    Sound Deadner Showdown Products!!

    FWIW, I ordered some SDS products and posted my impressions on CA-F: http://caraudio-forum.com/forum/index.php?...wdown-products/
  2. So now you're lying about lying. Is that like a double negative? Your dishonestly was illustrated in no uncertain terms. Just have a look at the other posts. Come to think of it, a liar will lie, so what's the point?
  3. If you think that being a proven fibber is a point of pride, then you are. Call me crazy, but liars aren't the folks to trust.
  4. As I addressed your comments directly and on-point, quoting your assertions as a reference, this claim is ridiculous and clearly dishonest. Mind you, I'm not uploading proof by assertion. The post in question is located right above. I'm happy to see at least a single grain of intellectual truth. If you say so, but we all know what your claims are worth. I have no idea what you're talking about, though, an "I know you are, but what am I" is hardly something to be proud of.
  5. Isn't it obvious? It's because I enjoy it.
  6. That's very helpful and educational. You see, the horizontal section of the trunk cage is slightly more than 7.75" above the floor. As I would prefer a downfiring enclosure - mostly due to aesthetics - 3/4" doesn't leave me much room to work with. The drivers are 4.5" deep. As far as audio, I'd much rather go for 3/4" with a double baffle and structural reinforcement, and I will do just that for another project. In this case, the car is the focus; the system is secondary in importance, so I'll most likely opt for 5/8. That'll leave me ~1.5", or just a little more, between the floor and the box. As you mentioned, the ~4lb difference in material isn't enough to lose sleep over. Thank you taking the time to look into this.
  7. Welcome to noobdom. Am I writing in a tongue spoken on another planet? If you can't rephrase your comments in a commonly understood manner, your question is answered. BTW, what's stopping you from doing just that? Let me guess; your points are silly at best. Yet, somehow, you feel the need to keep posting, even though this is seemingly a lame attempt to try to get a piece of your own. Ruts-a-ruck. Again with the strawman argument? Clearly, the record says otherwise, so why spin the facts and not act honestly? <SIGH> At the risk of stating the brutally obvious, posting revolves around communication. As you're unwilling to make your comments easily understood, I'm certainly not willing to spend more time than necessary to go though the text. I'll settle for some quotes. As I encountered while posting here, the forum app will allow for quite a few quotes. Once more, you're acting dishonestly purely for the sake of a confrontation. Unfortunately, you aren't doing all that well.
  8. That's certainly showing respect for the forum members. :-( As you're too lazy to delineate your comments and actually be understood, you'll have to forgive me for not reading any further. If you'd like to reformat your post, so that one doesn't have to struggle to read it, I'll gladly respond.
  9. Interesting. You purposefully spin my question and then begin to argue against your own claim. A strawman at its "best." I asked whether the individual read the whole thread, as his comments did not follow what was already posted. There's a world of difference between that and your disingenuous assertion asking whether one can read. Too, if you can illustrate how I misrepresented a post, please do so. Just saying it is equivalent to blowing smoke. How does he know without listening to the setup in the car, as he as no idea as to the room gain and in-cabin response. Why do I feel like I'm repeating myself? Clearly, you've read my others posts and we still get this gem of an argument. Please illustrate how such a thing is possible. How do you know, seeing that you've just seen a pic of the trunk and have no way of gauging the in-cabin response? Okey-dokey Why paraphrase when the original comment is located just above. To wit: "I haven't used that 8, but every ID sub that I have played with preferred the enclosure on the larger side of their recommendations." 1. As I've posted earlier, I've also played with a variety of ID subs and my opinion differs. Seeing how I have to listen to the system and not him, his point is moot from its inception. 2. Thinking that a totally different driver is similar to those he mentioned is simply ignorant. Given this factor, my point stands. And, a Cocker Spaniel is a dog, not a cat. So what? Could you rephrase that please in a manner that's understood by other humans? This isn't even remotely funny, regardless of the intent. Do I need to salute? I was going to stay out of this, but it's hard to resist. I like to think of myself as a sporting man, but this is like shooting fish in a barrel. Now, do you have any relevant pointers relative to my constraints, in lieu of uploading gibberish? I'm not holding my breath. Are we finished or would you like to go for another round? {edited grammar}
  10. Sorry, folks, but I have to go. Work calls and I've spent way too much time playing around. BJ, I will be in touch. All the best and good luck to all!
  11. Sorry, I missed your question. It's not a racecar; it's a street - legal racecar that I drive as much as possible. As you mentioned, in a (pure) racecar an audio system is ridiculous. FWIW, my road course machine is just a shell. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry, folks, but I have to go. Work calls and I've spent way too much time playing around. BJ, I will be in touch. All the best and good luck to all!
