What about the ssa Xcon? Very powerful sub and they sound great. I have a 18" xcon tuned to 35 hz and it still murders the lows.
-
I think the the XCON out performs the BL in sound quality and loudness. Im not sure about the numbers each one would put up in the SPL comp but the Xcon sounds louder to me. Thats compared to a regular BL. I have not heard the BL with the 4" coil option as of yet.

I bet that tube amp is going to be ridiculous. Gotta start saving now. Glad to see Zed bring out new products
-
Some IB subs would be better suited for this application. I dont think putting this xcon in a IB setup is going to maximize its potential. Believe me 1 18" xcon in a ported box will have huge output and sound great doing it.

Damn i read the thread completely wrong. I thought they did a review on the Xcon. I never thought the SMD was classified as a SQ sub either
-
IMO yes. The low end extention at low volume is good too
-
those ratings are ridiculous. IMO the Xcon is the best of both world. It is extremely accurate at its full rms rating and still sounds great with half that power and gets crazy loud at the same time.
-
What made you shrink the port area? Do you think the sub performs better with less port area?
-
Definately impressive
-
How will the sound be on these subs? Still very accurate like the xcon or are these mainly SPL subs?
-
Why are you going with Audiopipe? Just wondering? I hear they are good budget amps but with 2 Xcons and multiple Kinetiks it doesnt sound like your budget is a problem. Maybe you could get some Deka group 31 batts and upgrade your amp. Just throwing suggestions out there. PS: Dont get me wrong I hear those Audiopipe amps are decent quality strong amps. Some people swear by them

get 2 N1's. Im not really sure about you budget but that seems like a logical solution

Im wondering the same thing. Im moving in about a month and a 1/2. If i do decide to get one should I have it sent to my current address or my new one?
-
I got about 1100 running to my 18" xcon and it sounds incredible
-
run the 3k amp and turn the gain down. If you want incredible sound that can play loud get the Xcon. If you want a incredibly loud woofer that has the potential to sound good get the BTL.
-
Everytime I ground to the body I get a bunch of ground loop noise. IMO ground to the frame with all high powered amps and rear batts
-
what ohm load are you running to it?
-

I finally hooked everything up in my suburban and it sounds even better than I thought it would. I have a 18" Xcon tuned to 35 hz. I have it hooked up to a JBL 1200.1 II and it is plenty of power for me. As far as music reproduction the Xcon is the best I have ever heard. I've played every type of music and it sounds ridiculously good on everything. When i turn up it literally feels like its hitting you in the chest. Its starts getting hard to breath on certain songs. lol. Props go out to SSA for making a Top knotch woofer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When i get the wires and stuff cleaned up I'll put up some pics and maybe a video. Just a break down on what else Im running with it. Alpine 9855 deck. mli-6.5 with vifa tweeters. Running active on a US acoustics USX-4065 -

Its a Deka Group 31 batt. Its overkill since I'm only running around 1500 watts total but it leaves me a little room to upgrade my amps when the time comes -

Yea Yea I know. I might take a couple pics tonight after i get off work. I have been doing more tuning and it sounds even better. I dont even really turn it up much because my front stage is having a little trouble keeping up with the sub and this is a sound quality sub. lol -
They fetch mega money. I think a tube is planned for the new zed models. Zed comin out with another tube?!?!?! I was planning on eventually snatching up one of the old school planet audio or US amps tube amps. But I think I'll just wait on Zed to come out with a new one. Ive seen those Planet audio tube amps sell for big bucks on ebay.
-
Has anyone ever tried out those tube amps that Planet audio put out back in the day? I believe they were built by zed audio also
-
You getting rid of any of your zed stuff denim?
