Burb build. 6- xfire 18s 6-ampere audio 3800s quad singer hair pins
Billy Jack replied to Kylar96's topic in Build Logs
I can't wait to finish up my spl rig. If I could ever get another crescendo 3500 to match the one I got I could but every time I check there sold out or on back order. I'm about to give up ever getting another one and sell this one and buy 2 ampere audio amps instead. I have 2 sundown team subs and really need more power. I also have a sq setup in my new car that's all JL and alpine. 13w7's, HD1200/1's 137bt hu JL C2 61/2's and 6x9's and a alpine amp running them. Plus one 1000 watt capable battery in the trunk.1- 93 replies

Need Help for a box : Orion HCCA 12"
Billy Jack replied to Notorious97200's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
You know ssa sells box blueprints right? -
Even I know that much. I would never use anything over a 8" and if I could help it I would stick to 61/2's.

Got some new SQ goodies for the new SPL Build.

Yea I miss my alpine that had all the time alignment and eq adjustments. I can't remember what the number on it was but at the time it was the most expensive model alpine sold. Now I have the 137bt it's ok but doesn't have the equalization my old one had. I want to go active but I'm about afraid I would make it sound worse then my passive system instead of better. But then again if your gonna learn and grow you gotta take a leap of faith some times. At tax time in gonna get a real outboard amp for my highs and mids and maybe a mini DSP or I might try the JL just to keep everything matching. Ain't made my mind up yet I'm pretty happy right now but would like a little more oomph. -

Yea I have never used a DSP so I'm a little ignorant on the subject. My experience with equalization goes up to electronic crossovers of the 90's and honestly I didn't exactly know what I was doing then I mostly played with them until I got the sound I wanted and called it a day. My eq curves usually ended up looking like a U on the settings that's where I always found the best sound. Some of it I do understand though like time alignment you set it to have all speakers reach your ear at the same time or atleast that's how I understood it. I have been reading up on the subject some trying to figure it out. -

80 bands not 10. It has 8, 10 band eq's for a total of 80. -

Yep that's it the twk 88 and twk d8. If someone isn't familiar with tuning a active system, they can just pop in the tuning cd and it gives you the step by step setup procedure. -

The new JL audio DSP is nice it comes with 3 levels of tuning from beginner to pro. I think I'm gonna go active and get myself one since they made it so easy. -
Ssa sells box designs for $30-$35 I think. That or use a box calculator and type in your numbers and model it and see what you can come up with. If it where me I would just pay to have them draw you up some blue prints then you know it's right.
-
Yea JL made going active super easy. The DSP comes with a mic and it can set its self up automatically if your not familiar with how to do it yourself. Or if you are more inclined to do it yourself you can just hook it up to a pc and do it yourself.

What does fi call these subs now. I noticed on their site they don't have the btl anymore was it replaced with the team sub or the BL?
-
That's cool. I just didn't know how to take you, I honestly just thought you where deliberately trying to piss me off, but after reading enough of these old post I can see that's not nessesarily true. I talk rather bold myself it's not that I'm an arseho or anything I'm just blunt and straight to the point. And as far as the btl DD thing im just assuming any sub that loud probably around 150db, isn't gonna be very sq oriented. I have always heard from everybody that there is no sound quality over 150db just really, really, loud music. But I guess just like amplifier head room you could turn it down and get sq honestly don't know.
-
No I never said they where musical, I actually said there both equally i'll equipped to play music. One really know better then the other.

I'm so glad I was born a huge corn fed mule my friends always done steroids, supplements, and anything they could and could never match my size and strength but I was a rodbuster for years so nothing gets you in shape like lifting steal for a living. I did use some of their createen and it helped me by getting over soreness quicker.

I think part of this is not being able to understand someone's tone as its all in text and what might seem agressive to you, or smart ass to me, is really not but it just sounds that way in text. That and I'm new here and just don't know how to take you guys. I'm really not trying to mess with anyone and do wanna learn so I know what I'm doing. Or am I wrong and M5 is a dick. Lol
-
I'm not trying to pass on any bad info, if I say something that is wrong it's because when I asked for the right answer all I got was another question or a smart ass comment so how is it we learn? I have read and read and tried to learn as much as I could about the technical side of audio but some things I just don't understand and need it broke down for me. Really I don't care as much about brands as I do customer service and reliability and ever product I have had from Jl was top notch and lasted for years. And I can't say that for a lot of other brands. Now I'm not referring to ssa I know you guys also make good products to but some of the cheaper stuff just ain't worth buying to me. I don't care to pay for something but I want it to last and do what it's supposed to.
-
Arron you seem like a real good guy, but why is M5 such a smart ass to people who are just trying to learn. I was always told there is no dumb questions just dumb answers. I have read pages and pages of this forum and it ain't just me he is a dick to almost everybody who doesn't agree with him. If someone doesn't agree with me I just say ok everybody has there own opinion. Does he just hate noobs or something.
-
You where talking about yourself huh. You just said you owned JL so apparently your the guy wasting money on JL for your boat.
-
There's that JL hate I knew it. And I like JL I have been running their subs since the 90's. Ow and they hold a whole hell of a lot more titles then ssa. I actually like both brands but I'm smart enough to know JL is where ssa wishes they where now. And last time I checked DD had quiet a few titles their selves so to me it sounds like your talking out your ass.

Ow no doubt keeping the 18" would be better but he wants his trunk back and a smaller box and sub.

I never said they where the same as sundown or DD I said ssa was using a lot of the same parts as fi and soundquebed looked like a copy of the DD subs. Now that I think about it one of the American bass subs looks just like the DD to. And I know for a fact that some of the amps are they same boards just open them up and look there identical with a different name on them. I have even seen them in raw for from the build houses in Korea you used to be able to buy them from zenon with no name on them but the dealers complained and now you gotta buy them from the middle man. And I'm not saying there all the same obviously there not but there is a lot of brand whoring going on but as long as they make good products with tight tollerences it's ok.

A DD is just as musical as a btl. Not that either are great for the task but one is no better at it then the other anyways.

Well seeing as most of these company's now just use the same off the shelf parts to build most subwoofers it probably want matter. Their is probably what 10 different motors, 10 different cones, spyders, and voice coils used to build dozens of the same woofer with a different company's logo stuck on it. Same with amps. It's not a coincidence most of these woofers look like cookie cutter versions. Now honestly tell me I'm wrong and fi ain't the same subs as ssa or soundquebed and just a copy of a DD or a number of amps like DC, ampere, and several more ain't the same board with a new case and logo.
