Product humpers get annoying, real fast

It's just a meaningless term. What exactly do you mean by that? If you take SPL to mean the overall output level of everything, not just subwoofers, then there's no reason why SQ can't have lots of output. So there's no need for a "PL" or whatever on the end of it. If you have 20 years in this hobby like you said, I'm amazed at some of the generalizations you've made in basically all of your threads.

What was wrong with your old setup? I think what you're planning will be a downgrade, IMO...

I've done jack shit for school work this weekend. Which means tomorrow night is going to be an all-nighter to get it done. Oh well, it's not like I have anything important to be awake for on Tuesday.

Between the two, I'd choose the Icon. So? That's perfect. Set the amp to a little below maximum unclipped output. Stop listening to them, because they're clueless on that point.

There's one whole part of that that's glaringly obvious, and has nothing to do with power - high efficiency 12" midbasses and USD horns are extremely efficient, and can make do with very little in amplifier power to get earsplitting volume - adding more power simply provides even more headroom. I used to have a pair of Klipsch floorstanders that were "rated" for 100W, I sent them 8 watts per channel...and I can tell you they were nowhere near clipping. In the triode world power levels of 3 watts or less are common, and there are people that have some serious unclipped output - the key is very high efficiencies That's why I cringe when I hear the "more power is better" thing...because often times improving the efficiency of the entire system is more effective Well, that does depend on the application

Sounds good to me -

The Kodas sound very, very, very, very nice when run actively That's what Nick was using in his 'Teg when I heard it...I was very impressed. More midbass than his doors could handle at the time -
Looks too pretty as it is for an SPL build

http://www.t-linespeakers.org A transmission line would be sweet for that As a bonus, while they're usually tall they don't take up a lot of floor space, especially considering the low-end response you get.

I really want to hear what these Altecs are going to sound like. Pictures will be taken...

No money. My finances went to shit in the few weeks since I thought I was able to...I'm still selling my SMG's tomorrow, but that money is going towards a Knukonceptz order and that's all I can swing.

I don't know the cost of getting it done, but if you have a Rhinoliner dealer near you that may be an option. After seeing some enclosures over on Forceaudio that were done that way, it seems a heck of a lot better than a spray-can job. Or maybe there's a way to apply it with a spray gun and compressor, I'm not sure of the specs they use, though...

I didn't get a PM, I guess I don't know about the Fi sub I really should stay out of that section...
-
Got a ton of filling/sanding to do this weekend @ Dave's, but the BIB's are done...kinda Ramos, what grits do you have for that Mouse thing? There's only one station here worth listening to, it's a shame too as there are some absolutely gorgeous tubed tuners out there, just nothing worth using them for anymore.
-
Indeed. Some crazy people even use them for more than just subwoofer amplification
-
Are the "skwels" in Michigan really this bad?
-
Does it really matter? Even if you used a professional boom mic, there's nothing in a typical "bass vid" that's telling you anything of use that a microphone would help with...
-
I would love to hear one, got one available? There are a few subs I've heard that top the Mag, but you're getting a fractional increase in performance IMO and spending double or triple to get there.

Hifonics Haters

Sundown's not the only choice out there for a great amp, but they're pretty damn bulletproof from what I've seen, it would be hard to go wrong with one -
They're what you use to play records...goes on the end of the tonearm...you don't need them for home theater, that's why I was confused Rotel, Parasound, Acurus, Adcom, and others all make amps that will fit that budget and power level. I would lurk on Audiogon.com and see what you find

I can't understand you.
