? Not following you here. All you need are two channels of amplification plus one for the sub, unless you're doing 5.1 surround or bi-amping - neither of which fall into the "cheap" realm. Bingo. New & cheap = mass market plastic junk that'll break in a year. Can't help you there You could probably find a mid to late '70s integrated amp on Ebay for not a lot either...something like a Marantz 1030, NAD 3020, etc...Pioneer, Rotel, Sansui and others all made really heavy metal beasts during that time that'll outlast a plastic Onkyo or Sony heap built today. And they look a lot more....conventional than a converted console amp. Good read on speakers that'd work no matter what you get for an amp: http://boozhoundlabs.com/ml-tqwt/

What I'd do if I had to build a computer system on a strict budget... Fostex FE166E's in Martin King-designed mass loaded TL's, as shown here: http://www.quarter-wave.com. Sold at Madisound, like $120 for the pair IIRC...plus MDF cost. Used Magnavox or Philips 6V6, 6L6, or EL84 console stereo amp, can find one on Ebay or at fleamarkets when people get rid of vintage stereo consoles. Usually all they need is a replacement of the electrolytic caps and a power switch and they're good to go. Should be able to find one for around a hundred bucks in ready to play shape. 6-25 watts depending on what kind you get. Plate amplifier from Apexjr.com, under a hundred. Then use an MLI or two for subbass, run it right off the output of the amp using high level inputs. Would be one heck of a musical system for less than most people pay for utter shit...

A backpack leaf blower is the world's worst massage device. My neck and shoulders are not liking me at the moment.

first transmission line with usd 1260 subs

Unless I'm missing something, you've just calculated a box that won't fit in your available space...that's not a lot of room for anything, I think you'd be better served with a more traditional bass reflex or sealed. -
Any particular reason for a single sub? If it's pure output you're looking for, I'd rather go with two $150 drivers in a box tuned higher...something like a new Tempest or Dayton HO 15" comes to mind. Both the SSD and Icon are fine speakers, but cone area is tough to argue with...

Going to get some dinner, then drive back to NC.

Eh, he gets a pass from me because he's not a native speaker Now it's the people in the US using "ur" and "imma" that really should know better...

Is that the result of global warming? The Guinness reservoir goes down, people can't water their lawns anymore...

Listening to the complete set of Beatles remasters I got from a friend, the Dr. Ebbetts mono ones...I think they're the best version I've heard

In NC for the night anyway. Going back to the 'burg in the AM Got a little work done on the BIB's tonight, but ran out of time before I started getting sleepy...which means router work waits until tomorrow. I don't feel like hunting for a finger... Somewhere around here I've got a little trim router that'd be perfect for a flush...hmmm...

Refoaming is pretty straightforward, Parts Express and other places sell surrounds and dustcaps...at the last AudioKarma.org meet down here we did a couple 10's in a pair of Acoustic Research towers that had been rotted to hell...let the glue dry overnight, next day they were playing DSTOM as good as new Now, you could always replace the drivers with something else, but then you're opening the door to crossover mods and before you know it you have a totally different set of speakers on your hands

Too bad it changes nothing... People that believe the hype start to get defensive even when the threat of double blind testing comes up... Actually tube amps can benefit a lot from a good line conditioner if the local power sucks. Power transformers sometimes have lamination rattle from bad AC, it sounds like a mechanical hum coming directly from the transformer. A line conditioner takes care of this issue.

If it's an Excursion, it's a large SUV... I've got something with an equivalent cabin size to an Excursion, I've noticed the same thing you did - sub firing back just sounded better. But I'm not chasing numbers on a meter, and the few times I've TL'ed it, the configuration that sounded best to me did the worst for pure SPL.

14-12awg should be fine.

Perfect for aspiring roadies fixing guitar amps, audiophool dweebs and Third World aircraft mechanics.

I remember showing some schematics to some EE friends @ NCSU, and them not following what I was talking about...granted it wasn't solid state, but c'mon That's what they should have - basics of vacuum tube theory

I can think of a lot of speakers, even in passive sets, that I'd choose before those RSD's. The build quality of that level of Hifonics amp would turn me off to it. Just not very good. You need at least a minimal level of sound deadening...enough to do a few layers on the front doors and trunk lid, at the least.

should be a discount if they spelled "sence" wrong. Bad Chinese quality control Loew Pricez Evurydaye!

*shrugs* He's just....umm...unique. Next he'll be asking why Focal or the like won't give him an SQ sponsorship...

Good for you.
