    Midbass

Surround sound is great for watching movies, but music is recorded in 2 channels. When you go to a concert, is the band in front of you or behind you? That is the type of environment you try to create in your car, so the music is staged like it is recorded, in front of you.

Ok, so I shaved about 1/4 inch off the top of the opening behind the seat and started to test fit the box again. I'm going to close the sides in last, its much easier to carry around this way Like OJ's Glove !!! This is with the box in all the way to the stock speaker magnets. I didn't feel like dissassembling the deck again, thats good enough for a fit. A tight fit it is. If you look at the passenger side at the top of corner of the box, I had to bend the metal up a little. Fawking floor is uneven so it is higher on that side. Here is a closer look. Since I took that picture, I have made even more clearance, its not a problem anymore. Here is a front view of the space I had to make to clear the strut towers. Rear view of the strut towers. Now the only problem I have is trying to make room for the E8 woofers and 6 1/2" tang bands. The magnets hang too damn low. Even with the MDF rings I'm gonna make them, they will still come down 2.5" too low. I am now thinking to just cut a couple of recesses in the top of the sub box to give the magnets clearance. I did the math and I would lose 427 ci by doing that which would bring my net enclosure volume to 5.4cf. I think that should be fine. If I remember correctly, Jacob said that 5cf would be good for them, so I'm still a little above that and I don't have to take drastic measures with the back dash, stealth is critical !!!

We will have to see how the economy does for me. I'm still between jobs after getting laid off, so I have to wait till I get working again, I'm still short the head unit I want, but I need to get $$$ flowing again before I make any more purchases. But other than that, i wouldn't mind at all.

Well, I pulled the rear pillars and deck out so I can get to the stock blose speakers. Pulled them out and did a test fit of the enclosure. The enclosure slid right through the door opening perfectly. However, I need to shave off about 1/4 inch off of the top of the opening I had cut behind the seat. I only need about 1/16th of an inch more, but I have about 1/4" inch of metal to work with so I'll just take that off and had a little extra wiggle room, also once the box is covered, it will probably need that extra space.

I know I know, I have to keep forcing myself to not rush it. Now I have to set that aside and start working on the rear deck, I have to get clearance under the rear speakers to test fit the box. I'm figuring a new deck with some MDF rings to raise up the speakers. I think I only need a inch or two, we will see what I can come up with.

Thanks. Those funky corners on the bottom came out better than I expected since I'm so rusty on my woodworking skills. Just to be safe, i'm going to glass the corners and resin the inside to make sure the corners hold.

Got a little more work done on the box. I got he bottom corners done. I had to do this to clear the rear strut mounts in the trunk. Next week I hope to get the holes cut, dowels installed and sides done. Then I need to work on the rear deck.

Another update: Made the 1st baffle and mounted. I'm lovin how that Dewalt makes those miter cuts. Fits perfectly !!! Test fit before glueing it in. One end glued and clamped. I used the C-Clamps as stops to rest the baffle against while I used the Bar Clamp to hold it together. By the way, those Jorgenson Cabinet Master Bar Clamps are the chit !!! After the other end was glued and clamped, I set it at an angle to get a bead of glue in the seam. Tomorrow I hope to get the sides done and maybe get the holes cut for the subs. Then I need to start work on the rear deck. With the stock Bose speakers there, I cannot even do a test fit, the magnets are in the way. I need to pull the deck apart to pull the speakers out so I can do a test fit of the box. While I have it apart, I'll make a template to make a new rear deck to house the ports, E8's and rear stage (for the kids DVD's hehehe)

crack in rubber surround on ns 12

Some black RTV (Permatex) would probably work ok.

    Which wood to use?

x2 on the Birch. Particle board is not very tolerant to any sort of moisture. Me being in Fla, particle board will fall apart just with the moisture in the air. I'm making my enclosure with birch plywood and it is extremely light and easy to work with.

Nighshade build in my Focus ZX3

Gotta love those aero ports !!! Very nice box. What size dowels are those?
  23. I'm working my way through building my system and I'm starting to think I might not want to go with the 2 Kinetik HC2400's I was originally going to put in the trunk due to space restrictions. I have a Kinetik HC1800 under the hood, DCPowerinc 250a alt with 14.6/15.6 switchable MLA installed. I need enough juice to power 3 SAX-100.4D amps at 4ohms and 1 SAZ-3000D at 1ohm. So, keeping the power under the hood the same, would it be ok instead of 2 HC2400's in the trunk to go with the smaller HC600's (maybe 4 or 6 of them)? I could easily fit those anywhere and still have some cargo area left over.

No I haven't and it bugs the crap out of me. I really want to hear how these sound, but I have nothing to test them with. According to reviews I've read, they have very low harmonic distortion and that due to the underhung motor it should remain clean at high output levels as well. I've also read complaints that the midbass is lacking, but I cannot say from firsthand experience as they are still in their boxes. I'm not too worried about that though, thats what the Sundown E8's are for

Are those the 7" seas that are in your sig? How do they sound IB like that? I'm thinking about doing that with my rear Tang Bands and Sundown E8s. My front set will be E8's in the doors and tang bands and tweets in kickpods, sealed. the seas sound really good, i think they would sound even better if i had some more power to em. i am running all front stage, no rear fill. do u know about maxima.org? i have a pretty extensive build log there I'm also on maxima.org as bobonit. Thats where I got the idea for the support lifts for the trunk. I'll have to check out your build there.
