Whhhhhhhhhy Do that and your chances of having a coherent soundstage basically go out the window.

28Hz isn't "very low", not in a home anyway... But it should work for you.
-
Why two sets? $2000 is a heck of a budget if you did the normal thing and only ran one set... Components = midbasses + tweeters + possibly midranges
-
The BM proto is wanting to be played...I can hear it...play me...play me...
-
Biggest thing that's going to limit you is budget...how much are you looking to spend on midbasses and tweeters?
-
Nope, I don't know of any CD players that play FLAC directly. But you can convert them to a format that is readable and burn it that way.
-
What kind of music? Remember that you're not going to get a cabin boost of the low frequencies at home like you would in a vehicle.
-
Doesn't sound like this is home theater at all...not with 98% music anyway. I'd recommend a sealed enclosure for a single MJ, that way you could get a very flat response and good low end extension, if you had the budget for more I'd say go IB with them.

Sounds like you've got a ground loop...there are adapters that you can plug into the cable line to break the loop there, or you can try it on the AC side. As for your second question, you can run a plate amp using the high level inputs off the amp directly. Although if you have a 5.1 receiver (which I would assume since you said this was an HT setup), it would already have a low-level sub output.

When I auditioned one I was impressed. With about 800W into their recommended sealed enclosure, it was going down into the low 20's with authority, while being very accurate and easy to blend with the front stage... They're a strong contender in their price range, IMO.

BL or BTL? I'd rather have a Q or XXX and have half the power, but that's just me...
-
I'm actually curious about how this sounds, I'm thinking that two of these mated with a solid midrange would make for one hell of a floorstanding tower...

My grandmother on my dad's side has lymphoma, it sounds horrible but it'll be merciful if she doesn't make it another year. They've just been in absolute denial of the whole thing, I think they've been in for treatment once but never followed up anything. They've been dysfunctional for so long, they just can't deal with the situation at all now. Stay strong, and it sounds like your family does that well. The alternative is a lot worse, believe me.

I'm not a Power User anymore, so I can't do invites...but I'm sure somebody else can.

We supposedly have an AES chapter here at Tech, and we had some interesting alumni (George Short of North Creek was a Hokie), but I don't think it's been active for a few years now.

Welcome to the dark side, by the way

First thing is to start breaking free about thinking about comp sets alone...if you're starting from scratch, no reason not to piece together individual drivers and go active Learning about those requires doing a lot of reading on various forums about what people are hearing, but most of all, listening to as much stuff as you can for yourself. There's no substitute for that, and it never ends... Would depend on the drivers in question, and how you wanted things to look. In some installs I might want a single 15" for aesthetic reasons, in other cases the 3 10's would fit better with the scheme of things. If you're using capable woofers I wouldn't see a problem with either.

Missed the BM today, going to be getting it tomorrow I guess... Not like I have an enclosure here to test it anyway...

(all the cool kids are)

Do it. Use some of those blank hard drives you said you had and go FLAC
-
Yes. If you were looking at a more musical application I'd recommend the Q.

Pretty much. I'm trying to get everything organized with ~200 or so albums, if I don't it's going to impossible when I add 200 more or so next week...

Foobar2k, a really, really, really, really configurable media player. I'm just getting annoyed because there's something up with the tags or cue file on some of the torrents, they're showing up multiple times as different artists...blah
