So I purchased everything I need except for wiring install kit for the amp and sub. I have the RCA outputs on the back of my cd deck, since it isnt stock, so I would not need an inline converter. My amp is a 600 watt 2-channel and my sub is a 10" 1000 Watt max 4 ohm speaker. What wiring kit would anyone suggest I get, since I am doing the install by myself?

I recently purchased a new car, one that I would actually be proud to put some money into and I am looking into buying some subwoofers for some extra thump when it comes to my car's audio system. I am on a tight budget knowing I am a college student. I would not mind having two subwoofers, but I know that would be extra money, so even just one sub with an amp would make me very happy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good sub and amp. I dont need top of the line equipment, I just want a sub with some good sound that wont hurt my pocketbook too much. Thanks guys!

I found the VA1400 for sale brand new on Ebay...I read something that said they are out of production, but if its a good amp I might want to jump on it. I did not realize how many different brands and styles of amps are out there...I am in a little over my head right now. What about Profile amps? Are they POS's too? haha

I have looked at every amp yall have suggested...but they are all higher than $150 and i cant currently afford that...and who knows when i will be able to, and until then dont want to have a sub just sitting in my closet b/c i cant afford an amp. The one I looked at that was suggested was the Blaupunkt VA1400...I can afford that one, but no one else has really said anything about that particular amp.

Alright, so i am still looking for an amp since i didnt do a great job of choosing a sub. I need a minimum of 300 RMS at 4 ohms for my amp. I found a Kenwood KAC-7204 that has 500 watts at 4 ohms ( with a bridged output). It is not used, its brand new. Can anyone tell me if this would be a good buy before i waste more money? haha

Thanks! If you could recommend a specific amp, I would be eternally grateful! haha

Kenwood KFC-W2511...and I know its not great, but I have heard good things about it

Cool....well I am going with a Blaupunkt THA1350...unless anyone objects

Ok so I am getting closer to finding an amp! haha Ok so i have started looking at Blaupunkt, but have never heard of them ( no surprise) I found some on ebay...once again I am going to list a few and tell me what yall think haha Blaupunkt THA2125 Blaupunkt THA1350 Blaupunkt PCA1300 And I have a question...the sub I have is 4ohms...do I need to get a 2ohm or 4 ohm amp? or does it matter as long as the RMS is equal too or greater than my amps RMS?

How about a Jensen XA2250?
-
Haha Jim right now anything is an option...i am highly inept with car audio equipment and what the good brands are....could you suggest a solid brand that is not super great, but will get me by for now? and something not to expensive? it would help me out alllooottt right now haha

So I am definately getting good use out of the forum and all of the guys out there whose knowledge encompasses mine haha but i have been looking for amps still, and I found a few and instead of listing links, i was just going to list brand and style so let me know what yall would recommend, if any....just think, you are helping to save a guy new to the world of car audio from breaking the cardinal rule....buying crappy equipment that sucks haha so here they are Dual XIA4225 800 Watt RMS 2 Channel Amplifier - CEA Pioneer GM-3200T - Amplifier - 2-channel - 120 Watts x 2 Dual XPA6100 600 Watt Mosfet Amplifier PIONEER MONO GM-7300M ( this one looked good to me, but then again, i dont know how reliable Pioneer amps are)

Ah...Well I have spent the last three days trying to learn as much as I can about Subs and Amps, but its obvious I have a lot more to learn haha Thanks guys for helping not make some huuggeee mistakes haha

Is this amp too good to be true? I mean, i know it would power a 10" sub with 100 watt and 300 RMS, right? Would it be a bad buy? http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-LEGACY-2000-WATT-2...id=p3286.c0.m14

That's great news.. I didnt feel like droping $200 on install...ok so I bought a Kenwood 10" 1000 Watt amp...I know its not great, but it is a good started sub...Any particular amp anyone would suggest. The sub has a RMS of 300 watts with 4 ohms. I just need an amp to handle that....down the road I will purchase a better amp and sub when the pocketbook allows it. An amp for $100 to $150 is around my budget. I know that wont get me a great amp, but even a good used one would be fine with me. I appreciate all ya'lls help guys!

Are there any specific install kits that ya'll would recommend? And I talked to one of my buddies and he said Best Buy charged him $175 to install his sub and amp, plus install kit and a converter for his stock deck...Anyway, I was wondering how hard it is to install a sub and an amp on my own. If it is not to difficult, I would much prefer to install it on my own.

Any good websites you can recommend for used equipment?

So I was looking around and found two different subs. They are good for my price range considering I need an enclosure and an amp. I would like everyones input on them though, considering the fact I am not real knowledgeable about car audio equipment. This first one is 2 Dual subs with a box, are these reliable? http://www.amazon.com/Dual-XOBP12D-Illumin...5790&sr=8-1 The second one is just a single Kenwood, which is fine with me that it is just one. Which would be a better buy, if either? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N2N24...;pf_rd_i=507846

Ok thanks for the recommendations. I found an Alpine amp for around $100. Anything good about Alpine subs? What would ya'll recommend as far as amps go just for a single sub with around 1000W. I also found some subs on Ebay. They were called Blue Wave subs....anyone ever heard of them? Here is the link for those if anyone wants to look at them http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=350099692760

For now, I am talking just sub and an amp...I will build on the system later when I have more money...And I would consider my music taste very eccletic...anything from Dave Matthews, to Underoath, to some occasional rap...all stuff with good bass rhythms, I think haha
