Building a double layer box - which method is strongest?
JimJ replied to edthedrummer's topic in Fi Technical
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure all your joints are straight, and you have all long sides supported in the middle where they have the most potential to flex. "Window" bracing is invaluable if you're really trying to make the enclosure "dead". -
I'm not a fan of the BP option, you really don't need it if sounding good is anywhere near a priority. The sub gets more than loud enough without even approaching the maximums specified by Fi, definitely past the point of "sounding good" without any cooling options. But tons of people manage to either set things up wrong, or simply ignore the recommendations...if the broken tinsel lead threads are any indication

NEW AMP FOR MIDRANGES.......
JimJ replied to SKEEMASK's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
When you said "PWK" I was confused for a bit there, PWK to me means Paul W. Klipsch Good craftsmanship though! -

The Raam that I applied at 30 degrees in the driveway with Heather's hair dryer with snow falling is still holding strong -
My computer speakers happen to be my main system speakers as well But unless someone's carrying around a condenser mic to record with...not going to sound very good at all

Why is it that all the other ads that are misplaced on CL never get removed, yet I'll put up one and it'll get flagged and taken down within hours? Annoying...

$3700 for a '72 CB750. Wooo, somebody's on some good stuff. Oh, and it comes with five trophies, although he mentions it's won 8. What, I need more lube for the other three? Hope he likes my offer I'd have to think long and hard about owning anything Apple. Maybe a Macbook, but that's about it...

With a little planning and a grinder, you can be surprised at what fits

$25 + whatever shipping is sounds about right, the cheapest I saw going on CL around here were around $30. I don't have the manual or adapter cables, might be able to find the manual downstairs though. Previously owned by Derek over on SIN

I'd start by reading all you can about horn design. Go on DIYAudio and soak up all you can. James Melhuish's excellent single driver site might have had a section on subwoofer horns, it's been a while since I've been there.

It's weird, a lot of us having some trying times with our grandparents lately, all of you guys seemed to have a better relationship with them than I do with mine...

Does anyone need a TI-86 for cheap?
-
When I was in the dorms I had some from a friend who carried it back from South Africa...tried it with the sugar cube and everything, didn't get much of an effect

Decware's Imperial Horn sounds like it'd be perfect for what you want

Fostex FE168 Sigmas in BIB horns...still need to put the final stain/finish on them, but they were at least up and playing when I left for the summer which is all I care about right now.

I'll pay retail for music on physical formats, if I know I'm actually getting a quality product.

I've never heard the newer Mags set up for SPL, so I can't comment on their ability to do that. Being the typical standout SI product that it is, I wouldn't doubt it can in the right environment. That being said, even with the older ones...I've heard them get loud, I've heard them sound good - just not in the same install You can't get more of one without trading off the other...

It contains formaldehyde, not something you want to be ingesting on a regular basis. Sounds like you're taking the proper precautions, though...if you really manage to kick up a lot of dust in the air, a mask or respirator might not be a bad thing to look into.

I know the PG Tantrum 1200.1 I have spews out a lot of EMI, most noticeably around 50MHz. But it's only very apparent in SSB or AM...with the capture effect of FM, it's never actually strong enough to cause breakthrough on broadcast stations (or even in the FM mode on the band where the interference is the most).

Oh, I wasn't even talking about his post, just how my username is still fucked up apparently, but yeah, that was a good one too

Dammit, I thought that was fixed...

You won't hear what it sounds like with any typical camera/microphone setup people are likely to have on here.
