Cross posted from smd Just picked this up today to convert to a show car/competing car. Building starts tomorrow, and I warn you it will be a little slow at first. Car - 1987 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Station Wagon, 307 Y roller cam. Dual flowmaster 40's Seats 9 Rear 3 way components already installed in the far back pillers, 3 sets of RCA's ran, along with a run of 4 gauge (will be replaced with new 0/1) THINGS WRONG WITH THE CAR (that I know of) Needs a starting battery Valve cover gaskets A/C compressor (probably just going to throw an alternator there) Tune up Shocks The interior on this car is immaculate. No tears, no stains, no cracks in the plastic, no scrapes, nothing! Just needs a little lovin' to get it clean on the inside, and a new headliner, which I will be doing this weekend. The outside is a little worse...lol. A few rust spots I need to get rid of pretty quick (will get pics in daylight tomorrow), chips in the paint, etc...but its nothing I can't fix. System wise- Headunit- Eclipse CD3100 EQ- haven't decided? Front stage - Rockford Fosgate Power series components (most likely kicks) Subs - DC sound lab lvl 5 18's or lots of lvl4 xl 12's Amps - Probably Diablo audio technologies 2500's or inferno 8.1's Exterior plans are to paint it gloss black or a dark candy red. The interior is in such good condition I don't want to re-do the hole inside to match the outside. Probably gonna be rollin' on some 24's or so later on down the road once things get underway. I'm open to suggestions about electrical. I have plenty of room for a massive battery bank but charging is what I'm worried about. This motor has the SAME EXACT pulley setup as my 82 cutlass, 3 v-belt system. I'm going to put a 200 on the AC pump spot, the idle pulley spot for the AC, and the stock alternator spot. Think that will be good enough? Also open to suggestions about subs and amps also. I really want to go with DC and diablo combo, but people have other suggestions then start throwing them out there! Subs up port back will be the option of choice. Oh ya, and with the seats out, and all the back panels out, I'm thinking a good 25ish cubic foot or more room to work with before I bump too a wall. I know that might sound like much but if you saw this thing in person you would agree, its pucking huge! Pics - Sorry I forgot to get them before it got dark, will get more tomorrow. Ya, but I left my camera at my moms. I fail as these build log things...this is like my 4th one haha.

Ok so I have updates. Happening tonight and tomorrow all day Building kicks for Punch 6.5, one tweeter mounted coax, one mounted in A-pillar. Running 0/1 for Sundown SAE1200D Installing 170 amp alt. Big 3 all in 0/1 Testing LED's for gauges, dome lights, courtesy lights etc... Installing front components. Ripping out shitty audiopipe RCA's that were pre-ran when I got the car. Installing Knukonceptz Krystall 4 channel 6 meter RCA's =] Mounting head unit a little more securely (bracket came loose a couple days ago..) Installing SAE1200D Building amp rack under storage compartment (when the 3rd seat folds down, the flap locks) This weekend- Ripping out headliner and re-doing it. Bought a lvl4 xl motor and basket (Thanks DCexplorer, Ordering recone Thursday) Starting box (somewhere around 6-7^3ft at 35ish hz most likely) Box will completely fiberglassed on inside with inch and 3/4 dowl rod support, all corners 45'd with wood, and topped with resin puddle covers. Kerfed port, double layer face, smoothed, sanded and painted. I have a half gallon of black and clear chillin' at the parents house lol. Might as well use it. Ya so I change my mind about what I'm doing with the wagon like I take showers (twice a day) lol. BUT This is final, I already have the 1200D chillin under my bed, and the lvl4 xl should be shipped soon. I started kicks today after work, and I'm working on the wagon non-stop tomorrow since I am off work.

Well... I was going to build a T-line. But Looks likes I gots me an 18' Hahaha. Should ship friday and be here next week my nukka's. I'll give some hints on what it is. Its 18' rated at 1500rms Man I change my mind on my system like I take my contacts out. Every damn night lol. =]
-
Ya that is a good point, I do need to learn the car a little first. It just sucks going from 2 18's walled of, so 2 8's, then to 2 10's lol...staying at the bottom of the totem pole for now.
-
Crappy update. Dude couldn't hold the 15's till the end of the month.. =/ So no BIG system for now. I will keep working on the body, and get it ready for primer and paint and what not. Headliner I will probably do next week when I get a day off, I just got a new job so I don't need to request off or anything for a while. Most likely going to order two RE SE 10's next week. I wana try building a T-line pretty bad, and I have a Sundown 1200D sitting in my room doing nothing so why the hell not? It's probably going to be a good while before the 4 15's or 18's come into play, so this is whats going down for now.

Since I'm short of money, and I have materials for the body work I might as well start it.. One rust spot sanded down and ready for filler. First layer on and sanded, I sanded most of it off to see how it stuck in the pits where the rust was eating...stuck in there good. Third coat of filler on. This was right after I put it on, I leveled it with 100 grit and the DA, then 150 and hand smoothed at 220. Then primer to stop the rust from coming back. You can't really see it, since the pics were with my camera phone, but my tape line could have been better. I also didn't have the right tape on hand, so blue painters tape was the pick at hand, so my line is a bit thick, but nothing some spot sanding to smooth it out can't fix when I paint the hole car.

