+1 for not having sigs turned on...

Very interesting So it's an idler drive, too? Never messed around with one of those before... As for the phono stage, something 6DJ8-based would be cool, I love what Bottlehead did with their Seduction pre...

I preferred them in the recommended sealed enclosure.

What's the name of the company/guy who made those transmission box
JimJ replied to oldschool4life's topic in General Audio
That's really what it comes down to. I have absolutely no problem with someone trying to make a buck, but whenever interest in "snail shell" or "chambered T-line" or whatever trendy name is brought forth for a very old concept, it always made to sound like it's something revolutionary. I'm sure Pete does very good work, but just remember that it's not unique, and could be done with anyone who wants to look at Martin King's MATHCAD models and do it yourself -
Meh, what's excursion tell you again?

I like how that one sounds, a lot

No, but these did: http://www.audionote.co.uk/products/amps_m...aku-on_01.shtml Had some sort of a hum issue when I went, though. Amps that cost as much as a house and you'd think they'd send someone from Japan to fix the damn things

Hard to say for everything...for visceral impact, nothing can touch the Altec 1005's and 515 simplex cabs, but they needed supertweets, a good source and a football stadium to put them in before they'd get "hi-fi" to me. I heard a pair of Klipschhorns running off of push/pull KT88's that probably would have floored me if they weren't set up on opposite corners of the room Given the right space, those would be high on my all time favorite speaker list... Oh yeah, and this place... Even though I didn't get to hear the $235,000 Audio Note Gaku-Ons, their $3k, 3 watt cousins did a pretty good job too And Western Electric stuff pretty much just kicks ass in all respects.

Does anyone use a grill or cover over their subs?
JimJ replied to jeeper2269's topic in Fi Technical
Get a grill that clears the driver's Xmech; poof, problem solved. -
I'm hoping $50 in gas will get me back

Time to get on the road, heading back to NC for the weekend.
-
That was pretty good

That sounds amazingly awesome, but no, I haven't heard of anything like that here. At the end of freshmen year, I asked my adviser about a welding class and he asked if I wanted to change my major Art Heck, that's how I learned MIG... VT does a bunch of stuff like that, at least large scale projects...Formula team, the trailerable solar home that went to DC, the computer-guided Ford Escape...

NEW LAW!!!! (important read) everyone please
JimJ replied to scizzle's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
After sitting in something like Nick's truck at full volume, there is definitely a difference between pure silence and the kind of pressure differential you'd get in one of these walled-off "daily drivers" -
$1200 for a single layer on the doors would be a waste no matter what the rest of the install is.

JimJ replied to oldschool4life's topic in General Audio
I don't remember off the top of my head, but with all the great modeling tools that have been developed for TL's, it's absurd to keep things as "secret" designs. -

NEW LAW!!!! (important read) everyone please
JimJ replied to scizzle's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
After the rest of the country realized they can't make little holes in pieces of paper to decide the leader of the free world, I think we're ready to give Florida back to Spain. Texas can just go back to being a republic again... -
I'm just a wannabe The actual degree I'll end up with is basically as close to general business/IT as I could get, with a minor in operations management...
-
All we did for process improvement was do a shitload of run and spec charts like that. If only I did the homework
-
I'd imagine for sensors and stuff you'd be concerned about distribution of observations, whether or not things are in control, going out of control, in specification, etc, etc...

NEW LAW!!!! (important read) everyone please

I would argue the increased use of telematics is actually more unsafe, but that could be a whole thread by itself What type of person is being targeted by this law?
