shizzzon can shime in more on this, they are retooling the VCM's if I'm not mistaken, so that when insufficent amperage is coming from the alt, it will raise the engine's rpm. Or something to that fact. Look for something around Feb 2013.

I would suggest doing all of the ideas you stated before. big 3, more batts, and h/o alt, with some 2/0 welding cable. -
