  1. Turn the bass down then you can hear the highs............... Plus 140db+ of fullrange/highs will send you deaf pretty darn quick, much moreso than 140db of subbass freq's

    AMP

One more question. Was just looking at the mounting depth of my box 6 3/4". My sub is 6.75. Is it alright to have the sub touch the back of the box? No good if its touching, generally subs like a bit of space behind them especially if they have a pole vent...... Can you add a ring spacer or 2 ("space" the sub out more) to allow some clearance?

    CD7200 Mk II Compatibility

Simple answer..... No.... I'm using a 7200mk2 on amps that accept 2volts and they are fine. Remember it doesn't output 8v from 0 volume only at VERY high volumes and they tend to clip the preouts before then anyway..... Jono

    IXL-10 with US acoustics USB2150

I had mine off 450wrms for ages and it was excellent quality the only limiting factor was output. What are your goals for it? pure output or a nice addition to the sound of the system? Jono

    Is this amp adequate?

A few people use them over here, they seem to do well. Nothing particularly good nor bad about them. Only comment I have noted is that you shouldn't use the "remote gain" function. Not 100% sure why though..... Jono

    Welcome to the IHoP

I just have to say how TOTALLY embarassed I was at my SQ/SPL comp on the weekend................ Guess who couldn't work out why his SPL score was so low and he was blowing fuses (100amp fuses while running 4ohm) while all the time his Low Pass Filter was set at 40hz..................................... Only for me to realise this as they pack up the Termlab....... Idiot = Me

2 way active, mid bass prob

^^ What M5 said. I'm using a 2.5in fullrange driver on axis as my "tweeter" and the detail is amazingly good (going from a true tweeter to this). ^^^ Plus 8inch mids....... well they ROCK midbass wise if you install them correctly. Jono

Me or the sub? Help! Please! Pics

AFAIK running it at 4ohms won't cause more wear and tear. BUT Look at it this way, it gets less power at 4ohms than at 1ohm so in order to get the same output you have to turn it up (gains or headunit or loud or bass boost) more which may lead you to heading into clipping with incorrectly set gains in the quest for *MORE* bump. That being said I don't know if running it with more power (if you wire to 1ohm) may let it die faster due to the damage already received? If you can, go have a look at a good "setting the gains" tutorial online and set them properly. Once you've set them that IS as much output as it gets in the current setup (box, placement etc...)............. Any type of boost or loud or more gains may lead to damage (could be slow long term or bang pfffff gone) even if it sounds louder at the time. Glad to hear that it sounds fine though..... hopefully alot more faithful service is to be had from the beast. Jono

    Welcome to the IHoP

Understatement, I stopped reading any and all threads related to subs. Outside of the hop this has me reading about 2 threads a day. Whenever I venture out of that domain I want to leave. Some days I think perhaps the level on crapshitfestaudio might now be surpassing here Thoughts on actively removing posts that are flat out incorrect? IMO Aaron it's the wrong way too go. However altering the post and putting the correct information in the same post box with a note and a warning to the offender may be advisable. If you just erase it, no matter how just it will just look like someone having a pissy fit. You could close the thread if it's short. But I think warning the offender is more the way to go. Well said. As a newb here (but one with half a brain maybe?) I'd like to say I'm glad it wasn't just me that was noticing that.......... You can just imagine the panties in a twist should idiotic posts be deleted though, because the offenders would still think they are right....... Jono (who's currently checking that he hasn't said anything wrong or too stupid on here recently)
  12. Do you mean get the biggest that suits the gauge wire he uses? I'd hate to see 4awg with 350amp fuse on it............. Jono

Me or the sub? Help! Please! Pics

Yes. It will probably have a more limited life due to the damage already inflicted on the poor thing but if it still works............. Dude did I read earlier you set your gains at volume 20/36 then play the system daily at volume 22/36?? Why did you set them at 20? You were probably clipping the amp before it even got the shitty "loud" signal for 2hours or however long it was. Jono

Nope the VC config, they only come in Dual 2ohm....... so 2ohm it is for you (unless you can do 0.5ohm). Jono

    What About These Subwoofers?

Another Vote for the IXL, can't comment on the ICON as I've never heard one. The IXL10 in a ported box will fit nicely into the box sizes you've listed, it plays low and output isnt wanting. Tune low and she's nice and flat in the curve. Played perfectly when I was feeding 450wrms into it. Jono
  21. Such a nice amp. Pity they never made it over here (Australia)...... Would be nice headroom for my sub. Jono

    speaker selection for 2way active

Sounds like you got a great deal on the 8's + 3's + etc....... Re: the foam on the panel, are we talking door cards? I had some stock stuff but removed it then sound deadened and then added 2 or 3 times the thickness of open cell foam (as it won't get wet) to replace the stock. Trim certainly doesn't move now......... Looks like my 2.5inch Peerless are arriving in 2 weeks..... Better get building my pillars.... Jono
