Well...inductance is also a component of transient response. So, high inductance can impede that. However, like I mentioned....from what Mike has stated of the proto, inductance won't be much higher than it's competiton. That's unless the inductance changes from now till the final product.

venting into the carpet is more or less aperiodic and venting into the fender well is more or less IB. i have the RE 6.5 mids. i don't know how they would perform best anyone know? Eh....Venting into the carpet isn't really aperiodic, since with aperiodic you are using the matte to control the impedance and resonance of the system, and it requires some real tuning and such. With the venting into the carpet, you are more or less just reducing the standing waves and giving the midrange frequencies somewhere to go. And I have absolutely no idea how the RE mids perform best Sorry

Well.....it depends. Venting them into the inner fenderwell would be running them IB, keeping them sealed would be, well.....keeping them sealed. Just depends on what your speakers are and which way they will perform optimally. If you are going to keep them sealed, I'd atleast cut a hole in the back and vent them into the carpet....usually clears up the midrange some. And there is a difference between just cutting a hole in the back of the enclosure venting into the carpet, and actually venting them into the fenderwell.

According to Mike, thus far the inductance on the Rl-s will be in the ~2mH range (In this post) which is right in line with every other driver in it's league, and the Q will be in the .5 range, which isn't bad (although it does make it more of a sealed box woofer. But, I'm a sealed box kinda guy, so it doesn't bother me any ) And there we have the problem!!

Would the subs be receiving different amounts of power? Or were you asking about the age old "headroom" question?

I tell you what.....I'm half tempted to pick up a damned 12" Ava just to do a side-by-side comparo between them.....LOL Damnit...I may just give Chad a call Monday

ITS OFFICIAL!! =)

US Amps did make subwoofers. I believe they were called the Bass Mechanic series. They were on the old site, and in a few of my CA&E directory's. How is it that the IS series is already on ebay??: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5782848843&rd=1 What is he going to do to decrease or eliminate unauthorized internet sales?? Also, I (as well as many others) would appreciate an "archive" section on the website, with pics/specs of the older products......just something to bring up... Though it's more of a "customer service" issue than anything. It'd just be nice of him to do it for us..... -
I'm with denim.....hard to take a competitor's comparo as unbiased no matter which way you slice it. If he wants a true comparison, have each company pay a little to be involved and send them off to A2K or the Klippel labs for accurate, unbiased, factual testing. I'd never send my sub to a competitor for testing......independent lab? Absolutely and in a heartbeat. Competitor? Nope. No matter how "unbiased" you try to be, you're always going to be biased if you have a vested interest in the results or the products of the test. That's why people are always overly defensive of products they own; be it subs, amps, cars, their house, etc etc.

With a single SVC 2ohm coil you only have one option; 2ohms. That's it.

I hate seeing tests performed by competing companies....very hard to take them as being factual or unbiased. Send them all to A2K or Klippel for testing; but don't have it done by a competing company. Doesn't matter which company it is, or the history of that company. As much as I like Mike and SS, I'd say that same thing if he wanted to "host" a challenge like this.......

Technically a smaller box would be "sloppier". The larger you go, the more overdamped it becomes (lower Qtc), which tightens up transient response and such. Go too large and you can get what's called "critically overdamped"....which most people wouldn't enjoy the sound of as it would be "dry" and "lifeless".... But...one thing I've noticed is that the Rl-p drivers don't model well in most programs/calculations (atleast the 12's)....you may be better off sticking with SS's recommended range. Interestng Ive always associated a box thats to large as sloppy or muddy. Smaller being tighter more accurate response. Smaller boxes will be perceived as "tighter" because of they have a nice hump in the frequency response in the upper bass/lower midbass. This will give the sound a "punchy" or "tight" sound to the bass.....but it's because of the increased output in that frequency range, and NOT because of actual increased "tightness". It doesn't become muddier or sloppier; what happens is the low frequency output is increased (better low frequency extension) and upper bass output is decreased, so with a larger box you are hearing more TRUE bass (which is slow and "muddy" by nature), rather than enhanced and exaggerated midbass.

So, I arrive home from work to a package sitting on my back porch. Hmm...that's weird, I don't remember ordering anything. Though I do recognize the name and address of the sender as being one Njccbflo What the heck?? LOL......... A little abusive, aren't we?

I could never explain it.....but, basically; instead of having an X and Y chromozone(sp?), their baby has an X, Y and Z chromozone.....

Yeah....it sucks. This isn't his first child; but it is his g/f's first child. And now carrying him for almost 8 mos, and finding out that he isn't going to live........
-
Well, my best friend just got news from the Doc that his unborn son doesn't have a chance at survival (his g/f is ~8mos along). They're assessment is that he will die as soon as he takes in oxygen....and, if by some chance he does live past that, his maximum life expectancy is 1yr, and he'll require feeding/oxygen tubes to even stay alive. They've elected not to have him tubed....so, he'll die within hours of being born (at best). We've been like brothers for over 4 years now, and I've never seen him tear up, or anywhere even close.....but today, he was choking them back as he was telling me. However, since this is a lose-lose situation, they are going to induce labor on day of their choice; and my best friend's birthday is in a week and a half......so they've decided to do it on his birthday.

I was just pointing out that a larger box wouldn't be sloppier

Well....time to head home.....I'm off work for the rest of the day Though I gotta go mow my lawn and whatnot

Just scheduled my vacation from work....last two weeks of July. Don't think we'll be going anywhere...so it should give me some catch-up time on the 'ole stereo.
