Autotek Amps
JimJ replied to punkmutt1231's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
All relative as to what your definition of "really expensive" happens to be Only if I knew that the previous owner knew what he was doing...which comes up pretty quickly in conversation. If the words "hit", "bump", "bang" happen, I'd probably walk away -
Crazedlist is quite handy
-
Totally dependent on the speakers used...install it for maximum current draw in mind, you may not reach that, you might get close, but it doesn't really matter. I have a feeling I know what you're doing, though, and it's a ghetto idea...
-
I'd have to go with option #2 if this is anything but a dedicated competition vehicle, because I don't like the idea of walled-off vehicles on public roads day after day. I'd imagine it also depends on what classes you plan to compete in, as those two options will place you in very different levels of competition.

Helped a ton on the Fostex's too, they have a very similar basket design, with a very large motor as well.

I liked it, although I thought There Will Be Blood was better...I could see why No Country got the Oscar, though. Which Crash do you mean, the one about race in LA or the one where it's basically non-stop nudity and car wrecks? I thought the former was trying way too hard to push its agenda on people, and I was just confused after the second
-
From what I've heard, they perform better as a dedicated midbass, or at least paired with a tweeter that extends lower. And that basket looks like a definite candidate for clay addition

Gas-tube arc protection? The problem is, a lot of hard-wired protection solutions that last are pretty slow to react to surges. The ones that act fast don't last long and require frequent replacement. And against a power company that doesn't care about its customers or a direct lightning strike, I don't know of anything that's 100% effective But anything's better than nothing...and I've had some friends that have used stuff like that on their phone/data lines to good effect. Think about it this way..in five years, you couldn't pay people to move that TV

Mmm, Logans, I like What's providing the power?
-
That's pathetic. I'm just wondering, is there a vinyl release of this and is it just as bad? In the meantime, thanks for saving my money and/or ratio on this one

I like them better than the previous generation. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the cosmetics of the basket, but...unless you install it inverted, you'll never know However, if you're looking for more SPL (and it sounds like you are)...I'd be wary of the Mag. At least the one I tested didn't like abuse very much. Wasn't an issue for me, but if you're used to flogging the SX you might find the Mag isn't for you...

Until someone shows up with a Tatra. Or hell, a 'Mog if we have a requirement of fitting into a parking space And these are both practical. Unimogs are... Theres a guy that drives one around in the city here, big friggin tires, big deck on it and a picker... I think he spend about half an hour at the gas station though. A 404 'Mog only has slightly more fuel capacity than the E-150 does

don't get me wrong i really like my setup now.... i got a re sx. but i jus wanna see wut else there is What. Thanks If you're happy with an SX, I'd probably look into the MX or TC-3000 he's selling. The SDX's and O's are better suited for SQ... Or perhaps a Fi BL if you're buying new, or Mach 5 SPL sub...

What do you have now, and what don't you like about it?
-
In a passive crossover, it's pre-set, yes. I don't know what you're asking here, but yeah, most passive sets are 2-way There are a few 3-ways out there, but I wouldn't bother with them.

Not if it's set up properly Other than basic installation and maybe a tweeter attenuation selection, it's pre-set. Aiming is the big variable that's left.

Been in the news for a while now. The replacement is going up right next to it.

Advantages of TL and bandpass enclocures?
JimJ replied to imhungnurnot's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Depends on what style of line, how many folds, that sort of thing http://www.t-linespeakers.org Have fun -
Yeah, What.cd is hosed. So much for a backup server.

Noisy people piss me off something fierce.

I'd never consider a transmission line where space may be a concern...they're not exactly small. -
Clamping an amp?
JimJ replied to gearstix's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Pretty much, yes. It's also used to determine your instantaneous impedance...once you've got current and voltage you can do all sorts of handy things with Ohm's Law -

It means using a true RMS clamp meter on the output, measuring current - which along with output voltage allows you to calculate power. You could also measure current drawn @ 12V, if you have a meter that's rated that high. Ideally, for testing amplifiers you want a power source that doesn't fluctuate, and a non-reactive load...the impedance the speaker presents to the amplifier changes with frequency.
