What have you currently done with the midbasses? Once you start getting the subwoofers playing the higher-frequency kickdrum parts and such, you're liable to have the stage pull back and the sub starts getting localizable...

Isn't that good that it's weak above 50Hz or so? That's where your midbasses ideally should start, anyway...

We're all entitled to an opinion, but I'm just curious what Nick has done that's so egregious?

I don't know much about getting the best of both worlds in the same install, I'd be very hesitant to say that, but the Icon definitely has the potential to either give reference level SQ or competition SPL depending on the enclosure in which it's placed.

Sounds like you do want SPL... The SSD sounds fine for what you're looking for.

You're older than me I can name practical reasons for keeping things stock, can you name a practical reason for going with larger wheels than you currently have?

A dorm is way too small to make 5.1 worth it, IMO. Unless you have an extraordinarily accommodating roommate who'll let you place speakers wherever you want...
