They have a pretty decent coil, thermal power handling should be relatively high (~1kw) I'd say. Mechanically they wouldn't need much IB. +/- 500w or so. As for paying....the sooner the better I'm really not sure how to work the payment system.....I'm thinking maybe a nonrefundable downpayment up front when they are ordered, then final payment due when they are done. Just to kind of curb many people from ordering one now and not following through. Sweet deal Ryan. I'll mark you down for atleast 2. As to the cosmetics.....I agree. Nothing fancy, just a solid performing subwoofer. By the way fella's; While I'd like this to run through SSA, if you know any other knowledgeable members of other forums who you think may be interested, please shoot them a PM with a link to this thread. Sort of like the uberwoofer. Home Audio guys looking for a great IB subwoofer would really be ideal here aswell

What more info do you need? Just about everything is up there....LOL

To be honest with you, I don't know right now. As long as it fits the design and budget, and is strong enough to withstand the excursion without massive flex I'm not too partial. Flat cone I would guess would be out of the question, since I would *assume* a design involving flat cones would be more expensive. And keep in mind that, due to being high efficiency, that Mms is pretty darn low for an 18" sub. So weight of the material will be a concern aswell. Cosmetics/appearance I'm not really worried about.....low cost and good performance are numbers 1 & 2 on the list (in no particular order )

And most of their XBL^2 stuff is designed for a small box.......this thing ain't But, I know Dan has mentioned in the past that XBL^2 has been used in Pro Audio drivers, with sensitivities in the 97-98db range. He uses that in his defenses against the comments like you've just mentioned.....most of the "known" XBL^2 drivers are low efficiency. But that's a function of their design and not the topology. Frankly.....for the design I was wanting, XBL^2 just made the most sense IMHO. ASAP. I'd like to be able to tell Adire to get moving on it next week if possible. Sooner I can get it all ordered, sooner it will be done. BTW.....glad you like the design

Heard back from Adire......this is what they said they could do: Fs: 22 Hz Qms: 5.2 Qes: 0.42 Qts: 0.39 Vas: 670 liters Sd: 1180 cm^2 Xmax: 28mm one way SPL: 94.1 dB @ 1W, 1m Re: 3.9 Ohms Le: 1.5 mH BL: 14 N/A Mms: 152 grams Cms: 0.35 mm/N With a price tag of around $250 each for an order of 12 Le came in a *little* high, but .25mH I ain't going to complain about Efficiency was only down .9db from what I was hoping. Damn!! If I can find (atleast) 11 other people, I just might gosh darned do this! Interesting, to say the least. OT: I love the way that they (Dan & Co.) plan drivers. VD would be proud, lol. Though, DW > VD far as i know. sorry. i'm loopy today. sick. uhhh... Even IB, I dont have 23 cu. ft. Do You know VC specs? (guage, dia., winding length, dual/single)? and were those the estimated grpahs above? I might be in for one. I also think that I'll trash the conversations that I've had with Thilo.. that unloving bastard. Actually yes, I do: we'll use our 44 Magnum motor, 44mm thick top plate, XBL^2, 3" diameter voice coil, 180mm diameter magnets. It uses a 4 layer, copper clad aluminum wire, 3" diameter voice coil. 22 AWG wire, with a winding length of 33.5mm. Single 4ohm nominal coil. And yes, the driver isn't built yet....so those would have to be estimated graphs. And yeah....true IB would take some room. Toss one in a trunk and it will probably have some affect on the driver in an acoustic suspension sense......but not much. And yes....so far Adire is great to deal with. Very friendly and extremely prompt response!

I dunno....whatever you want to call it I guess. I was looking around for a high excursion 18" driver with a relatively high efficiency, low inductance, mid Q and low Fs for primarily IB use at a price of around $300 and couldn't find anything that combined all of my criteria. So, I got ahold of Adire to see what they could cook up......and that's what we've come up with so far. You like? No?

Single 4ohm I do believe, since in the e-mail they mention "a" voice coil and never in plural. I'll have to double check though : Of all the things I forget to do, I didn't expect verifying the VC config to be one of them Yeah....single 4ohm coil. Might be able to do dual 2ohm....but I'd prefer to stick with single 4ohm if possible just for simplicity sake. BTW, have some predicted Bl and Kms curves: Adire's Engineering Dept comments: "Nice and flat and extended. Really doesn

I would........but it's the fastest moving forum I know of, and I need something to do all day Hell, that's the only reason I started posting there to begin with.....LOL

For right now......Yup. Sorry

Do they make...?

I had that deck and absolutely loved it! Wish I hadn't sold it, quite honestly. Anyways, that's probably the most affordable one you'll find. And it's essentially equivalent to a "high end" Denon. Sony C90 and Pioneer P9 are probably the two closest that come to mind off hand. -
I'm down, but no XBL^2. I thought about that. But I see a problem with trying to get a low inductance, high excursion, high sensitivity design out of an overhung motor. Underhung maybe, but then you'd need a mondo thick top plate which = $$. XBL^2 combines the best of both....high excursion with reasonable top plate thickness and a shorter coil.

We should get ahold of Adire and have them design us a subwoofer. The SSA Special. What do I want? A high efficiency (~95db/w/m), high excursion (25-28mm), low inductance (<1.25mH), mid Q (.35-.45), moderatley low Fs (<27hz), 18" subwoofer for IB use that'll work off of 500w or less for under $300. Basically a higher excursion IDW18 with a few tweaks. Anybody in with me?!? I haven't played with it to see how "realistic" this woofer is....but it sure sounds fun

And I bet you'll never guess.........I just drove home from work, and all is well again :confizzled: Alt whine gone. Voltage stable.
-
Alt whine = teh sux0r I'm hoping *whatever* happened didn't damage an amp or my HU :( If the whine doesn't go away, that may be what's happened though....... Haven't looked under the hood yet. Still at work
-
But it's so random.....it's not like hitting a bump and causing a wire to jiggle causes it. And no fuses are blowing.....if it were a short, I'd more than likely be popping fuses.

Dang might change the front stage...

If you are running active out of your headunit, then whatever EQ you use would have to have one input for each output from your headunit (for example; 3-way active out of headunit, EQ would need atleast 6 input channels). Only EQ's I know of that have that ability is some of the audiocontrol pieces. -

Whats THe Best Dampening Sound Suppressor???
Impious replied to KeeEnterprises's topic in Advanced Discussion
Simply liked it better. Performance was just as good in terms of deadening. Raammat was just as easy to apply. And the Raammat's aluminum layer didn't tear/rip nearly as easily as the Damplifier's did. The Damplifier's aluminum backing tears and rips extremely easily, Raammat's doesn't. Every time I tried to get the Damplifier into a creavace(sp?) or odd bend the damned aluminum backing would rip and tear. Never had that problem with Raammat. Then factor in that it costs less, and it's really a no-brainer. -

You do not need one per speaker. They are mono EQ's, so you need one per side (i.e. one for the left side, one for the right side), but you do not need one per speaker. ID has a nice xover that will work with them aswell.....but they are fairly pricey for all three pieces (two EQ's and one xover). That DQX will work.....but from reading the manual it doesn't look extremely flexible, as it appears you can not overlap or underlap crossover frequencies. Or you could buy a headunit with all of the processing you'd need....such as the Eclipse 8053 (can be had for under $300 shipped if you look in the right places), Pioneer Premier 860MP, etc etc How much are you looking to spend on processing?
