tho its old school, found it hidden away on a shelf @ a local pro-shop I hooked it up for all of 10 mins. then decided that since I have exactly 1/2 the power my subs want it was not needed and un-hooked it (dayum impulse shopping lol). now just trying to decide wheather to keep it or not. If ya need it I could be talked into parting with it. -
the only way to get a legit 2K @ 1 ohm is a SS TRX-2000d but you'd have to buy it on-line to get it that cheap. I'm thinking about buying it but... I am thinking I want room to grow... what's out there for 2,000 wrms @ 4 ohms... hmmm wonder what the cheapest way to do that would be? that sundown saz-2000 better hurry up and come out :-(

The SPLX is a high quality sub designed more for burbping, having it in too big a box will make it sound like Jensen or a pyle driver. I highly suggest you rebulid your encloser, vented it should be 2 ft.3 (not inlcluding ports and massive amounts of bracing) tuned to 36 hrtz. and sealed only one foot cubed (not including tons of bracing). A lack of bracing would be causing the sub to sound even worse then it would in an encloser too big for it but braced. Almost nothing worse then a badly flexing box. This sub flex's above average box's let alone an unbraced box. GL

Hello all, I am Bill from NH. I used to compete in SPL comps. from the early 90's till about 1999 when my car was total'd by a "friend". I finally have a system again and will be competing in the north east this coming season. I joined this forum to learn what I have missed out on in the last 8 years and (ultimately) to try and help expand the number of competitions in the area. '07 Scion tc HU = Kenwood Excelon KDC-X991 Front stage = Pioneer seperates Rear fill = Pioneer 6x9's Hi's 'n' lows Amp. = Sony X-plode 75 wrms X 4 Sub Amp. = 2 X Alpnine MRP-M850 (soon to be replaced... very soon!) Subwoofers = 2 X SoundStream Tarantula T5-15(for comps. also got a Old school SoundStream SPL-160) Encloser = took the back seats out gave the best box builder I've ever met a blank slate, $1,000 and told him to make an all out SPL ported monster box... a month later... still waiting... more details when I get the box

"Feel the Bass" by DJ Magic Mike, I use that for at least one run in every comp that alows it, every trophy I have is due to this song matching my box, if your box is tuned to that song forget about it. "Drop the Bass" has some very tight bass drops and rises, and of course "Make the Car Go Boom" by DJ Majic Mike has some scary hard hits @ a little higher freq. then "Feel..." If you run 15's or 18's the "Feel...." is song for you it hits deep into the 10 hertz range, trust me you'll love it. I used to have a bass CD that had this "nerdy" sounding professor narrating exactly what the freq. and durations as well as the type (sweep/step ect) someone stole the disk from me and cant rem. its name if anyone knows it please post, its the perfect comp CD. For BaseRace's where test tones and bass CD's are not allowed I like The intro to Ludacris's album "Red Light District" and C-Murder's "Ride or Die" just about every song on that CD SLAMS Hard! Its a rap CD that sounds like a bass CD. A buddy downloaded a bass CD version of Easy-E's "Real G's" I'll find out where he found it and post it, cuz its so loud it practically causes distortion when at ur normal listening volume, tame this song and hit some nice #'s

tyvm! Always makes ya feel good to get a compliment, I actually just got the HU, I plan to type up a review of it (unless I search and find one has been done already) but I'll say this w/out getting off topic, its an amazing deck, crossover central built into it. I also have a half farad cap. (got it for free) I know I need to upgrade it badly, thinking one of those capcells, solve 2 problems at once

I searched for product reviews and for local competitions and eventually found this site. I joined up after reading some threads and liked what I read...
