Thats my dilemma, I have seen the space requirements for the 10s and its do able. The problem I had with my 12s before was they kept hitting my seat backs, Thats what I am trying to avoid now. Thanks though

OK So I have a 2000 Dodge ram Standard cab, I had 2 polk audio 12s in it 1 cu sealed per woofer. They are gone now. I am trying to decide if I want to go with 1 12 in center console area, 2 8's behind the seat s or 1-2 10s. I play a wide variety of music. I want it to pound when i want it to and sound clean when I need it to. With the truck being a std cab sucks for space. I am going to run a massive audio Nano N2 800 rms amp. I dont mind taking out the center console to replace it with a box but if I can get away with putting something behind the seats and the console then would be better all around. Oh ya for clarification looking at SSA ICON 12/10 respectively or 2 True Bass 8's

Have 11 in wide at bottom and up to 20 in tall and 4 ins wide at the top and it can span about 65 in long all the way across behind both seats and the console

I seen these speakers, and thought to my self what a way to get your image up and a fuller sound out of your Front stage with a good active set up. http://www.woofersetc.com/p5352/ES02--CDT-...vers-(Pair).htm They are a 2" tweeteresk mid range speaker with a freq range down to 500 hrz up to 20k. For someone wanting a 2 way active setup these might be ideal. get your image up, get your sound stage up and alittle more flexible as far as A pillar placement with out have a crazy install. I just wondered if anyone had heard, used or even seen a set of these used before. I wonder how practical and what kind of sound do they really produce. For somone in my situation where, I am wanting to compete yet stay in a lower division (ie. amatuer) they may be an optimal alt for a active set up. Could really have a good Mid bass set up and use these for your imaging and mid range. I was thinking they may get muddle playing that wide of a range and may loose some on both the extremes of the freq range, but I could be wrong. Any opinions ?

Ya 3 is to big, I have a 2" limit on A pillar. I am thinking of just saying screw it and doing me a phat ass 3 way set up with dual 6.5 mid bass, a 4 in mid range and a good set of tweets, Switch out my 12's for an Icon 10 and new amps, Change the whole damn thing up and work with it from there. And forget about competing. I was mostly looking for validation that I was good at what I am doing. Though one competition does not really validate me as a audio guy, its does tell me I have a clue. And that I am working in the right direction. Just wanting more than anything now just to try something different. -

That is my concern as well, I want to be able to crank it. I mostly concerned with the fullness of the Midrange. If it sounds hollow or does not have the body cause its coming from a 2" driver it will not have the ummphf to push it out. -

Head unit has built-in varible 3 way crossover. 6.5 mounted in the doors, and the 2 in mounted on A pillar, have not decided which would be better Facing the driver or @ each other I am sure only testing it out will tell on that -

That is about as low as I'd run them, of course this depends on your output goals and listening style. What sort of space do you have for a midbass? My doors are pretty shallow, Its a 6x9 location but only about 2.25 " depth to work with I can flush it out some with a baffle but @ most Ill gain is .75 of an in I was looking @ a good 6.5 mid-bass and using a pair of the 2" mid-tweet. As far as listening I like a good bold sound, full and rich, Tweets that are softer not harsh. Music is a wide variety, From pearl jam to Techno, to Kanya west, Metallica to Steve Buchard (blues) So I am looking for versatile, and generally well rounded -

Do you have an opinion on a 2 way set up using those. They look like they would do the trick. Peerless seems to carry a good name with them though I have never used them nor heard them play. -
Rockford Fosgate has a great wiring site also http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp

I went to my first car audio competition over the past weekend. I finished first in my division ( amatuer). It was a neat experience. I scored well for my first show and met some really cool people. I got some help from a world champ sound quality guy. He brought out an RTA, we talked and tuned for about 2 hours before I got judged. Learned alot just in the short amount of time. Was all in all great time. Also wanted to thank M5 for his input and sharing knowledge. Cant wait till the next show, I can attend. This may be the start of a real addiction LOL!!!

Damn man sorry to hear about your accident. I have not been as active as I want to be on here. Glad to see you are recovering and hope you get your legal drama squared heavily in your favor!!! -
Unfortunately the camera we brought died after only 2 shots, not sure what happened yet still working on it. And the Champs name Is Paul ..... ill have to get his last name. I was introduced to him as Paul, never thought to ask a last name honestly. Was to stoked to think that clear but he gave me some great pointers and a good Idea on how/what I am listening for. He told me he like to get friends or go to local mall where he lives, I think he said he was from alabama( could be wrong on that) and listens and sometimes records live instruments so that he can make sure they sound correct. He said if you can get pre engineered music its better, that way you can hear what the way it is suppose to sound not the way that a sound engineer tells you its suppose to sound. Thought that was very neat concept. With this new venture into the world of SQ, I have come to understand and listen to a wider variety of music. And some things that I did not consider listening to before has made it on to my thumb drive to make the rotation. There are some very amazing artist out there that hardly get any attention. It truly dumfounds me that I ignored so much talent and greatness before. I will get more info and try to manage to get some pics from a friend of mine after they get posted I scored a 51 out of 70 for my first show. I had some issues with amp mounting and battery mounting or I would have scored even better. They did not affect my sound quality only safety and install factors.

