I cut two fingertips off today

My right ring finger and pinky are naturally taking the place of my index and middle, so I can still type and write fairly good believe it or not!! Thanks for the replies guys. Changing the dressings makes me lightheaded, just seeing a body part of yours in a condition like that is enough to turn the hardest of stomachs over... hurts like hell. But the saw blade was only sticking up about 1/2" so that's what probably saved my ass (or my fingers!) Doc gave me some Darvocet and Tramadol, the trams don't do much for me so I'm going to take a Darv and see if I can go to work for a little while today. Got a follow up appointment in 10 days. The doc also told me I was lucky, as he has people come into his office ever so often with their fingers in ziploc ice baggies! I'll keep you all updated.

Got me a Chevy hot rod

Well, sorta. My friend told me about a '70 Chevy C10 pickup that a buddy of his was selling for $500, so I figured while I had a little extra money I'd pick it up and have something to play with It's got an Olds 455 big block motor in it, rebuilt Holley 600 carb, new water pump, new distributor/wiring, new fan. She's not very pretty to look at right now but that'll change once I get it running well... I'm having trouble getting the engine to start for one, the guy told me it ran fine but I can't get the thing to run for more than a few seconds before it dies. Also, the entire brake system needs to be replaced (master cylinder, lines, shoes, wheel cylinders) as do the transmission fluid lines. The speedo is not hooked up due to it being a different transmission than what was originally in the truck... there is no bottom to the bed, most of the knobs/levers are rusty and temperamental, the wiring is finicky... yeah it's going to be a project. But on the plus side, the motor makes upwards of 330HP stock so it's gonna be a beast once it runs properly. Some redneck who had it before the previous owner got ahold of some spray paint and did some custom two tone on the hood there

Got me a Chevy hot rod

lol it is a big motor. lol Thanks for the comments guys I found out she's been sitting for a few years so the gas is bad and the carb probably needs to be cleaned, still haven't been able to get her running yet. The Caddy needs an Idle Speed Control motor and a new fuel sending unit (about $400 all together with labor and parts) so the Chevy will probably be sitting for a short while longer... bigjon I got those pods done and I will try and make a trip up there soon man

Got me a Chevy hot rod

Yeah, the dude had it running yesterday so I am going to take the plugs out tomorrow and make sure they aren't fouled by fuel, maybe get some starting fluid to help it along. I look at it as getting a sweet deal on a badass big block/tranny, with a free Chevy body attached Most of what you see is cosmetic... Once I get it physically running, me and my buddy plan to sand the truck down, get it in one solid color of primer (black or gray), sandblast the wheels and spray them, lay down a new bed bottom, and replace the windshield (eventually cut the top off and fabricate a removeable soft top ) Other than that, I can sand down the rusty floor and cover it with carpet, and I'm thinking vinyl wrapping on most of the unsightly metal. Since we are going to do most of the labor ourselves that should keep the costs down quite a bit... eventually I'd like to see this bad boy slammed on air bags Just a little different from driving the Lac But now I have Beauty and the Beast

Looking for a good source of chrome wire mesh

Yeah I read that same quote off of the google search I did
  9. I'm thinking of doing a custom grille for my Caddy, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good source for chrome wire mesh (like the aftermarket ones for the Chrysler 300C, or the Jaguar ones)... if I can't find anything guess I'll have to find one made for another car and chop it up... I was envisioning something like this: Thanks!

  12. Hey guys... so I'm thinking of what kind of vinyl I need to order to cover my door pods, but I don't think I'm going to be about to cover them without cutting the vinyl at least once or twice. My problem is that the speaker baffles stick out at a wide angle, and even with the fleece I had to cut it 2 times to eliminate the huge wrinkle in the back. The part that I plan to cut will not be too visible, it will be the part on the back of the speaker pod facing towards the floor (even with the door open, unless someone gets down there and looks). So my question is to anyone who's tackled something like this can you give some advice? Would I be better off taking these to an upholstery shop and having them french stitched or something? Thanks! Here you can see how steep the angle is on these things

    In Pursuit Of A Soundstage

How high up should they be? I haven't tried that. This is a serious consideration I've been making... I'm still thinking that everything sounded much better with rear speakers. I am leaving the comps disconnected until I can wrap my pods, run the wires, and clean up the install a little bit but I could toy around with the idea of keeping the Kenwoods in the back. Cool... I need to replace a bad belt tensioner on my car before I do any serious driving, unless you want to come down here And we can talk about some door pods on the Linc

    In Pursuit Of A Soundstage

*sigh* So those of you who have been following my build know I'm knee-deep in my door pod project. My initial goal was to create a front stage that was pleasing to listen to, had accurate imaging and soundstaging, and produced good volume. So after trying all different combinations of mounting locations, gain adjustments, balance shifts, attenuations, and equalizations, the best solution I came up with was mids in door, crossfiring, and tweets in sail (attenuated away from the driver). It produced no soundstage to speak of but it sounds decent. So after disconnecting my new fronts to finish the pods, I hook up my old Kenwood 2-ways on the rear deck (facing upwards) so I'll have some music while I finish the pods. I play some music to make sure they're working, crawl back and position myself between them and BAM! soundstage! I sit there in amazement for a while hunched between the speakers, listening to Hotel California, and mapping the location of every instrument and vocal cue in the song on the stage with pinpoint accuracy. Even hip-hop I threw on produced a staggeringly real field of listening! I snapped back out of it realizing I was sitting in the back of my car listening to them for a while. I mean, I wish so much I could have this kind of quality up front... maybe I'll try mounting the tweeters on the dash? Is this out of my reach? Have I reach a point of diminishing returns? I'm open for advice. But until then, I shall stay... In Pursuit Of A Soundstage!

Technically yes... but not really... I just positioned myself between them just right to get that "stereo effect"

The mids are in the door crossfiring, and the tweets are in the sail panel. Before anyone says anything, I tried the kicks, and my car has too deep a footwell to allow for accurate imaging there. I tried mounting the tweets by the mids in the door and it sounded decent, but I could definitely tell the music was coming "from below".

x2 those Concave mirrors they sell them at Wal-Mart... you can see dang near everything. Just remember when the car looks like it's 20 feet away in the mirror it's actually about right on your bumper

    What happened here?

I have highlighted above the most likely reasons for your poor output Like they said, not enough power for one, Hifonics amps are usually overrated, and sub being smothered in that box.

I think I may buy another Cadillac

So bigjon you got me thinking about buying another car... Well, I'll tell you all originally with my income tax I planned to get my door fixed and get a new paintjob on my current ride, but now I'm tossing the idea of a second vehicle around... I don't need one by any means, but I'm starting to get nostalgic over my old '88 Brougham that I lost a few years ago... and it would be fun to have two Caddys in the stable What would you all do? Does anyone have multiple vehicles and can give me a ballpark figure of how much extra I might pay to have another car on the liability insurance? Thanks guys Here are some pics of the old car
