JL Audio Contacts Elemental Designs Over Patent Infringement Concerns
JimJ replied to Audio Junkies's topic in General Audio
I detect a hatred for eD from many members. Wondering why? The short version is that Ben Milne is a jakcalope. The long version will take some time to read If you're not a member on carstereos.org...join. -
With a tuning that high, it's likely you won't hear the "real low lows" anyway.

Unless I see pictures, I still don't buy it.

JL patents pretty much everything they do...it's a fair bet that basket is protected from others using it -
Doesn't matter if it's not finished, we've all seen incomplete installs before. I just want to see what it looks like now...

I wonder how many threads are on ICIX about it? -
cooling your amps

Darvex.com, IIRC, sells Stinger horizontal fans...to move air across the top of the heatsink. Computer case fans are another idea, maybe from newegg.com? I'm sure someone who knows more about computer DIY'ing can give more places. -
Personally, I would run from anyone who actually talked like that in person.

I meant that in the context of "good at sounding like ass really loudly" Same reasoning behind using Altec Voice of the Theater stuff now for stereo Won't run into problems with loss of dynamics or compression...

I want to see pictures Pardon me if I'm a tad skeptical...

Sundowns don't have anywhere near the reliability issues experienced with the Z1 either

Nope. Nothing that says you have to run at the driver's listed RMS rating...

I know I have a car audio addiction when......

Indeed -
Based on that, I'd go with the BL. If it was the other way around, I'd go with the Q.

There are factors that make some drivers better than others, but it mostly comes down to moving a ton of air and having the right enclosure for the right space.
-
It's going to depend on the enclosure it's placed in, as to whether it reproduces the "lows" well...kind of a vague term. Nothing that says a good SPL driver has to sacrifice low end extension.

And to think I just watched Deliverance last night on nightshift .... I go to WV too much to watch that movie

A DMM won't tell you what the shape of the waveform is - and it won't show you how much current is actually going into those leads. All you're getting is a voltage reading that may hide a more serious problem.

On a very intuitive level, more magnets are going to provide a stronger magnetic field. Whether or not that's a good thing depends on the motor design. You could have five stacked magnets but if you reach other limits of the design with only two, the extra are just adding weight.
-
I don't know if you had a badly clipped signal. But neither do you, unless you've put a 'scope on the amp's output. Obviously something put a lot of current into that driver, and it's likely to happen again...

Personally, I'd go after Pierce. No sense in paying for something that you can't use. I don't want to speak for Fi, but I highly doubt they'll sell you an individual VC. A full set of soft parts I could see, but parting things out isn't very economical.

Sometimes, you need to be the more mature one and just ignore it. Doesn't matter who's right and who's wrong.
-
Nah, I don't think so. Yet.

Is a link really necessary, with some of the threads that have been going on here?