I was wondering where you guys get your home theater components. Speakers, amps, crossovers. I am looking @ rebuild my home theater from the ground up and was wondering where everyone shopped for the parts.

Well BigJon I can feel your pain. I am 6'2" 400lbs now. I have smoked the green as long as I can remember. My girl makes sure I eat pretty healthy at home. Its funny my girl is a little petite thing. I have always struggled with my weight. but about 5 years ago I blew my knee out. My wife at the time(divorced now) was pregnant with our son now 4. I gain like 100lbs in like 3 months being laid up from my knee. The worst is I want to get out and get movitvate to do more just cant seem to find the time. Work 12 hour night shifts, cant seem to catch a break with a partner to work out with. And sucks trying to go @ it alone. Oh ya I am from the south too. Sweet tea, fried chicken, fried or sweeted everything. I have found Truvia, that chit is great. Its calorie free, all natural and actually taste like sugar. While helping to lower your glyecimic(sp?) index. Great stuff Anyway I was going to suggest if you want to try and help movtivate one another give me a call. Pm if interested and Ill shoot you my contact info. Us big Men have to stick together.

So I finally got my Time alignment and my 2 way active set up going. Man oh man what a difference in the sound now that its all dialed in. I have switched out my dual 5.25 for a single 6.5 in the doors with the Tweets in the A pillars. Decided to stay with Polk audio. Got the Momo 6.5 comp set. Sound excellent. My buddy and I worked out the details for the tuning Saturday night. The Dodge dash and cab are so wide that it took some dancing with the settings to get a good center stage area. Tweets are crossed over @ 3.5 khrz Mids @ 63Hrz to 3.5 khrz Subs @ 80 and below We tested with the both the Meca Cheskiy CD and the Iasca SQ disc. Along with some Dire Straights and Eagles live stuff. All I can say is I am blown away. I have always wanted a good SQ set up. Before now been mostly a basshead. I am sure it could be fined tuned and tweeked for certain songs but for an overall well rounded tuning it's Rocking da truck! I learned alot last night about t-aligment and crossover settings. not to mention setting up the EQ. The clarion deck I am running is freaking great, I upgraded to it from a Kenwood Excelon. The clarion has all the options with active crossover and t-alignment I would like to thanks Chris with Team Wall Street's Finest for helping me with all the modifcation and working with me on the design.

OK this is the way I am seeing it with underlapping and slope points. I am more doing this to make sure I am thinking about it correctly when I adjust. So the x-over point with a 6db slope will be a longer slope to get to the xover frequency. There is still frequency exhange along 2 xover points becuase they overlap of each other in the frequency range the fruther you move the 6db slope point down the freqency point away from the other side of the xover point the less freq you are overlapping. So the more you move the points away from each other is the underlapping of the frequency along the range is so that each speaker knows what its playing and there are not 2 different speakers playing the same frequencies. I am pretty sure thats the right way to think about it. Though if the above is true then with a 24 db slope you would need less of a gap between crossover points and still get the underlapping for the speakers So if you had a a high pass @ 3.5k @ 6db and a low pass mid 3.5k @ 6 db all the freq between would be x-over as the slope rolls off. so both tweet and mid would play both ranges of the slopes roll off. But if you move the crossover point out so leave the highpass @ 3.5k @ 6db and lower the low pass mid to say 2k @ 6db so now you have basicly stopped the speaker from competing to produse those freq between 2k and 3.5k and have a much lower freq base of overlapped frequencies So if it was 24db slope would close the gap between crossover points due to the steeper slope roll off. My question is why wouldn't you want the steep slopes? The reason 18 db is out of phase is the slope needs to double on the steepness of the slope in order to stay in phase. 18 db is an inbetween point for the doubling from 12 to 24. That's why 18 is out of phase. I hope that is right. Btw M I changed my tweets to out of phase and they filled out some more and lost some of the brightness to them, which is great considering on sometimes they would get alittle splashy and bright. They are still bright just seem to mellow it out a little.

Don't forget that crossovers are not brick walls.Brick walls, not that I know I would use them if I had them, depends on how they would perform, but does anyone know of any brick wall crossovers for car use yet? I haven't seen steeper filters than 4th order for cars. I have never seen anything steep than 24/db
