You should just reply in your old thread instead of making a new one to ask a similar question. Okay go here and open up the calculator clicky Type in these dimensions under height,width,depth1&2. Width - 36" Height - 20" Depth1&2 - 30" That will give you a 3-D version of your box, and it will also give you the dimensions to cut out for the box. And in regards to tuning you just change up the port width and length (they are going to be in red) until you get the desired hz. Then you just build your box..

It sounds like a 12" Q would do you really good.
-
Yes if you get loaded BL's they will handle 1500rms all day. If your spending $1000 on a amp get the Sundown 3000D it is a much better choice and it gives you the exact amount of power your going to need. You can find it on this website. Uh enclosure wise it really depends on how much room you have, you could get away with 6-7 cubes per woofer if you have enough room. Once again the box should be tuned from 28-34hz if you want to hit low.
-
Well yea because your moving double the cone area with the same amount of power. It will be noticeably louder. Are you getting a good deal on the amp and what does it push? If your looking to spend that much just get a Sundown Saz3000D and give each BL 1500watts.

The big 3 is when you replace your vehicles stock wiring going from the alternator the the battery, the negative battery terminal to the chassis ground, and the engine ground to chassis. And all of this will be with 1/0 gauge (extremely thick) wire so your electrical system can deliver the right amount of power without melting wires. Getting everything installed professionally is going to cost you a pretty penny though. edit: Well considering both BL's would run off about the same as 1 BTL (3kw) I would go with the 2 18's even though it will cost a little more.
-
Wow your working with $2500 that's more than enough for the sub, amp, box, wiring, upgraded electrical. 8cuft sounds good for it, tuned to about 30hz if your wanting to hit really low. And btw dude your going to HAVE to upgrade your alternator and do the big 3 if your wanting to run the BTL. I'm just letting you know that your stock electrical isn't going to put out the power your amp is going to be wanting. So if your really serious about doing this go ahead and be prepared to order a 250amp alt and a good amount of 1/0GA wire. edit: and a extra battery!
-
Well if I don't ask everybody else will. What do you listen to? What are your goals besides outdoing your friend? Well anyways you can get a BTL 18" fully loaded for around $520 shipped I think.. I would recommend building your own box its tons cheaper. Then you would need to find a GOOD reliable amp to push 2500-3000RMS to get the most out of your money. So your looking at anywhere from $500-1000 for a good amp. And pushing that much power your going to need to do the big 3, get a bigger alternator and a extra battery.

My dad used to be really big into car audio and dbdrag's and stuff back in the day I'm talking about back in the early 90's when cerwin vega and JL was top of the line.and he is going to be helping me with my install. I was telling him about my 15" SSD and running it at around 1000 watts @1ohm. He said running your amp at a 1ohm load is bad for the amp because he said it will overheat allot quicker. He also said I will be going through amps like tissues if I run them @1ohm As long as I have my gains set right and I don't clip my amp won't overheat and crap out will it?
-
Good god I can't wait... I was in the car with my friend and his fosgate T1 running at 500 rms and it was making the insides of my eardrums uncomfortable with the windows down! I can't imagine running the SSD at 900 with the windows up..

Thanks RobClay for the diagram and everything it really helps out allot. D1 it is

Ah that's what I was trying to explain to him but he is stubborn. I was thinking of getting the Kenwood KAC1800 but I would have to wire my sub to a 2ohm load @ 900 watts RMS. Would I get the dual 1 or 2 voice coil SSD? I have no idea how to wire a sub to a 2ohm load.

ah poo so its $35 for shipping?

Width - 36" Height - 20" Length - 30" Here are the exact box cutouts Bottom plate - 36 x 30 Top plate - 36 x 30 Left plate - 29.25 x 18.5 Right plate - 28.5 x 18.5 Back plate - 36 x 18.5 Front plate - 28.25 x 18.5 Port L1 - 21.5 x 18.5 That will give you 7.8 cubes after port and sub displacement. Its tuned at about 32hz so its going to hit looooooow.

Shipping isn't included in the price anymore?

Okay everyone I am going to order later this week and I need to make sure I am doing everything right. This is my first system. I mostly listen to rap but I like rock too. Its going in a '97 tercel. I'm going to get the dual 2ohm ssd 15", and I'm gonna have it running at 1000wattsRMS@1ohm off of a Hifonics Txi1008D. Which should I get the flatwind or copper coil? I'll be running 8GA. And the box I'm going for is 3.6cuft after port and displacement. Port is tuned @ 33hz. I have 40 inches of square port. Its 34"W/17.5"H/16"D And just to make sure I did a picture on paint, here ya go. Am I ready to order?

Damn it seems likes something always has to go wrong. Well I don't have $400 to spend on a amp so the hifonics will have to do. Do they not put out their rated power or what? edit: Yea my alternator is a 70 amp hopefully that will supply enough juice to my amp. -

Okay I just saw somewhere that the magnets weren't coming in or something. And is the Hifonics really that bad? I mean I considered getting the sundown 1200 or 1000 but that's a little out of my budget considering I still have to buy front and rear stage plus a new head unit. -

Hey do you guys know if the BL magnets are in yet? I kinda want to order a BL and get a little more bump. -

Ah okay, its just that I heard 4GA wasn't fitting on some amp terminals or something like that. What is the thing called that monitors your voltage? Capacitor or something? -

I plan on ordering a SSD 18" pretty soon and I'm attempting to make my own box. I'm only 16 and I'm not very good at math so if you guys could help me it would be greatly appreciated. I used the box calculator over at ssa and this is what I got. The 18" SSD needs 6-10cuft and needs to be tuned at 33hz, well I came up with some numbers and I got 19.5"H/ 36"W/ 18.5"D and after displacement that gives me 5.9cuft. And then it gives me the port length, area, and volume. (Port Length = 0.722 inches) (Port Area = 7.069 inches squared) (Port Volume = 0.003 ft cubed) What do I do with those numbers? I have no idea of how to tune a port or anything like that so I will need some help. My next question is should I go with the dual 1 or 2 ohm voice coil? I don't know the differences. The last thing, I am going to power it with a Hifonics Txi 1008D Mono Amp which will give it 1000rms@1ohm. Will I need to make any upgrades to my electrical or can I run this on stock electrical? I really want this to work out and not have anything go wrong, sorry for asking so many questions. Thanks in advance, Shane

Thanks for the help bro its greatly appreciated. I just have one more problem I get all of my dimensions and everything looks good but I still don't understand cutout dimensions for L1 and L2 for the port.
-
Ah ok, then it has to be a 15. Since the cutout OD is 15.625" could I get away with making the height of the box 16" or is that bad for the structure of the box?
-
Yea I'm really considering that right now. I'm sure the 15 would be a tight squeeze too if I faced the sub towards the back, I only have 16/17" vertical but I have like 40 inches wide and 28 inches deep to work with in the trunk. Could I face the sub upwards and just make the box really wide and deep to make up for the lost height?
-
I just went out and measured the trunk and I won't be able to fit the 18 in height wise because I only have a 16" opening. Well the sub is 9.5" vertical if I'm not mistaken? So I will have to make it to where the sub if facing up and the port is firing towards the back right? I need a little help.
