Just out of curiosity, did you compare equally-tested installs in a very similar acoustic environment? Just because something "knocks harder" (whatever that means) in one install does not hold true universally.

1) They can help shape the frequency response if you have some conditions that mess around with FR, they can improve the overall soundstage. Used with a real time analyzer, you can make the FR of your system to be whatever you want it to be, from flat to gradually sloping to whatever works in your particular install. 2) Usually right after the preamp and before the crossovers & power amplifiers...

When I get my amateur radio license renewed, I really want to see if I can get WO0T or W0OT.

Just wait until you get those BIB's done, it'll blow your mind about what cone area can actually do given the right enclosures
-
Sealed, but you might not like that...

If only those terms actually had a single, meaningful definition we could all use... Personally, 35Hz is way too high for any kind of music, but my definition of music is probably a lot different than yours.

I preferred the SE's sealed, but then again I prefer most drivers sealed

american bass amps
JimJ replied to bodybuilding90's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Actually, in that setup I believe it was both... -
I've never been a fan of the BP option...
-
Aren't you already using crossovers, at least passives? All the passives I've seen have been well above the midrange...

Just listening to the SMG's tonight. They should be sold tomorrow, had a guy interested in picking them up. On to bigger and better ones, maybe

Wonder what would have happened if I wore that to when Bill showed up at Tech before the primary
-
The easiest way would be to simply adjust the head unit or crossover if you had one

american bass amps
JimJ replied to bodybuilding90's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
The one setup I heard VFL's in sounded like ass, but I'm not sure if that was a function of the amp itself or the way he had them set up...I would hope it's the latter, because there were definitely some distortion issues in those... -
That will be very hard to find a DC power supply that's worth it for that amperage for under $50. I picked up a used Astron 20A continous supply, but it's pretty rough cosmetically and it wasn't under $50 IIRC. I'm sure your parents would just appreciate it if you just got a good pair of headphones

They really are a waste of money if you're looking for quality sound.

Sounds like a good law...

Run the XXX's in tiny sealed enclosures...would solve the "upper bass" nicely...

adding a litte SQ sound to my BL madness
JimJ replied to jonbearsmt's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
It's not the cone area so much as the "keeping up" part You can have 8 15's and have it perfectly musical (assuming a flat FR), in fact there's benefits to that arrangement, but as soon as soon as the woofers come before the rest of the system you've lost the chance to have "SQ". As far as the original poster's question, I'd second the horn recommendation. Some good 8's or 7's and a pair of HLCD's (real HLCD's, Image Dynamics or USD's instead of these Florida-style PA messes) would provide more volume than is tolerable, and might even have a chance at a decent soundstage if set up properly because you wouldn't have the same frequencies coming from different places at once -
This is for the home, yes? So far you've just listed companies...no products...

...Darwin? I couldn't help it

Which is where it's going so far this semester...
