I don't know, Rotten Tomatoes seems to follow my opinions about movies pretty closely

Every sub when installed has a point, no matter what theory may tell you, where adding more power doesn't correspond with an increase in SPL as much. Adding more power beyond that in an attempt to get more SPL might work for a time, and if you know what you're doing, but if you don't know what you're doing could be harmful to the subs. More cone area allows you to better utilize the power, so you aren't as hard on fewer drivers.

5000 watt amp kit?

Or maybe try to justify why someone spent $5000 on something that has maybe $40 in parts -
Google Web Accelerator

I love what Google has done, but they can stay the hell off my computer or email as far as I'm concerned. -
I would like the 4 sealed, you'd have less of a chance of running into power compression that way.

I've heard reviews about it that were meh. Besides, after No Country & There Will Be Blood, I think the movie industry is taking a break before making good films again

That makes sense, the e12a.22 I have is rated similarly...

No idea...SPL is installation dependent Although in most sanctioned organizations, those two installs would be in very different classes. Just something to think about.

cool looking. I just don't totaly buy into the cost/effectiveness/usability of that type of product. I admit I have never been in the presance, but it's hard to imagine it being of value, unless they are 2,500 and sound like perfection in an odd shaped cabinet. Here's the thing, though - what would you rather buy, more amplifier power or higher-efficiency speakers? And for some of us that use very low powered amps, higher-powered amps are out of the question, at least to a certain point Big Altecs like that weren't designed for the home audio crowd, originally. They were what was used in most movie theaters through the 1950's all the way up to the beginnings of Dolby surround...which is why a lot of them are coming up on the used market now, theaters are selling them off. Altec did have a home line of horns that were slightly smaller, like the Model 19, and those still get down and boogie when called upon. Sounds like you'd be interested in corner horns...they have some of the widest "sweet-spots" I've heard.

I highly doubt that amp is actually capable of that power...

In a big house I really don't know how big of a listening room someone would need to fully appreciate these. We were standing out in the middle of the road, and they kept sounding better Of course, then we could hear the echoes of the sound bouncing off neighbors' houses...whoops

5000 watt amp kit?

Someone could do what the high-end cable manufacturers do and offer a kit in a lockable wooden or metal box Hmm...interesting idea there... -
Make a post in the AA section, someone's bound to notice it AA has been a little busy as of late, so that's probably why they didn't get back to you over the past weekend...

Welcome Shipping what there?

I should try to find some of these, makes the 1005B's we moved look puny http://www.michaelchrist.com/vintage2.html

One of these days, I'd like to get into home theater, I think when it's done right it can be cool, but the problem is I'd need a huge room to make it worthwhile, and if I've spent $5k on two channels so far, even multiplying that by 5 is painful

Indeed. Whether it's new or old, Mac stuff always looks hot. Which is part of why there's such a bad case of boner-ism over all their products online...

I would run multiple runs of Kicker 1/0 wire if you're running it a long way... -

are class a amps really that much better in terms of sq?
JimJ replied to nology's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
If you're talking about a moving car, I'd say that's one broken turntable/phono stage Phono preamps aren't that bad -
They measure those in BTU's my friend. Hell, with the abuse some people give their subwoofers, they too could be measured in BTU's
-
Midbass is all there, but they sound like they drop off getting into subbass...probably strong down to 50Hz or so. The compression drivers are rated at 115dB/W, the midbasses are somewhere just over 100dB/W together... A T-amp would be more power than they need It sounds like one of the original horn diaphragms needs to be redone, but heck, after close to 60 years having 2/3 working is pretty good.
