Drives me nuts when it's used in that context, it makes no sense if you think about it.

Ramos and I were just joking with each other, we've already been over this in person

Usually, it means the poster is having a hard time expressing what it is he actually wants

, finding out that last year's monthly fling is now actually married is always funny Never met the guy, but I hope he knows what he's getting into...poor guy

Bush league, indeed.

Mmmm...I always like a stout drunkenness, nothing quite like it... Finishing off the rest of this microbrew... I think it's hilarious that the holding company behind Beck's/Stella Artois is looking into becoming the majority in An-Busch. The Great American Lager, huh.

Rap? Loud SQ? What's louder? I'm confused.

With the exception of SPL competitors, there's really no reason for them to break other than people that buy them often don't have a clue how to run them within their limits. If you know what you're doing you'll have absolutely no problems unless you win the manufacturing defect lottery, in which case you're covered by warranty anyway (BTL exempted)

I'm right handed, I do left-hand retreive as well, it's just easier...right hand just above the reel, left hand swinging the butt end, fliiiiiiinnnnnnnngggg.... You wouldn't want me anywhere near a baitcaster, I'd fuck it up badly

Since when did it specifically say that? In Advanced Discussion, anything is fair game

We like to keep him around though, he's cute at times...

And there's the folks who swear by the 1.5W of 45's, although I haven't heard them yet...they probably would have taken to the Altec multicells nicely...

The monos are slightly more than 5 watts more per side than the EL84's running in triode were...8W vs. 2W... And yeah, there's a difference

Sealed. No question about it.

For $500 I'd rather just go active BA or Focals aren't for everyone, that's for sure. I don't think I could live with the Focal tweet, the Bostons would be a lot more workable but IME they too benefit a ton from actively bi-amping...

To be honest, no clue. The standalone motor pod is going to be spinning @ 300rpm, the platter's at 33.3rpm...the part I haven't figured out yet is the tonearm mount-to-plinth connection...needs to look good and isolate the tonearm from platter/bearing vibration, although with an inverted bearing vibration should be reduced a lot...http://teresaudio.com/t-265.html - that's the kind of style I'm going for, except I'll be using a frosted acrylic platter instead of cocobolo... Only kind of fishing I really do...hope you've got spinning rigs on the longer side

I always like listening to lower-power woofers in the 2-300W range, because these smaller drivers show that especially when musical accuracy is concerned, you don't need the multi-kW behemoths that are becoming commonplace these days. Just 300W and a small sealed enclosure is often times all you need to realistically reproduce most anything you can throw at it. For this review, I wired the voice coils for a combined 8 ohm load, with an Xover point of 50Hz @ 24dB/oct. The enclosure was slightly under 1cF, sealed. Aesthetics: You normally don't expect much in the way of build quality for subwoofers in the SD-1's price bracket. I was pretty surprised on opening the packaging therefore to see push terminals and a basket more substantial than a simple stamped design. Small things like this may not impact the sound of the driver - but not having to find and crimp quick disconnects to mate to the typical terminals you find on subs of this nature is a time saver and is appreciated. The mounting depth lends itself well to mounting in center consoles or other hidden locations. What's to Like: Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um The plucked strings of "Betta Git It In Ya Soul" exemplifies why I love this album; Mingus' playing is superb and a good sub should resolve all the grit and soul of the bass itself. I thought the SD-1 did an admirable job, with a good transient attack and ability to dig surprisingly deep without calling attention to itself. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours (The Chain) While the SD-1 didn't have the jaw-dropping command of this track that I experienced when I listened to the new Magnum, it's no slouch, either The underlying bass line was tight and tuneful, with none of the bloat or lag that afflict inferior drivers. Overall volume was satisfying as well, any fears that I may have had about running out of undistorted output were soon ended with a flick of the volume knob. Tift Merritt - Another Country (Something to Me, Broken) I first heard Tift's new material live at MerleFest earlier this year, and while the acoustics weren't too great there, the studio versions are blissful exceptions to the current "loudness wars". This is not a place for a strong, overpowering subwoofer - it'll sound woefully out of place. The SD-1 provided all that was needed, and the overall effect got my foot tapping quite nicely. You really need to be able to enjoy these without thinking "Oh, that subwoofer sounds good" - the SD-1 allows you do to this easily in its recommended sealed alignment. What's Not to Like: With just a single 10", I felt as if large symphonic arrangements were slightly beyond the grasp of what the SD-1 could do cleanly. With more cone area to work with, I'm sure the individual drivers can handle it well, but with only one I don't think you'd be happy if your usual listening fare is heavy on Orff, Holst, or Tchaikovsky. Overall, if you're looking for a small, unassuming subwoofer to play accurately on a budget, the SD-1 is a solid option. It's not a world-beater by any means, but it's an honest speaker that can be a welcome addition to a reasonable, lower-powered setup.

Italy v. Romania, huh... Should be an interesting game Thanks for the info. It's unlikely I'll go that way, with a motorcycle I can work on it in an enclosed basement, with the car I wouldn't have any covered area to store/work on it. And yeah, finding one that's in good shape may be out of what I'm willing to spend.

For the same price as the BM'er airheads that are for sale around here, I'm seeing a ton of Merc 240D's...even though I don't have an enclosed area that big yet, I'm really tempted to get one as a WVO conversion platform...just to do it and finally go to a different fuel source.

High efficiency anything is very fun. There's a reason why I'm an unabashed Altec VOTT fanboy

With all the mechanical eng./physics people on here, maybe I can get some ideas I'm thinking about building a new plinth & base for the VPI turntable. Currently, it has an outer base to which the motor is bolted to, and there are four Sorbothane pucks (about an inch thick) that the plinth sits on. The idea is that the mounting pucks are the only thing separating the plinth/platter assembly and the motor. I'm wondering if this can be improved upon with a little ingenuity. Currently, the plinth is nothing but 3/4" MDF, I'm wondering if when I build a new one, if sandwiching pieces and adding mass will help.

I'd agree with that. All of what we're dumping into the atmosphere can't be positive, it'll bite us in the ass down the road sometime...

First off, thanks to Jacob of Sundown Audio for letting me review this driver I always like listening to lower-power woofers in the 2-300W range, because these smaller drivers show that especially when musical accuracy is concerned, you don't need the multi-kW behemoths that are becoming commonplace these days. In Virginia they can come onto your own property and cite you for drinking a beer on your porch, if it's in view of a public area...

Your goals are mutually exclusive... Cone size means very little for transient response.