  12. Guys, I'm asking for ideas as to making the box better, given my constraints. I'm not here to fight. If you can't do that, please don't post. My original question has been answered. Unless there's some relevant information to read, there's no reason to stay around. My thanks to BJ and Denim. I apologize if I forgot anyone
  13. (somehow I doubt that you're laughing) If you can explain how to model room gain with nothing to go on other than a pic, you may revolutionize audio as we know it. If you can do the same with in-cabin response, the AES would make you an honorary member. Who the fruck make this guy a member of the tech team? This is Audio101. That's equivalent to asking, "When did you stop beating your wife?" Please illustrate your claiming the enclosure is too small. I'd love to see this. Ahhh...so all 8" subs are the same. Brilliant. So what? 1. As was already illustrated, the enclosure is not too small, regardless of your wishful thinking. 2. <sigh> Are you another poster who didn't take the time to read the thread, yet felt compelled to upload his confrontational comments, regardless. I have reasons for using 8" drivers. Whether you think there may be a "better" route is irrelevant to my needs. Do you actually think that someone like me didn't compare sub weights before making the choice? Yes, there are slightly lighter 8" subs - Quatros come to mind immediately - but I'm more comfortable with the IDs. I'm looking for a light enclosure; I really don't need advice as to the drivers. Clearly, your comment was meant to confront and not help. (Errrr...) Thanks anyway. {edited typo}
  14. I ask questions so people can get answers, most are predecided and want someone to just reiterate what they like even if it is the wrong answer. I won't do that. It's not the questions; it's the firm opinions on configs/gear that you've never heard. That doesn't exactly make one credible. Exactly why I rounded down to 10lbs or 66% of the weight of MDF. It won't be quite that light though. .9 came from ID direct: http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/manuals/iD/ID8D2%20V.pdf .35-.45 is recommended. I used the lower of the two and then added the volume of the two drivers which gets us to .8-.9. I did read that you said .6, but again you ask to have a nice sounding system and for that it means the sub is supposed to play the lows. Putting two of them in that small box won't help with that. ID's median recommendation is .35ft^3 per sub. With Poly, the perceived volume is larger. I'm curious as to how you managed to estimate the lows without knowing the room gain, relative to the specific trunk, the cabin response, etc. Let me help you out; it's impossible. What solution do you have in mind, given my constraints and desires? Denim helped a lot. Let's hear what you've got. {edited format} {I tried editing the format again, but the app wouldn't let me without deleting relevant text. Sorry for the mess}
  15. Sorry to come across that way. It wasn't my intent. It's just that I read dozens of your posts here. Fair enough. What about the 15mm Trupan that BJ will use for the project? Please see above. I don't mean to sound rude, but have you actually read the whole thread? The size of the enclosure, given the space in the trunk and my idea of aesthetics. True. The sub will weigh ~25lbs, hopefully less. <sigh> Must be nice to be a forum "expert." The internal volume of the box will be ~/6ft^3, as I said in a post located inches above yours. How you arrived at .9ft^3 is a mystery. As BJ will use 15mm Trupan - why do I feel like I'm repeating myself - what is your estimation of the weight? The internal volume is per ID's specs. Having built and listened to other ID subs in similarly advised boxes, I'm not doubting the choice. ??? Sorry, is this enclosure for your car? If you don't mind, please allow me to use my own judgment referenced by ~10 years of competitive seat time and ~20 years auo-x'ing. I wasn't born yesterday. PS. unfortunately, as I exceeded the limit of quoted text, I was unable to respond to your comments in full, If you feel that all the basis weren't covered, please let me know.
  16. I would, too. Threads like this are a riot! I went through all the boards on SSA over a period if weeks, It seems like threads/needs like mine are rare. I do have other cars, one of which will house a big, heavy enclosure with an amp to match. The bulk of the system will be installed in a couple of weeks. You may hear from me again. {edited a typo}
  17. Pretty much, yes. I've weighed both. Thankfully, BJ doesn't use MDF. Errr..."HUGE?" It's non-rotational, sprung weight with a low center of gravity. "HUGE" is reducing the weight at the wheel. Let's not talk cars/racing, OK? I truly appreciate your advice. I did consider a single-driver option and decided against it for reasons that are irrelevant at this point. Please see the comments above.
  18. I considered IB. It would be an ideal solution. Here are the problems. I can't use the doors, as I'm not willing to modify the stock speaker mounts relative to their depth. The rear deck would work if I could isolate it, but that would require sealing every hole in the sheetmetal, and I'm also not willing to do that, either. I wish the car was more better suited for IB, as that's what I'd definitely go with. Plus, IB can make for terrific SQ. So, a small box in the trunk is my only option. I really wish it weren't. It would solve a lot of problems. BTW, I spent way too much time designing an IB setup for my home sub - the one built into my house - and was made aware that if I wanted to stay married, that config was out of the question. :-(. I also considered having an enclosure built to fit the rear corner of the trunk and came across another problem, as it wouldn't fit (optimally) with the trunk cage installed, so that idea was out, too. <grin> I may be a pretentious, obnoxious nut, but I'm not crazy. lol Folks, I apologize for being less than receptive to your comments. Really. I posted some pics of the trunk, as well as a Photoshop rendering of the proposed enclosures: 1. Given my constraints, I'd love to hear other ideas. 2. Do you guys think that I'd be better-off with a front-firing setup, or a downfiring config, in terms of pure SQ? The downfiring idea would solve some problems for me, but if it's FAR less than optimal, I'll go in the other direction. Big thanks!
  19. Not to make this into pissing contest. but Ive been involved in audio for almost 30 years, having setup numerous CES high-end systems, not to mention freelaning as a setup pro. And I'm talking about SOTA audio. Clearly, I don't see a point to all of this, as I'm perfectly capable of making my own decisions. All I want to know is if BJ can build a box out of 1/2" material. If he can, I'll place an order. The rest is irrelevant. I'd love to heat from him! BTW, thank you for your input!
  20. I appreciate the replies , guys. Thank you. I mean zero offence when I say that I gave this a lot of thought and I'm very comfortable with my questions. Reducing weight isn't a matter of debate; it's that or nothing. Thank you very much for your comments and for taking the time to upload a message.
