No one is going to kick you off of the forum unless you become blatantly disrespectful or spam, neither of which have happened. However, part of our function here is to operate with our bullshit detectors on so that the members of the community do not get mislead with poor information. It's not our fault the detectors sound full alarm when pointed in your direction. Perhaps you should review the content and information of your own posts before blaming others for how you feel you're being treated. One simple answer 2 pages ago could have saved you a lot of trouble.

You're avoiding the question posed in post # 28 as linked above. You are pitiful at directly answering a direct question. The music on demo discs is generally drab and atrocious. High quality recordings, yes. But I would be highly skeptical if you tried to claim you drive around listening to Grandma's Hands because you enjoy the music when the references you gave (other than demo discs) were the Eagles, Trans Siberian Orchestra and Five Finger Death Punch. Why I'm even humoring your attempt at sidetracking the conversation so that you could yet again avoid answering the question, I'm not really sure.

He asked for a song off the Eagles album. Not the Focal Demo disc. Here, Post #28 I highly doubt you drive around listening to the Focal Demo disc for a good time. Which is what he asked for. Music you actually listen to, not music from a demo disc specificially chosen because it has low frequency content. I have the IASCA disc with Planet Kryptonite which has an 18hz organ in it.....but that's not music I actually listen to. So you have still yet to answer the question.

    icncrimator warden series

Don't let the impedance fool you. IA simply lists the Re of the coils as the impedance rather than the nominal impedance like most other brands. The 1.4ohm/coil subs are basically dual 2ohm nominal impedance. So if you have two of them, you can wire them together to a nominal .5ohm or 2ohm load. Or if you were purchasing two amplifiers, you could run two 1ohm loads.

There are about a dozen or so SQ competitors who I would actually listen to. The rest....well....SQ competitors are one of the many perpetuators of myths in this hobby. They "trust their ears" more than physics. They accept the argument from authority as being valid. They simply copy what someone else does without an understanding of how or why it may or may not work. If they do stumble upon something "that works", they ascribe the how and why to the wrong factors. There are a handful of actual innovators with excellent knowledge and understanding....the rest just follow along without really knowing why other than someone else has done it or told them to do it. I would trust a non-competitor who can demonstrate logical reasoning, an understanding of the physics and science involved, and who possesses the ability to explain their viewpoint or support their statements with actual data or information long before I'd trust the word of a "SQ competitor" on the simple basis that they are an SQ competitor. You, however, seem to think the later is sufficient evidence that something is true.

His posts haven't had any credibility from the beginning. He spouts off some "fact", when asked to provide some type of support for that "fact" he tries to play the argument from authority card (by way of mentioning, repeatedly, his or others placement at world finals), and when that fails and he is continually asked to provide some type of actual proof to support his original "fact" his only response is to challenge the opposing party to a sound quality competition. This is his M.O. He has done it in multiple threads now. He obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. And if I'm by chance wrong on this assumption, then at minimum the art of explanation completely eludes him. He is one of the unfortunates who mistakenly believe that sound quality competitions trump everything else. It trumps questions. It trumps explanation. It trumps knowledge. It trumps science and physics. To these people, they are right unless you have a SQ competition card to play against him. Because SQ competition is the answer, the explanation.

    Anybody use spectrum?

www.sounddeadenershowdown.com Clean the surface well. Get some of the buytl CLD tiles from the above link. Live happily ever after. CLD to my understanding is more effective than liquid deadener at vibration control. I have a few gallons of spectrum in my vehicle but can't really tell you how effective the Spectrum itself is as there's some mat deadener under it. If I had it to do over again, I'd have skipped the Spectrum as I really only bought it because I got it for cheap 2nd hand and it took forever to apply by brush.
  11. If you purchase the JL from an authorized local dealer, I don't think CS can get much better than having a live person in front of you who can troubleshoot hands on, give face to face advise while your setup is right there in front of them, or having the ability to slide a new product across the counter to you in the off chance you do get a bunk product rather than waiting on RA tags and shipping time. Jacob is certainly a really great guy who treats his customers as they should be treated.....but that isn't something a local dealer can't provide with the added bonus of being face-to-face and potentially hands-on. I think people discount the value a local dealer offers in terms of service and significantly over values "talking directly to the owner" of an (primarily) internet company. As to the original question: Depends on what line of amplifiers you are looking at from JL. Both are good quality products. Sundown is a more generic product from a buildhouse, hence the lower price. JL is a proprietary design with slightly more features built into the higher line of products. The Slash series (and possibly the HD, I don't know for certain) was designed by Bruce MacMillan who also designed such amplifiers as the praised PPI ProMos and Art series. If you don't find the value in the features JL has to offer over the Sundown, go with the Sundown. If you do, go with JL. I highly doubt you'll be disappointed with either.

