Wow, Lake Wales, isn't that like on route 60? Singing Tower? Phosphate Mines? Blew thru there a few times heading to Busch Gardens.

Two remote turn-ons
bobonit replied to simons81's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
My last system had 3 amps and a crossover all sharing the same remote turn on and I had no problems. I'm going to use a relay this time, but I'm also going to be using 4 amps, 1 eq ,its controller and a still to be determined number of cooling fans. -
Thanks. Well, it does what it says. I keep it at 15.6v all day and I am having no ill symptons from any of the electronics. All I can say for it right now is that it keeps my Kinetik HC1800 with a nice charge, car starts up like its on steroids. Until I get the system done, I won't really be able to notice the benefit. Oh, headlights are real bright at 15.6v hehe. The only problem with the MLA that I see is that once you eat up all the current your alternator can provide, you'll still get voltage drop since you will be hitting the batteries. Gas cans, those are for my generator. After Hurricanes Francis, Jeanne and Wilma, we were without power for 10days each time. I figure that will keep me up and running until at least some gas stations get back up and running. Most of them now have generators too so you can at least fill up after a storm. Back then, you couldn't find gas for at least a week.

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments, it is definitely a confidence booster. Here is todays fun: Sanded the 2 protruding corners on the inside, then glassed the remaining corners and sides, excluding behind the baffle. Now for the porn.... I've been asked what Resin I've been using... This stuff is awesome !!! The best part is that its a 10 minute drive for me to pick it up in person

Ahh hahahahhaa, awesome !!!

I found it on google one day, let me see if I can find the original.... Found it,

Thanks !! Yea, I have been following this Mekp chart: ex: 90 degrees and higher = 1% of mekp 70 degrees to 89 = 1.25% of mekp 60 degrees to 69 = 1.50 % of mekp 59 degrees and below = 1.75% of mekp Since I'm in Southeast FL (its been 75 to 80 outside), I've been using 1.25% mekp or 80 drops per 8oz of resin. Its been giving me plenty of time to work with it and its not tacky after its cured. I'm going to try to finish up the inside today so I can concentrate on the rear deck next week.

x2 Keep that one at 16.0v or under. You hit 16.1 and poof. A 16v system will go above that.

Thanks, its hard work and its nice to see it appreciated !! Resin is US Composites B-440 Premium Polyester Layup Resin and the glass is US Composites 3/4oz chopped strand mat. I'd never done FG before so I got the 3/4oz and 1 1/2oz to try out. I haven't tried the 1 1/2oz yet, but the 3/4 seems to work good in the corners. I'll probably try the heavier stuff on the kicks and rear deck, see how strong it makes it. But I always take advice too

Continued glassing the inside. Got the back wall done.

Well, I figured since I've never used fiberglass before, i'd practice on strengthening the corners and joints inside the box. Well, i must say, if you read the stickies and how to's, its pretty much like they say. Lay down your mat, and dab the resin into it with the brush, I must say that I was expecting all sorts of problems, but it went without a hitch. So far I've got the bottom almost done and some of the dowel rod joints. I also put a bunch of mat between the bottom port and the floor of the box, it ain't goin anywhere Heres pics.... I'll let this dry today and do more tomorrow.

That came out nice. Where did you get the fabric for the speaker grill? Nice color match.

Installed the sides of the box, final bracing and ports.

Someone suggested to me that I should put in another dowel rod running from side to side and glue them all together. I did some planning and came up with an idea. I went over to Home Depot and picked up another 1" oak dowel rod and a 1" Freud Forstener Drill Bit. It came out better than I thought!! I just have to do the 2 outside sections after I put the sides of the box on. Instead of trying to fit clamps in there, just used zip ties to hold them tight while the glue dried.

Ok, I got the oak dowels installed, but I don't think I'm going to get the sides done today, maybe tomorrow. Baby steps...

Don't have any new pictures to show, but I finished installing the T-Nuts for the subs and started bracing the inside. Installed 2 1" oak dowel rods from the center of the baffle to the rear panel. Tomorrow I'll put 4 1" oak dowel rods from top to bottom, 2 behind each sub. Once that is done I'll install the side panels and then I plan on glassing all the corners and the dowel rod joints. Hopefully I will make this thing rock solid.
