Started on these around a week ago and decided to show my progress on here as well. I have posted these on http://www.fiberglassforums.com as well, where I have been doing alot of reading and picking up alot of great info. But this will be slow but constant as i don't get alot of time to work on them right now. So onto the pics... 1st getting the door ready to be cut.. now with the door cut.. And some of the ribs ground off... made a template out of carboard for the shape and cut the base out of birch ply so I can mount it by screws from the back.... Now trying to decide what location of the speakers I prefer, choice 1.. Or choice 2, which is what I think I am going to go with.. Still have to make rings and then mount them, make an insert to go near the end of the cut to help smooth out the transition, and glass the whole thing. And in the end, I think I am going to maybe SEM texture them to match the truck. So I will keep this updated as I get work done. Started by laying out the rings to mount to mids. And after a little work we have them completed. Sorry but I didn't take any pics of me routing them out as it got pretty dusty in the shop. I think after I use up the last bit of mdf I have I'm going to switch to just using some good ply. Getting kind of tired of all the dust off the mdf. And here's a shot with the speaker and grill in one of the rings, not really centered up as I was holding it and trying to take a picture all at once.. Now I have the tweeter rings to do and then mount the speakers in place and also sand the board and rings some. Getting close to be able to wrap it in anticipation of FG'ing. Just taking my time since this is really my first time doing it.

What Mp3 player do you have? suggestions....
TOOLMAKER posted a topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
I did a search in the other sub-forum and did'nt quite get the answer I was looking for. I am looking to get the wife an MP3 player for christmas. Looking at around an 8-16 gb model. What do you guys suggest. What features sould I look for. 1st choice is an Ipod Nano. What about the Zune, or Sandisk models? Just looking at input before I buy one. Thanks, Toolmaker Mods: If this needs to be moved, go ahead, just trying to get a more diverse suggestion. -
Any company mass market custom fiberglass door panels?
TOOLMAKER replied to shizzzon's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
To be honest, that seems alittle low. You are talking complete new panels and that takes some time to do correctly, and you really dont want to skimp on them. Try looking up a couple of people- epicenterdesigns, and or coogle. They are members of a couple of different forums one of them being Fiberglassing forums. They might be able to help you out in what to expect. -
Just order you some welding cable online, usually can get it for around $2.00 shipped per foot or less. Locally I just paid $1.45.

Just wanted to find out when/where the next one is. haven't been to one in a long time( since I lived in Ohio), and I am getting back in the game. Won't be ready to compete, but would still like to go and am bringing my oldest son so he can see what it's all about. T.I.A. Toolmaker

I have been thinking of these since I seen the initial no.'s. I think I could possibly scrape some cash up.

Alrighty, I think I have the new design down. Going to be 4 Se 12' in 8cu.'s after displacements. Powered by 2 SAZ-1500's strapped tuned to 35hz. After doing alot of reading, searching, and math I have come to this: 3 6" aero's ( around 92 sq.in. of port total) for a length of each port to be 18.94"(19.94 overall). Should I have more or less port? I have read and searched through quite a bit of the posts. Some of the math and that calculators I have used said I need around 138sq. in. of port. But I have read that when using aero's you may only approx. need 2/3's of that. So with that in mind what's your opinions. If this is wrong can you point out some more places or reading that I can find to get a little more education on this,- how to decided how much port to have. Thanks, Toolmaker.

