  1. Ok so my buddy is putting 2 old school JL W6 15's in his extended cab frontier. About how big should his box be, he wants to go sealed. And which way should the subs face? Towards the back of the seat or facing up??????

Box design for 2 JL W6 15's in a ext cab

Well the specs say they like smaller boxes and he doesn't want to deal with tuning and a port etc. So I would say 6-8 cubes total. The main question is what way should the subs face?

Needing opinions on a new setup

From well to well, and its about 28" wide 28" from the back to the front of the trunk where it shuts, I gave 2 inches for breathing room. The thing is if I cut those railings out I can make the box 17" tall meaning I can mount it facing forward instead of up also. But I have the enclosure under control I just really need electrical advice and some 2krms amp suggestions for around $500.

Needing opinions on a new setup

My current box is 13.5" tall, 26" deep, 28" wide. Its 3.5cuft @33hz with about 50 square inches of port. Sub is firing up(only way I could do it)port firing back. The only way I could get a bigger box is by cutting out the trunk railings that hold the trunk up when you open it. I could make the box 17" tall and that would put me at about 4.5cuft And its a '97 Toyota Tercel

    SSD sealed?!

Well I have a 15" SSD on a KickerZX750 and it sounds AMAZING. Sub firing up and port firing back. Do you have the copper coil? Fi doesn't recommend going sealed with the 15SSD unless you have the copper coil.

    Thinking of a new box

Been bumping my 15" SSD for a while now and I'm still loving every second of it except for one thing. The rattle. Its not the trunk rattling its my back deck speakers, and the reason their rattling so bad is because the sub is firing up towards them. My dad had to buy a special bolt and locking nut to keep the screws from backing out because every time i listened to it the screws holding the back deck speakers in backed out about 2 inches. Its really annoying, you either have to listen music with the bass so low it doesn't rattle them or so loud you can't hear the rattle. *And I'm not taking the back deck speakers out they help fill the cabin with highs So here is my plan, Make a forward firing box and face it towards the back seat to stop the back deck rattling. Which would make it sound so much better. To do this I have to cut out the trunk suspension bars that hold the trunk up while its open. *I would have made the first box forward firing but these bars in the trunk made it so I could only fit a 13.5" tall box My main question is how would 4cuft@34hz firing forward sound compared to my 3.5cuft@33hz firing up?

What is the fastest you have gone

Topped out in the '97 tercel at 90 in a 55 zone at like 3am. Damn thing only has 3 gears and 97 horsepower, its like a go cart on steroids.

    Thinking of a new box

^^^ yes the speakers are in plastic baffles mounted on the back with the nylock or whatever. If you look back you can see the whole back deck and seat flexing. The trunk supports are on the roof of the trunk so I can't make the box shorter. I have to cut them off. I know the sub firing towards the baffles is whats making the awful noise so I'm just going to face the sub towards the back seat or face it towards the back of the trunk.

    16 year old budget build

I figured I would go ahead and put up a build log since some of my stuff came in today and I plan on being done with this project over the next month. Well I'm 16 years old and this is my first car a '97 Toyota Tercel, I got this car from my grandma as a gift and I couldn't be happier with the 40mpg I get. (1.5L 97hp lol) There is a couple things I plan on doing to it like a new paintjob and some rims and a tint job, etc. The first thing I'm going to do is give it a little acoustic upgrade on a slim budget. My planned setup HU - Pioneer DEHP3000IB Front Stage - 4" Kenwood KFC1682 Back Stage - 6 1/2" Kenwood KFC1682 Mids Amp - Kenwood KAC 500 Sub Stage - 1 15" Fi SSD Sub Amp - Hifonics Bxi1208 Wiring - Knu Conceptz Sub Box - 3.5^ft3 @ 33hz
  11. I just got a brand new zx750.1 for $225 shipped on ebay. Its pushing my 15" SSD and I'm loving it. :bigclap:

    16 year old budget build

Finally I'm done! It sounds real good Volume 25/35 Gain 1/2 of the way up I really need to fix the license plate rattle, its terrible. I went to let my buddy hear it and he lives about 3 blocks away, I let him hear it and my parents called me and said they could hear it from the house! But I will take pictures and videos tomorrow! edit: I'm not too sure on where to set the gains? If a amp is rated @ 750rms at 2 ohms how much is it putting out with gains half way up? And gains all the way up? I'm just trying to set them right.

    16 year old budget build

Ran most of the wires this afternoon, took about 4 hours. I still have some speaker wire to run for the back deck speakers, and the front door speakers. I brought my box outside and loaded it in the trunk real quick and let it get some REAL power. Gains about a quarter of the way up. And good god I was chitting bricks when I heard it, and I didn't even have it cranked up. My buddy that helped me build the box came and checked it out, he said its the loudest he's ever heard. My car sounded like a tin can full of mints rattling around but I will fix that soon. The only concern I have is my sub is still making the noise it made when I had it hooked up to my home stereo except its allot more noticeable on the kicker. The only way I can describe the noise is like a slap, I would say tinsel slap but the leads are woven under the spider...

    Putting amp under my seat

So I got meh 4 gauge amp kit today. :bigclap: My dad is fixed on helping me with the install and he said it would be easier to put the amp under the seat instead of in the trunk, and he is worried it might overheat in the trunk on a hot summer day. It fits nice and snug under the seat, and all I would have to run to the trunk would be speaker wire. Is there a reason I shouldn't put it under the seat instead of the trunk?

    Wiring Questions

Yea I know exactly how you feel, my SSD is sitting in my room just itching to be installed.

which box and will amp work with fi bl or btl

Okay so lets get this all correct. You want a loud groundpounder. Your max dimensions are 17 inches high, 30 inches wide, and how deep? You will have plenty of room I assume. I'm thinking 4 cubic feet after displacements tuned to 30hz or so? Should get loud and loooooowwwwwww.
  19. ShaneSauce

    Wiring Questions

Yes you would need another D1 sub to get a 1 ohm out of the amp. edit: Like this

    BTL

was that a joke? if i were in vagas i would throw my 3000d on it and watch it scream No I didn't mean for it to be a joke. What would I be joking about?

17 foot of 4 gauge count as a update? Pretty decent amp kit for $40. Installing this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY
  22. ShaneSauce

    BTL

Damn dude looks like you have a assload of room in that trunk. 2 BTL's in the future maybe? wink wink

which box and will amp work with fi bl or btl

I will help you with the box design, I used the RE box calculator to make my first box and it turned out perfect. How much room do you have to work with? What kind of music do you listen to? Is your goal just for it to be loud?

    Putting amp under my seat

It never snows here I'm in northern Florida. The good thing about where the amp sits is its behind a little protective wall that seals it off from the front floorboard, so the only way it could be harmed is if somebody kicked it really really hard from the back seat but I doubt that will happen.

which box and will amp work with fi bl or btl

Well I'm not too sure on that amp I will let someone else help you with that. But you should definitely make your own custom box. It will only cost you around $30 and a couple hours of your time. If you don't think you can do it you should anyways, because I was set on a prefab box until I realized how easy it was to make my own.