What do you guys think about that trade?? 3 HC2000's for 2 turbostart 16v's and the charger??? straight trade.
-
It's gonna be a week or two on 15's. I got rent to pay =[ If it was the first of the month I would have all of them. BUT. Opinions... Trade 3 Kinetik HC2000 for 2 Turbostart 16v batts AND the charger for them. STRAIGHT trade, turbostarts are floating at 15.7 apiece. I'm going to be running a dual charging system, 250 amp 18v alt, and a 170 amp 14v alt (already have it). If I get the 2 turbostarts, I can get more powermaster S1000 16v batts from mechman pretty cheap since they came out of a show car. Then get the 250 amp 18v alt from him also later on down the road. The 14v alt will be in the stock location, then the 18v will be in the smog pump location (not required in Arkansas, no inspection) and the only the 18v alt will do is charger the 6 16v batts and run the diablo 8.1 =] The 170 amp alt will run the car, and my mids and high amps. Tell me what you guys think on the trade.. PS - Listened to the 15's today before he takes them out...and man they pound..running on a Cadence Z9 at 1/2 barely flexin'...can't wait to see them movin at 10Kw i have an 83 olds same pully system i have two alternators also except i put the smaller alt at the smog pump and my 350 amp in the factory location i was thinking about where to put my third one my ac still works. i was going to put it right beside my 350 amp and fab a bracket up to hold it. if you know how to take an alt apart u could build your own for cheap with an adjustable reg so if you decide to run 12 volt or 16 volt u can use the same alt. when i say cheap i mean around 290 for 350 reliable amps. u just need to find a core at a junk yard doesnt need to work as you will be replacing almost everything inside it. I was told if you do multiple setups in our type cars (3 v belt system) that you don't need to put do multiple alt brackets unless you even it out. Say you did 3, One in stock, one in smog pump, and one in A/C. So that you have the same belt load. My 18v alt will be in the smog pump, and I'm keeping my A/C once I get a new compressor since this one is locked up.

Got the deck and SAX100.4 wired in. I've already lost the output on the Swiss audio 3 way components that are in the far back C pillars. It's either something with the Crossovers or the RCA's. I'm pretty sure it's the RCA's because they are cheap as shit, and I know my 100.4 is fine. I have a set of Krystal 6 meter 4 channel RCA's on the way from Kunkonceptz. Should be here Wednesday I think. I'll get pics up in the morning, along with the (4) 15's if I pick them up tomorrow.

Double post because I can't sleep. I've decided on a dual charging system consisting of 3 alternators. One 170 amp alt in the stock location for the car, and mid and highs amps to run off of for the 12-14 volt system. Then If possible I will do 2 18v alts in the A/C and smog pump locations to charge a rear battery bank consisting of most likely powermaster 16v batteries that will run the inferno 8.1 ONLY. Time to start saving money =[

Will do, I'm picking the car up tomorrow morning or in the afternoon when I get off work. Hopefully they finished everything up on the car already so all it needed was the carburetor finished and put back on so I can get it in the morning... I'm most likely going to start some body work tomorrow on the passenger side before I take her out of town. The rust on the passenger side is pretty bad unfortunately, although it's only surface rust, so nothing some sanding, filling and primer can't fix. Just ordered some Knukonceptz 4 channel RCA's for my Sundown 100.4 Pics tomorrow!

Updates. So...I put the car in the shop as soon as I got it. Need spark plug wires, carburetor rebuild, and valve cover gaskets. I knew of all these things except the carb when I got the car. It's been in the shop all weekend because he had to order parts for the carb, so I didn't get too do the headliner, and then I got bored and thought too myself "I've never soldered a cd harness before, just crimp caps, lets do it!" Oh ya, Knukonceptz RCA's on the way, and I'll have the (4) RD alpha 15's next week. Pics Getting things ready (I had already butt connected the wires so I had to cut them again) Ground and Switched 12volt wired All that was left of the wire off the fuse on that side So off with it and on with new wire! All done Buttoned up! Keep in mind this is the first thing I've soldered since I did my 0/1 lugs for my wall in the cutlass, and that was with a blow torch and some thick solder. Been a while since I picked up an actual iron.
-
Wagon + 6 15's = FTMFW! I'll have 4 of them next weekend, then I'll order the other 2 later. Plan is RD Alpha 15's
-
Well...technically Texas and Arkansas. Lived on Arkansas side for 18 years, and now I'm on the other side..lol Taking the car in for a tune up today, and to check all the fluids, hoses, check for leaks, etc. Like I said I know the compressor is locked up, but an alternator is going there, and it needs spark plugs I'm sure. I'll update this afternoon around 5 when I get off work and pick her up.