If you put your EQ to -2 @ 60hz, then the signal shouldn't be down -8 @ 32hz. The signal @ 32hz may be down some, but it will be some amount less than -2 (the adjustment at the center frequency of the EQ). One thing you need to understand however is that there is no EQ on the market that will allow you to adjust individual frequencies. Every EQ has an Q factor. The value of Q tells you how wide of a bandwidth of frequencies will be affected by an adjustment made to the EQ at a given center frequency. The higher the Q, the narrower the bandwidth. So when you make an adjustment at 50 or 60hz, some range of frequencies above and below that frequency (the bandwidth depends on the Q) will be affected by the adjustment (the further from the center frequency, the less the signal is affected). So any EQ won't offer exactly what you want. An adjustment at one frequency will affect frequencies around it.....there's no escaping this fact. A parametric EQ allows you to adjust the Q factor as well as the center frequency of EQ bands. This would allow you a little more control over the effect of the EQ, but parametric EQ's generally have less EQ bands. So while their control is a little better, the give you less bands to play with. A graphic EQ has fixed center frequencies and Q factors, so there is less flexibility but they generally offer more bands. If you want "a lot" of control in the bottom 2 octaves, you'll probably have to go the route of a 1/3 octave graphic EQ. It would give you the most bands to contour the sound. A typical 1/3 octave graphic EQ that begins at 20hz would have center frequencies in the bass region of 20, 25, 31.5, 40, 50, 63 & 80hz. Most parametrics will likely offer only around 2 bands of adjustment within the same 2 octaves. I'd also ask what subwoofer and enclosure you were using? A change in enclosure alignment may help partially solve the issues you are having aswell. Fixing some response issues related to the enclosure would reduce the amount EQ necessary to reach your target response.

    Subwoofer displacement?

Driver Displacement is in the manual listed under the VD in the thiele small parameters. I believe it was listed at .045 VD is not driver displacement. VD is the maximum displacement the cone has when in motion, its calculated from cone area and xmax. Ding Ding Ding! Vd is the amount of air the driver displaces when operating at it's linear excursion limits (linear displacement). What the OP is looking for is physical driver displacement. Unfortunately, there's no "standard" for providing this particular piece of information. If it's a reasonable sized 10" driver, it would be pretty save to assume it's around .05 - .1cuft.
  16. No, you can not use the amplifiers crossover to actively cross the drivers. You don't have enough amplifier channels, and even if you did that crossover doesn't extend high enough to crossover the tweeters. You must use the passive crossovers.

    Bass Shakers

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call them a stupid idea. They operate on the principle that our perception of low frequencies is based as much on tactile sensation (the feeling of vibration/etc in your body) as it is through actually hearing the sound. This is especially true of sound at the very bottom of the audible spectrum and those below the audible spectrum. Below ~20hz you don't even hear the sound, it's all tactile sensation down there. While not a whole lot of music goes this low unless you drive around listening to classical orchestra music, special effects in movies can have a lot of action down there. Reproducing low frequencies at realistic levels in a home or theater can be challenging, especially on a budget and without dedicating a lot of space to a subwoofer system. With a tactile transducer like the Bass Shaker, you can obtain the sensation of low frequency reproduction without requiring a significant and powerful subwoofer system. So while they aren't really necessary for car audio, they can serve a useful purpose in other genres of audio reproduction. How "realistic" they feel would probably be an individual opinion.....but I suppose at the very worst, having an unrealistic representation isn't as bad as none at all.
  18. You would not want to do that primarily because that would completely change the characteristics of the crossover. At minimum the crossover frequencies would change, but if there were other elements to the passive crossover design they would also be rendered useless and not function as intended. In short....there would be a drastic, undesirable change to the performance of the crossover and thus the sound. Depends completely on the flexibility and features of the crossover and how many amplifier channels you have available. And since you gave us absolutely no information about the amplifier, crossover flexibility or features, number of amplifier channels available, etc......we aren't able to answer this question.

    Mileage

1996 Olds 191,000 miles. Have owned it....7.25 years I think? I believe I bought it Dec '02. It had 67K miles on it when I bought it. It has seen better days...hehe. Appearance has definitely deteriorated over the past 7 years.
  20. Only 49,120 miles. That's pretty good for an '02.

Porting a Sealed box (Aero Ports)

Tell him it's a stupid idea and a stupid way to go about doing it. Why does he think it's going to be "better" to have the subs in a poorly designed and inadequate ported enclosure?

Porting a Sealed box (Aero Ports)

Not an ideal ported driver. If you want to go ported, build a new enclosure of appropriate size. Don't port the one you have.....it's too small. Here's the owner's manual: http://www.rockfordf...ated=1083259380

US Congress will offer no extensions......

I believe the bill that did not pass was an "emergency" bill. It would have only extended benefits another month until a "long term" bill is passed. Here is an exert from another article; So while some people may end up screwed in the short term, it does not appear this is a permanent change to unemployment benefits.