Is this enough port for my new enclosure?
TOOLMAKER replied to TOOLMAKER's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Actually you are correct. I went and redid my math and that's right. Now if I wanted to tune to 40, I could do 4 6" ports for a total of 113 sqin. of port, but that seems a little high on the tuning though to me. Like mentioned before I have gotten around 128-157 sqin of port needed by various calculators and if I was doing a slot that would be easy to make. Got the room to do that easily in my vehicle. -

Thanks, for some reason I cant get WinISD to work for me. Has to be user error on my part, but also may try reloading it. -
Just got about everything I need to start the build, so I am starting to design the enclosure. Did some searching on the site and haven't really found the answer to a couple of my questions, so I will post them up here. First the box is going to be for 4 RE SE12's powered by 2 SAZ-1500D's strapped. I have the 1/0 for power and runs, and am picking up 2 new batts for the back tomorrow. This all going in the Suburban. Box size ideally is going to be 8cu.ft. with around 128-157cu.in. for port. Will see if I can fit aero's if not I'll do a slot port and this is for daily. I have built and tried 3 different boxes so far. All peaked between 40-45hz, one box being 2 10's ported at 32, 1 10 in 1cu. sealed, and now 1 12 tuned at 40 with a 4" aero, in 2cu. Also the music I listen to varies from classical to rock to rap to whatever hits my taste at the time. So with all that out of the way, one question is would it make a difference if the 12's are mounted like this. 00 or like 0000 00 Also I know the pro's and con's of having them in seperate enclosures vs. common chamber and but will probably be going with the common chamber with bracing and double baffle min on top with the box being resined or painted on the inside. If this was yours how would you prefer it. Also going to start out with subs up port back. Like i said this is all in the planning stages so I can buy the wood and get on with the build soon. So thanks for any input.

C&D Tech batteries- would u buy them
TOOLMAKER posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I have found these locally for one hell of a deal. I have read mixed reviews on them and was wondering if you would buy them to use. They are brand new and can get them for around 100 a piece. Here is the link to them http://www.cdstandbypower.com/application/...ups/upshrm.html. The ones the guy has are spec'd as follows: sealed agm 95ah at 20hr rate, 350watt at 15min. Now I know these are'nt powermasters, but the slide easily into budget and actually let me buy more fuse holders and wire if they'll work. thanks. -

TOOLMAKER replied to TOOLMAKER's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Well that's one reason why I am asking. I really don't want to buy a yellow top. Have seen some people using them with no problems but trying to get a more overall opinion. Have also looked at Deka intimidators. -
How can I get one of the posters. Need one of those to put up in my garage.

Any benefit in having these made in 18"'s over the 15" version. I am getting an itch for some 18's and I haven't even got my other 12's in yet

New Trimplate for one of my 1500D's finally done
TOOLMAKER replied to TOOLMAKER's topic in Sundown Audio
Thanks for all the positive comments. Right now I'm still diggin' the look as they are. So to all of you who said dont paint them, looks like I won't. -
First off, have to give a big thanks to Jacob for allowing me to use the Sundown logo, and for supplying me with some hi-res jpegs. Finally got some free time in one of our CNC's and got this in. All i have left to do is paint the lettering to make it stand out more. Something wrong with the way the pic came out on this one on the "audio" shape Now to do the other one.

TOOLMAKER replied to TOOLMAKER's topic in Sundown Audio
Got the trimplates done and on the amps, Sorry about the crappy pics. They really dont do the plates justice. Kept getting a bad glare. Now that I see them I may leave them like this, but still might paint one just see how it looks as I can remove the paint easily. -

TOOLMAKER replied to TOOLMAKER's topic in Competitions & Other Organized SPL/SQ Events
Well, so far I plan on being there. Around what time does everything start? -
Not looking to cheap out on it in anyway. Just trying to make it a little easier on me since I'm not as limber as I used to be getting under the dash.

I am in the market for a car alarm for my 94' Suburban before I put all the gear in it. I can vaguely recall that there used to be some of the alarm makers having wiring harnesses out that would plug into your existing vehicle harnesses so that it would cut out having to splice into all the different loc.'s for the alarm to function. I have done a little searching on the net so far and not really found what I'm looking for or what I thought was out there. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe they abandoned the idea. Anybody got any input on this. I am not new to installing an alarm on a vehicle, but it's been a few years, and I am just trying to cut down on time on putting one on, and maybe getting around from doing all the contortionist moves of getting under the dash, etc. Thanks
