So the folks get home last night, I had the Maggies playing upstairs...now they want a pair Fuck.
-
Nothing I'd use. I'd find a quality used amp before any of those. Again, something like a PG 1200.1 or Cadence A7+HC would be less than that and be a better value.
-
Any home improvement store...a DMM is a required tool if you're going to do anything DIY in audio... Does the amp go into protection when it shuts off? If not, you've got a loose wire somewhere...
-
All they need are a set of new socks and a light sanding of the wood pieces and they'll look basically new...for 30-year old speakers, I'm not complaining

Well, I've got the Maggies playing upstairs... Interesting. I honestly was pretty surprised at the amount of midbass those things can produce, I'm sure with the taller versions like Ryan & Lukas have it does better, but even the smaller ones do a fair job. They didn't do so hot on AC/DC, but then again I remember hearing "Live Wire" on bi-amped Altecs that were a good 20dB/W higher in efficiency than these They're a dream for acoustic/folk. Which is good because I have a lot of it

Let me give you something to read, then I saw one of those amps fail in person, shot DC into the sub...while I'd buy older Cadence in a heartbeat, I'm not convinced about those new ones...
-
No way to answer that, sorry.
-
I definitely wouldn't have any input into that, the last few shows I went to the average age was at least a decade older than me I don't know what AFI is, either :shrugs:

Something like a PG Tantrum 1200.1 would give you a lot of flexibility in impedances, but for a new amp the SAZ-1500D is a solid choice.
-
What's a decent price for an Adcom GFA-535 II? The guy that I'm picking the Maggies up from has one that's for sale also, although if I'm buying a new amp I kinda want more than just 100W @ 4...

I did it outside in December when it was snowing, but I don't recommend that

You can configure Foobar to do pretty much anything you want, but it's nowhere near as easy-to-use as Itunes...heck of a lot easier on resources, though. It's a Microsoft product, you really expected otherwise? I give up on that asshat. Some people are just too dumb to be reasoned with.

Obviously you didn't read what I wrote in your first thread, so let me condense it for you: People are stupid. They do a lot of things to speakers that they shouldn't do, get on the internet, and bitch about it. Meanwhile, for every one problem thread you see on here, there's probably five or ten users that are happy because they know the limits of their gear and how to use it. As for the warranty, I don't know what to tell you. You're covered in case of UPS goons (IIRC), and the lower lines have a solid warranty. If that still bothers you, Wal-Mart sells a fine line of speakers, and I hear their warranty coverage is quite good.
-
You're right, because that's impossible for us to answer.
-
I answered this in the first thread you made. Not sure why the two additional threads were needed.
-
IIRC, it's not recommended for dedicated SPL vehicles, which it doesn't sound like you're building.

I just haven't been really impressed with anything I've heard in passives under that price. CDT's are...blah. Not enough midbass for me and lackluster tweets. Orion P6.2's were decent in the midbass, nothing special, but had tweets that would take your ears off from ten feet away. Same with MBQ's. And Focals are a love/hate thing, there's no middle ground. Boston Pros require so much amplifier power that they negate the "budget" in the first place Madisound used to have a sub-$200 passive set, but I don't know if they still offer it anymore. When you can get a pair of Vifa or Seas paper cone 6.5's and silk domes for well under $200, bi-amping really kicks passives in the ass in this price range, it's not even fair.

Maggie SMG's. Even if the cosmetics are lacking (hard to tell in that crappy pic if that's camera dirt or speaker dirt), could always get them rebuilt later

Almost as useless as the phrase "on music" is around here... On music...well, thanks for clearing up the confusion Using what? Dylan? J.S Bach? Nepalese monk chanting? I don't know why I'm in this kind of mood today...oh well.
