    Welcome to the IHoP

Better than the "We don't trust you so give us money" approach taken by Audiokarma... One of these days I'm going to have to have someone explain to me what is up with the bastardization of a "daily driver". As if I'm automatically supposed to know what that means when it's mentioned in a post. I understand SPL competition, I get Bassrace...but that's not what these people are building. They're just building things that do nothing but disturb the peace of those around them, and ruin their hearing. The one time I've been in a 150+dB environment, I couldn't think of anything else but getting out of there...and these people are driving around like that? Aren't there enough asshats that can't deal with their vehicles with no distractions involved? Just strikes me as an odd, damaging, and irresponsible thing to be doing...*shrugs*

    Welcome to the IHoP

Is it bad when you're shopping around for a setup that you know has no chance in hell of fitting in your apartment? At least I won't have to worry about not having good sound when I come down here, I guess...

what are you thankful for today?

I'm just glad to be here, period. 2007 sucked in a lot of ways, but it could have been worse.

Probably see a lot of Audio Research stuff too, ARC's based out of Mpls too...

    Buying CDT CL-61A

Passive sets under $200, for the most part, scare me.

    What ohm to order?

    2's.
  8. JimJ

    type r components

Neither is a bad choice, but the amp you have now is fine, it's just the speakers that are subpar.
  9. JimJ

    type r components

You can't, and the Type R's are so hideous for midbass it probably won't matter anyway. Don't get caught up in impedance, plenty of people use 8 ohm drivers and still have plenty of output

how long will a 15'' BTL go??

I think some of the terms TTB throws around are ridiculous...and there's nothing proprietary about what they're doing...but the craftsmanship I've seen from there has been solid. They don't need to have heard of the sub or not, Fi's recommended enclosure specs are listed in the Technical subforum here, just have them use those and you'll be fine.

how long will a 15'' BTL go??

That's Sundown They'll be fine as long as you know what you're doing. But honestly, cruising around with an actual 6kW in output is going to make you deaf shortly. Have you sat in a vehicle like that for a length of time, and tried to do a complicated task like driving?

    Is is true?

No. Fs is simply free air resonance.

Guy with the Maggies wants $150, I have no idea what model they are or what their condition is, but that can't be that bad of a price Asking for more info now...might be on the hunt for a receiver or integrated amp here shortly...

Think I sold one of the antennas I was getting rid of Pocketed $200, w00t local pickup is nice

how long will a 15'' BTL go??

If you're sensible with it, they'll last you forever. Sure, there may be a couple failures out there that are manufacturing glitches, but the overwhelming majority of failures you see on here are because someone was "bumping" or "street beating" or "ground pounding" or whatever the term for it is now and got stupid with the volume knob. Or just didn't know how to set it up in the first place. But people's stupidity isn't the fault of the speaker... During the 12 Challenge, the only way we could get the BTL to break was to literally unload it below tuning with 10kW on it...I still shake my head at people that destroy them in non-competition environments, that never should happen unless you're trying for it.
  16. Wrong end of the spectrum, those are above human hearing

Naturally aspirated beer SS, can't afford another amp project right now. Probably just go over to my friend with the wall of Advents and ask if he's got any Marantz's that are going unused
  18. Probably using the same boards 90% of the rest of the market is using...

    Welcome to the IHoP

Mmmm, maggies. I don't even have anything that'll power them, but I figure if they're moving and they haven't sold yet his SO would practically pay me to haul them away

Pair of Maggies for sale locally on CL, guy is moving and clearing everything out... We'll see if he takes $100 for 'em...

    15" or 18" driver...so confused

If you're already at 139 and not satisfied, you'll need to do more than just get to 140, you're going to have to get in the mid 140's at least. Be proactive and look into hearing aids now That's pretty much anything on the market.

    15" or 18" driver...so confused

The 18" would require a larger enclosure...that's about the only possible downside to it. Nothing wrong with more cone area.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Looks like it's in nice shape
  25. Given the right install tricks, I bet you could get those Polyglasses to go low enough that you wouldn't need to cross the sub over that high