Ya, I've thought about it... I want to keep the second row, which shouldn't be TOO hard with this car and 4 18's, ingenuity will be the key. There are multiple places I can hide things, the side panels have hidden compartments that can hold 2 batteries apiece, the far back portion of the floor has a dropped down place for the sub amps etc.. I already fit a HC2000 under the hood easy, so thats one battery down. Also the car will be lifted to fit 24's so I might just lift the back a little extra for weight compensation. PS - Nope not from Nebraska, way down south.

Lookin good man =]

Lookin good man, bet that thing pounds!

I have two DD 9917's in a wall on 2 z1's strapped and they took it like a champ before one of my amps went out. I vote DD
-
I was running them strapped at 2 ohm putting out crazy power, but then one popped from a voltage spike. Vids. And remember this is only on ONE z1 at 2 ohms...not NEAR enough power for these things. expect a lot better numbers when I get the other z1 back from repair. Sending off the z1 tomorrow. Drive by SPL run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6U-jJQpl1g Modified 5 run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ahhLZy9-4U...re=channel_page

Here is my build log.... Its been going on for about 2 or 3 weeks now, and has to be done by March 6th. System will consist of... Eclipse CD3100 Soundstream MPXO7 EQ (2) DD9918's dual 2 ohm. (2) DD Z1's (1) Sundown 100.4 (2) Rockford P162s Components (one set per door so that's 4 6.5's and 8 tweeters total) (1) 200 amp alternator (1) Optima yellow top D34/78 (i think thats it) (3) Kinetik HC2000's (1) Crimestopper CS 2000 II TW (4) Runs of 0/1 (two positive two negative) Wall is roughly 15^3ft gross internal volume...I know it looks small...but I crunched numbers on Bass Box 6 pro, and the12volt.com's calculators for DAYS to get this right. After port displacement the box is around 11^3ft so 5.5 per 18. I had 1 18" in the trunk on 3200 watts in a 5.5 Net box and it absolutely pounded and picked up EVERYTHING...so hopefully this will yield good results. The electrical is the week point now...I think I have enough 0/1 but not enough juice for it... 2 Z1's at 1 ohm apiece is going to be pretty power hungry...but I only need it currently to place 2 sweeps by March 6th. After that I'll upgrade electrical some more when money is available. Second alternator in the future...MLA module in the future..along with 2 more 18's and swapping everything to a 97 Ford explorer V8 and Restoring my car. Pics...56K beware. subs. Bolts for the subs. Alarm and car completely Stripped to run wires. KnuKonceptz Kolossus Fleckz cable. Huge Darvex order. Soldered 0/1 Batts. Couple of teasers of the wall...lol. Fuse holders and running 0/1 Stinger volt meter in the dash wired to the back battery. Custom fiberglass doors from scratch I did. So currently the alarm is done with trunk pic wired into the auxiliary, all 0/1 is ran, and the batteries are in place in the trunk. Tomorrow I am going to build the amp and battery rack, finish soldering 0/1, hide wires, finish running small wires, re-wire the deck and EQ, re-wire my stinger voltage meter, Re-wire my big 3, fix my alternator belt, and pressure wash the engine bay...lol. After I finish all that hopefully by 2 o'clock (starting at 6..in like an hour lol) I'm going to go to home depot and get some MDF and 2x4's to build the port, front face, and internal bracing. Then build trim panels...tint the back doors, and Cover the wall in matching fur to the doors. Once all that is done...lol, if time allows me we will test everything out on my buddies MTX 92001 at a over all 2 ohm load, and then an overall 1/2 ohm load (he runs it at 1/2 ohm daily and it runs like a champ). DD z1's will be here Monday morning when I go pick them up from FedEx at 8 a.m. then those will go in and the car will hopefully be close to done....if all goes well. Most likely weather will get bad again and I will be set back another week... But I hope enjoy the build...I will have lots of pictures tomorrow of stuff and more of the wall portion.

sorry, once I get the broken one back from repair this will be my setup for the hole season in Modified 5.
-
Ok so I'm a retard and I don't know how to hook up an alternator properly. Apparently I forget to hook up my stock alternator to battery wire which ties in to my regulator and regulates my voltage....so my alternator wasn't seeing a charge and was charging wide open which brought my voltage up and fried one of my Z1's In other news at the MECA show today at the shop I work at I pulled a 147.6 at 45hz at the headrest on the mic stand. This was with the 2 17's on 1 Z1 wired at 2ohm...so I was probably seeing not even 2500 watts total. I also tried out drive by SPL parade, which I pulled a 116 average playing photoshoot by Gucci mane. Mic 6 feet away from the passenger door, with one window down. The box held up like a champ with no flex and no movement at all. Hopefully I will be in the mid 150's when I get the other Z1 back from repair and strap them up again at 2 ohm. I should have video's of both my runs tonight when I get home.
-
Ok so more crap... One of my Z1's went up in smoke when my alternator hit 16.1 volts....so its about to get sent off for repair. In the mean time I have to get my alternator taken care of to where it doesn't charge as high, or get a high low switch built just for this weekend. The only option I have is to run one Z1 at 2 ohm's on 2 9917's =/ which isn't near the power I need for them... Once they repair the popped Z1 I will be sending the other to them so they can hopefully mod both to handle higher voltage if at all possible.
