    Welcome to the IHoP

Well, a quick update for you select few (loyal) guys... During this past weekend and including a good 5 hours today I have made pretty good progress on the Regal. Unfortunately, my computer overheated and crashed (it was an ambient 95 degrees in my room) and I lost all the pictures I had taken. I managed to aim the doorpods, and I used some 1/2" dowelling to mount the baffles to the back half. Almost all the wiring is complete, just have to get another distribution block for the battery ground. I built a new trunk floor today, and I also installed an Iraggi 220A alternator. I started fleecing the doorpods earlier tonight, but looks like "somebody" used all my 3M spray adhesive. I will hopefully have the fleece strached and resined tomorrow. Still to do: - finish doorpods (bondo, and cover in suede) - connect and mount amplifiers (wiring up the speakers w/ banana plugs, drill pilot holes for amp mounting locations) - connect and mount DEQ-P9 - install subs (will be here in a day or two ) - carpet new trunk floor - some more misc cosmetic stuff, trim pieces, etc. P.S. My DLS 6.3 passive crossovers are for sale, $135 shipped.
  2. Bang & Olufsen is designing an in-car system for the Audi A8. Looks like it is actually going to be pretty decent. No mention of a subwoofer, but if they do it right, I guess they won't need one. http://www.carsound.com/UBB/ultimatebb.php...c;f=18;t=009872

    I'm almost done here.

I figured I was being unselfish by offering to give this up so that "little brother" can run amuck in what he considers his stomping grounds. I don't see any compromise, and wehter or not he still has an issue with me being here, there will be no future conflict, because I won't be here.

    stereo vs surround

The environment is much louder.. much like in car audio there is road noise, in movie theatres there is HVAC, audience noise, projector noise, etc.. Also, the sound of a system like the example Frosty posted is highly dependant upon room acoustics. Movie theatres are much larger, and obviously are going to require more power/ouput from the drivers used in its speaker systems. Plus, designs like that are much much more expensive and labor intensive. I doubt that a multiplex owner would be willing to shell out the dough, and wait as long as it would take to buils a system like that. Commercial movie theatres are designed for one thing only, making money.

    Welcome to the IHoP

All I have left to do is the front half of the doorpods. (I finally decided how I am going to finish them.....but its a surprise for those who show up to the meet ) I have to wire and install the amplifierss and build the mounting boards for them and the DEQ-P9, and wire the speakers, thats about it. Further down the road (ie. when I have some extra cash to throw around) I will be re-doing the rear deck panel and make a custom fiberglass joint. I am also going to tint the windows and install a security system.

Sorry to break it to you, but I have... (Studio ) Bottom line here is that sound is not all about power handling capabilities. .

Regal Update: Calculated the aiming and positioning of the midrange and midbass baffle, installed/glued the dowelling onto the back. Picked up some fleece today, which hopefully I will get streched and fleeced this weekend. I also installed the tweeters up on the a-pillars, utilizing the "aiming" mounts. They look pretty sick, and I love having the ability to aim them however I want. I will never flush mount! Anyway, thast about all I did today, but it did take about 4 hours to get all of that done. I have really been taking my time on this project, making sure that its done right from the start... but I can say with confidence, it will be done in time for the meet.

  22. They are very nice amps, but I personally hate that they have such HUGE dimensions.
